I dont know much about Ben Chorley but I would be encouraged greatly if we hired a DOF.
Forget the job titles Chorley and Ganer were a pair. Probably more so than the coaches. Would be, at least, whelmed if we got both. Verging in the over.
Having to wait for the owner to come over in order to appoint a manager is just bizarre. Imagine if Man Utd held off on naming Ten Hag because they had to wait for the Glazers to get through baggage reclaim at Manchester airport. Strange behaviour.
But there are people hereabouts who think he should have waited to come over to give JJ the sack in person...
So now we are maybe going for the whole Swindon set up, DoF, Manager, and two coaches, this whole thing is getting very complicated, if it is so, it is little wonder there is a delay in making any new announcements, anyway WIOTOS eh...
If (and a big if it is) Chorley is coming to us, then would that make TS's statement about it not all being done yet and interviews still ongoing true?
And another big if, if we are trying to get the pair, does Chorley's resignation today mean that the deal is now done and an announcement is imminent (as in within the next couple of days)
Knowing our luck it's probably completely unrelated but getting in both the DoF and the manager that put together a decent team at short notice would be a great move. It would also seemingly limit the amount of universe-level control that Martin apparently has, which would be hilarious given the months of wailing on here about it. You'd imagine if Gallen were also staying then we'd be looking at one who idenitifies the correct players and one who handles the negotiations from there, which would be good. It would also explain the delay in making the announcement. Interesting, possibly exciting stuff. (cue: Welcome Steve Evans)
Jumping the gun but if this is linked and we get a director
of football with experience in the roll and who the manager trusts that would be
a very good step in the right direction and show TS is learning to appoint
football people. Fingers crossed and it’s not a coincidence.
In the NFL, when a new head coach is hired and the organisation wants a bit of a philosophical change, the new head coach will often be paired with a new general manager (DoF equivalent but with much more responsibility) of their choosing.
Now, it’s obviously too easy to see the Chorley news and put two and two together, but there may be something in it if our American-based owner wants to pair a new head coach with a director of football he’s comfortable with.

Though three directors covering negotiations, analytics, recruitment and appointing head coaches feels a bit much?
Here’s what the Swindon OS said when they were appointed last year, seems Chorley ran recruitment and it was up to him appoint the head coach:

EDIT....he's from Sidcup!
Edit: I see Gallen is the current DOF. Must admit I thought he had another role.
all absolutely gutted
i wonder…..
Chorley brought Garner to Swindon I believe.
TS maybe really wants the pair which is why the process hasn’t been completed.

Chorley may have decided to leave for many reasons not connected to Charlton or he and Garner could be off to QPR or Blackburn.

Just googled this and it says that Chorley is less than 30 mins drive from Blackburn so looks like he's on his way there.
