Southee beat Crawley repeatedly with his outswing and was finally rewarded when Crawley was snapped up in the slips for 4.

    30-1 after the powerplay.

Need to step on it in the remaining 14 overs but we have wickets in hand...

    :-)

    Scoring rate is absolutely bonkers.

    77/1 off 11.

    Duckett 57 (39).

    Hilarious stuff.

I think the idea is to get to 300 & declare before the floodlights come on layer. Then bowl them out cheaply & so we are batting again tomorrow in daylight.

Let’s not get into it, but I hope this bloke gets the full treatment on debut...

The second test against West Indies on our latest tour started exactly a year ago.

    We’ve come a long way...

Ben Stokes said yesterday he hopes to lose the toss!  Probably joking.
I think winning the toss in a day/night match is a hospital pass.  I don't think he was joking.

England bat first scored 350 in the first 50 overs then skittle them under the lights...

You don't want to start your innings under lights.
    Not a bad guess.

11 overs lost to....???  Not bad light this time as the game is under floodlights.

Playing conditions need to change or it is that no one cares that the paying public didnt see 12.5% of play that they paid for.

The poor sods that have day 4 tickets are going to see 0% of play they paid for.

We've been trying to decide something to do in Birmingham in the likely event that we're halfway up there in the car when the game finishes on day 3 in June!

Seen Root getting a fair bit of stick on social media for his dismissal, probably from the dame people who have been raving about 'Bazball' etc.

You can't win with some people, the whole point is that they are going out to be aggressive, attack the bowlers, do something different and knock them out of their stride etc.  It'll go wrong sometimes, but it's better than 12 months ago when the whole side (Root excepted, admittedly) was terrified of getting out, so they scratched around then got out for 12 off 40 nicking to the slips anyway.

362 runs for twelve wickets.  It's not long ago that this sort of score would be around par for the first two days of a match.

Did you complain when Sasa Ilic saved the 14th penalty at Wembley, because we'd only seen eight goals and 13 penalties by then?

It's got nothing to.do with how many run are scored or number of wickets taken. Simply  a day's cricket is supposed to be 90 overs, apart from when there is a change of innings. When there is rain or bad light which affects the number of overs bowled then these "lost" overs are tried to be made up over the remaining days play.

But this is a day/night Test under lights. Theoretically bad light shouldn't play a part so yesterday the only reason why there was not 90 overs (88 due to change of innings) was because they "ran out of time".....ie, slow over rates. I'm aware teams are docked points due to slow over rates but I believe this series isnt part of the "league" so there is no real deterrent.

But no one cares anymore because England are scoring at more than 5 runs an over.

Might be a different story seeing as NZ should have had another 11 overs last night & could easily have been 5 or 6 down. Instead they get to continue their innings in the better conditions.......and England likely to start batting in the worse conditions.

But hey ho. Seems like the laws of cricket dont count anymore.

It’s a nice day in Mt Maunganui today albeit a strong breeze.  Root and Leach are plugging away but there’s not much in the pitch for spinners.  NZ have avoided the follow on with 5 wickets down and Conway and Blundell look settled even though they’re scoring at just over 3 an over.  Interesting that there was only one maiden in the England innings yesterday.

Blundell is single handedly saving NZ here.
