Who the worst Premier League team, Swindon who conceded 100 in 42, Derby, or this Sheffield United team?
Derby won the Play-Offs when they got promoted - The side that wins them, are always favourites for the drop the following year, Sheff Utd got 91-pts last season and finished second in last seasons Championship.
Both them and Burnley should be doing a LOT better than Luton
Most goals conceded in a season (current record is 100) Most goals conceded in a 38 game season (current record is 89) Most goals conceded at home in a season (current record is 46) Worst goal difference in a season (current record is -69) Fewest clean sheets in a season (current record is 3)
I think only a miracle prevents them from breaking at least 3 of those.
The Premiership must remain the dream of every decent EFL club.
However, once there every effort must be made to give it a real go, because that level of humiliation just isn't worth it.
There really should be a minimum points total you have to obtain in order to qualify for your parachute payments. Sheff Utd (and Burnley only to a slightly lessor extent) have been shocking.
15/08/92 saw the 1st games played in the Elite Premier League with 22 teams.
In this the 32nd season, the 3 up is being shown as a nightmare not a dream with Burnley and Sheffield United being out classed most weeks and plucky little Luton playing with spirit but ultimately falling short.
Either going down to 18 teams or just 2 up, 2 down has surely already been considered.
No European breakaway League yet for the Middle eastern state owners- the Dirty Russian money club, now in USA hands or the myriad of Premier sides with Foreign money. Even the Global brand that is Man utd have enlisted the financial help and nous of Jim Ratcliffe,* who is the UK's richest person (most years) in stopping their Manchester rivals leaving them further behind.
When Arsenal can nearly declare at HT to save players for the business end of the season then you know that the Premier League has reached its Pyrrhic victory.
* 25% stake and control of the sporting side of the club.
The PL hasn't wanted competition or promotion/relegation for many years and is finally achieving its wish. I am not sure you can really blame Sheff Utd or Burnley tbh. It is systematic failure or success depending on which side of the coin you are on. With Man City winning it every year and the same teams finishing in almost the same positions it is becoming increasingly like the Monaco Grand Prix. Still, as someone that likes a flutter it makes my hobby easy!
Man utd two nil up by penalties because of clumsy tackles by Everton defenders on the tricky Garnacho. Everton have played decent going forward and have created a couple of chances but can't finish.
City will win the lot again. We laugh at the Scottish Prem but at least they have the Rangers or Celtic question.
I would rather Arsenal, Liverpool or Spurs over the fake big club every once in a while.
I like the fact ManUre fans are up in arms about City buying the title when they've spent just as much as them, the difference being they signed dross in that time or players that flopped badly like Di Maria, Depay and Sancho. In fact net spend, Man City have spent £250m less than United over the past 5 years, Chelsea even more.
I never want Liverpool to win anything, horrible Scouse wankers
I know we talk about this every Sunday, but I’m genuinely at the point where I think I would rather just listen to the crowd noise than Sky’s commentary.
I dont have an issue with just the money. It's more that I am of the age when I think of City as a Sheff Weds / Everton type of club. Who WE beat to the Championship title.
They have had their time, and we all know they are massive FFP cheats as well. I am a sentimental old sod looking back to when football was different. Would take a Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool, Utd (ok maybe not quite them) for a bit.
As it stands - Arsenal will be happiest. And they are on a massive roll.
