  • Brook is our only hope.

are we out if we lose?
No but we’ll need to win five of our last six games (RSA, SL, AUS, IND, NED, PAK) to have a decent chance.
And that may well not be enough given our current poor NRR. If we look at all the WC results to date this will be the first upset if it happens and our only win would be against the second worst team in the comp.
  • We've lost this one.

Definitely . Curran and Woakes don't have the capability to put on any kind of partnership.
Or bowl well having watched them today.
  • I am not sure how England have managed it, but have said before we are a top 6 batsman short and a bowler short.
  • 50 (45) for Brook

    134-5 off 25.2
  • So who does Stokes come in for if he's fit for SA? We have to have six bowlers and a keeper, it can't be Malan or Root (356 runs between them) and if Brook wins us this game (or even gets a big score in trying to do so) then that just leaves Bairstow. But that would mean Brook opening.

May as well play him instead of one of the “all rounders”.  Curran’s contribution today has been spectacular
  • Curran’s batting is absolutely woeful these days

Woakes or Curran based on today. We’re too heavy on crap bowlers (in the conditions) and not enough batting.

I’d almost be tempted to drop both of them for Stokes and Moeen. Or Willey who I didn’t realise was in the squad.
  • Christ.
Just got in. Turned it on. Sam Curran out.

  • Curran caught at slip off Nabi for 10 (23)

    138-6 off 27.2
  • Something not right with this camp
  • What is wrong is none of the team has played in the domestic 50 over competition last season and most did not play in the season before.
They played a lot of 16+ over games though.
    What can you expect.
No player from any of the players who made it to the semifinal stages either.
  • Hopefully that's Curran's last game this tournament. Willey deserves his chance and he's been a better batter in recent months.

Stokes if fit solves the problem.
    Trouble is he's not fit.

I would be tempted to as well but leaves us with only one new ball bowler (not that the one we have used has done anything).

I want a six man attack if Willey plays but we really need to extra batsman.

The issue is that, unlike most of the top teams, we don't have five bowlers that we can rely on to bowl 10 overs if required to do so (we had two today that went for 87 off 8 overs between them) and a Stokes as that sixth bowler if required.

If he can bowl then that's the obvious choice. I don't think he can though which does beg the question why he came out of one day retirement in the first place.

I said a couple of months ago he should take time off and have his knee sorted.
He is so important to England in test matches that continuing to pick him for all formats and delaying the op on his knee is madness.

You wouldn't expect that from Woakes before the tournament though would you?  We are asking Livingstone and Curran to bowl 10 between them and bat at 6 and 7, regardless of pitch and match conditions.

We would probably get away with it if it was T20.

The balance of the team is wrong and it was wrong before the wheels fell of our most consistent white ball bowler.  Looking at the make up of the squad he was the one they expected to always play.

    Bowled four balls later

    There you go. Shock horror
  • Woakes and Curran having their own personal battle to be mug of the match.
  • Woakes plays all round one

    160-7

  • If they are bringing back Stokes for the SA game who does he replace ?
  • The run rate is getting out of hand as well now as well as the wickets falling. Brook needs to go full on - might as well lose trying to smash the ball over the boundery instead of scoring five an over .

Shite . We might as well come home now .
  • Brook gone
