I think you have to pay using some kind of technology that does not provide a receipt. I have no idea how calling the parking company on your mobile telephone and reading out your credit card details to the call handler is supposed to work. So going in person to the Valley by car, to buy extra tickets, cup tickets, tickets for away games or booking travel, or to sort anything else is not now supposed to work. I used to drive in on a quiet midweek, nip out of the car, go to the window where there might be one or two other people, do my transaction, get back in the car and go. The club have seemingly put an end to that. It was my plan to drive to the Valley to buy tickets for the Birmingham City cup game, but getting a £100 fine for doing so seems very harsh.
Maybe it’s supporting The concept of going Green and using public transport 😉🙂
Disincentivise use of cars and all that.
Yes that is possible. However if you’re shopping on the peninsular by using your car because carrying the stuff home by bus would be difficult, then the little diversion to the Valley to buy tickets is out. If people want to travel to the Valley on a quiet midweek by bus or train in order to get tickets, good for them. Personally I think it is a stupid decision, or it is at the very least unclear. Maybe the legendary ‘fans forum’ were consulted. I wouldn’t know because I haven’t seen the notes of that meeting. The solution is of course easy. A great big sign that says 20 minutes parking is free.
If I were to be cynical the signage is deliberate wording so that at least some pay for the first hour when they need not.

If it was pay by app only, you would complain. The company offer a second option of paying through a call, and you still don't like it.

If I could telephone in, and not be put on hold and supply my card number to a human then that is ok. As for apps, have you seen the latest news?

Have you seen something other than the pictures that Henry posted? It isn’t clear and certainly isn’t stated on any of those.
My apologies though for derailing the real reason for this thread.

Swisdom (I think) mentioned he’d spoken to the club on the parking thread.
I've just checked with the club. I believe the signage is misleading and the first hour will be free. It will be clarified. Therefore if you are popping in to the shop or collecting tickets it will not cost you.
For a donation, we'll let you park in the musuem's parking bays for as long as you like.
I usually walk or slow jog the 7.5 miles to the Museum to retain my fitness levels and save the planet but another volunteer pointed out the signs so I took the pics.
Not been discussed at the fans forum as that hasn't met for nine months but let's slag them off anyway, not that I'm a member of the FF but the Supporters Trust are.
As @Stu_of_Kunming has said @Swisdom, who's firm do a lot of the building work at the Valley, clarified that the first hour is free and the signs will be changed.
Would have been better if it had been clear from the start but hey ho.
Street parking is also still free for two hours and is clearly sign posted as such.
I particularly like the fact we are not going to have pitch markings and the relocation of the goals. It will totally bamboozle the opposition. We could be on to a winner this season I reckon.
I am certain that there have been several occasions when we have been allowed to park in the Valley car park when catching the coach from Charlton to an evening away game. The concept being that the coach arrives back in Charlton pretty late, as in the middle of the night. I was able to do it after getting the coach to Walsall and Manchester United during that cup run as two quite recent examples. I presume that now stops.

Why do you need the car park to purchase tickets, just park on the street, loads of parking when I was down there on Wednesday

If street parking during the day is ticket free then fine.
Comments
Tickets are now only available from the shop on non match days so there is no need to use the car park.
that car park is utter carnage on matchday at the best of times
