Matt Taylor doing punditry on leave 1 play off tonight, just saying……
I'm thinking if Taylor was joining Charlton why would he be on the pitch at Port Vale. He'd be preoccupied with other stuff. (Mind you if he agreed to it a few weeks ago, who knows).
If it was him there is no reason for it not to have been announced. I think even if he had had a proper interview, not just a chat, it would have been leaked. All we have heard is Taggy's son spoke to Tissy.
Lots of people at Exeter would know even if he was only given permission to speak to us because the way the club is run.
Is it just the Celtic thing that put people off Lennon? Genuinely interested in the answer.
Yes
Pathetic
Why is it pathetic?
Because it’s Scottish Football. Because it’s sectarian nonsense that belongs in the Middle Ages. Because it has feck all to do with us.
I could go on.
I don't like Celtic in the same way I don't like Palace and Arsenal
I don't like Lennon in the same way I don't like Pardew, Savage or Steve Evans.
Absolutely nothing to do with sectarianism. It's football and everone has their hero's and villains. Lennon and Celtic fall into the latter for me.
I realise this is a silly but is it solely cos he’s Celtic/Arsenal/Palace. Because if we were linked with Arteta surely you’d be alright with that?
Arteta is nothing like Lennon though is he? There's probably plenty of Palace and Arsenal and even Celtic people I wouldn't mind being involved at Charlton if it ever come about, but Lennon ain't one of them because he's Neil Lennon AND he's Celtic.
Nb. I've not got any feeling for any Scotting side, although I was rooting for Ranger last night, but I would've also wanted Hearts, Dundee or Aberdeen etc to win if it were them involved. Not Celtic though and not Arsenal or Palace either. Whether it's domestic or European.
I think……and I did say think…..that a new manager has already been chosen and agreed. Not announced due to them being involved with a club with games still to play. Just a hunch. 🤫
Lennon, Beal, Taylor and JFH are all working. The only unemployed manager there has even been a wif of was/is Warburton and he was working when Jackson got the tin tac.
I don't wish to go against many peoples opinions on here, but could it be, I know this maybe a little whimsical, that we have selected our next manager already and they in turn have handed a player shopping list to TS, but we haven't made an announcement yet due to them being at a club that's still playing? Just a thought.
I think it's more likely that sandgaard has approached managers & shown them our player shopping list & they've made their excuses & fled.
My god this place is both tedious and depressing at times.
Literally nobody knows what terms have been offered to any prospective manager (if any have), what restraints will be placed on that manager, what structure they'll work within.
Yet the hand wringing and incessant bleating is endless, "nobody will come in under this system", "why haven't we got anybody in yet", and on and on and on.
The season hasn't even finished yet! Only 2 clubs have appointed new managers so far, and I think we're all in agreement that one of those may have been a bit hasty. I'd far rather the club takes it's time finding the right appointment, and that the negotiations to get the right deal and system in place take whatever time is needed.
It's like you're all desperate for the worst possible outcome just so you can justify your self flagellation.
Well I don’t think people are “bleating” and your comments presuppose that there is a rationale and considered process and that lessons have been learned. Also it’s a leap of faith to think that the outcome will be the right appointment with the right system.
Mistake after mistake has been made, we have a rump of a squad and if we are to avoid the farce of last years recruitment then it needs to actually start very soon, with a manager in place who is meaningfully involved in the process and allowed to manage. I hate to say it but when a certain Belgian chose players, bossed managers, tried to dictate tactics and put a completely inappropriate person in charge of the club it didn’t work.
What we have seen is an owner who is naive, egotistical to the point of narcissism and massively over confident. He has steadily increased his influence upon recruitment, tactics and style of play. I think the possibility he will be significantly involved in recruitment and the manager will have to play who is chosen is strong - and look how that worked out last season. Plus some of his other initiatives haven’t been really poorly thought through - Fill the Valley is a great example. If I do get kicked in the head and buy another season I won’t go back to the Lower North, which has become really quite unpleasant under this owner.
I think that the possibility that we are in for more of the same is strong and until I see some evidence of lessons being learned and a change of approach then I’m afraid I remain pessimistic.
@ExeterDave the great Fred Binney played for both of our clubs. The best person I ever employed and worked alongside arrived with a first from Exeter University. I like the ground development seen on the telly since my last visit to the proper St James’ Park, what is the away capacity? My understanding is that true Devonians pronounce it ‘Egg-zet-ur’, unlike our terrible Grockle mispronounciation. Looking forward to us playing each other next season, and whatever the management situation I hope you do well.
That's how some of the more thicker-accented say it. I say Exe-eter, but then I don't have a Devonshire accent, I'm Queen's English.
Yeah, but is it jam or cream first on the scones?
I actually do it the Cornish way (with jam first), but only because I find it easier. That's also the way the Queen has it apparently. I'm basically a rubbish Devonian.
if it is Beale we might as well have kept JJ..as he has more experience in division 1
Been coaching at a higher level and no disrespect to Jackson, but has a bigger reputation as I understand it among the football community. I would say it’s a step up from Jackson if we land him.
The whole set up and whether or not he gets final say on recruitment will be key. Hopefully we can have one or two promising young Villa players as well on loan, and he may be able to expand our network of available signings through having played against other Premier League teams.
I think Gallen’s last few signings haven’t been that good and his network may be a little bit stretched. Having Beale could really change the approach - hopefully
I’m also hoping he’ll come in and look at what we’ve got and the likes of Jayisemi and Gilbey will see less game time next season. I would imagine had Jackson stayed he would’ve persisted with both of them

I will be absolutely delighted to be proven wrong

What a great achievement
Just need Warburton to complete the set.
