  • That's all we need now - Topley limps off after diving for the ball
  • Get the wrong one out 😆
  • At last - Zadran caught at short midwicket off the bowling of Rashid for 28 (48)

    114-1 off 16.4

I'd take any wicket at the moment! At least it potentially opens one end. "Potentially".
  • So, we've had 18 overs to date. Assuming Topley isn't coming back and that Wood and Rashid bowl their full allocation, then we have to find 20 overs from Curran, Woakes and Livingstone
  • What was the thinking behind putting them into bat first?

On a pitch like this surely we should've batted first and looked to pile on 400+.
  • And another to Rashid. He has Rahmat stumped for 3 (8)

    122-2 off 18.4
  • One brings two and all that.

Good news - Topley has risen from the physio room a lot quicker than Lazarus did from the dead
  • Run rate for the last 5 overs is under 4 now.

    Two brings three etc etc.

It opens up both ends as the very next ball, the new batsman, Hashmat sells Gurbaz (80 off 57) down the river and the latter is run out by a mile

That doesn't look as much of a problem as it did 5 minutes ago.
  • Seriously how come the onfield umpire can not just give the run out?
  • Seriously how come the onfield umpire can not just give the run out?
They never do now - the main reason is that, for example, a keeper might have knocked the bails off before receiving the ball with his hand or with his foot hitting the stumps doing so and not referring it would then become an issue

Last 5 overs run rate now at 3.
  • Maybe a good time in hide a couple of quick overs from Root while they are looking to rebuild if you don't want to risk Topley.

But then Woakes comes back on. The only good thing about this performance is that it makes the decision as to whether he plays against South Africa that much easier. Feel sorry for the lad because he is one of the most honest cricketers around

    149-3 off 25
  • Livingstone joins the party as Omarzai is caught by Woakes for 19 (24)

    152-4 off 26

    Genius decision from Buttler.
Gonna roll them over for 200 and knock them off in 17 overs and rack up the NRR
  • Afghanistan batting is always great to watch

Even more so when Rashid Khan comes to the crease though he is only ever there for a good time rather than a long one
  • 167-4 off 30
  • Impressive spell to date from Livingstone 7-0-17-1

  • Hashmat bowled by Root for 14 (36)

    174-5 off 34.1
  • Buttler misses a stumping off Livingstone as the ball lands in his chest
  • Wood scares Nabi to death and the batsman surrenders his wicket in lobbing the ball to Root at point for 9 (15)

    190-6 off 36.1
  • The somewhat unorthodox Rashid Khan produces a classic text book, boundary bound, cover drive to his first ball from Wood
  • And then, a far more, "normal" Rashid Khan opens the face of the bat to send another one to the boundary between backward point and short third man
  • 216-6 off 40
  • Great diving catch from Root on the long on boundary to dismiss Rashid Khan for 23 (22) off the bowling of Adil Rashid

    233-7 off 44.1
