Ben Garner wouldn't leave Swindon without a guarantee that he has a manager's job to go to. If he is caught in limbo then a major misunderstanding has taken place.
It's not possible to mix up Ben from Kent Manager and Ben from Kent DOF at Swindon 🤔
I remember Mr Vinegar the renowned ice hockey coach was going to take over at Cafc as Manager and Katie Meire said in a face off call that you have to change your mind to Duchâtelet as the Puck will stop with me. Roland accepted he was skating on thin ice and Nabby Vinegar was left on the shelf and we moved on to the next target.
Wait so we’ve gone from underwhelmed and it’s a shambles that Garner could potentially be appointed to excited that he might come in with a whole host of his back room team?
Having to wait for the owner to come over in order to appoint a manager is just bizarre. Imagine if Man Utd held off on naming Ten Hag because they had to wait for the Glazers to get through baggage reclaim at Manchester airport. Strange behaviour.
But there are people hereabouts who think he should have waited to come over to give JJ the sack in person...
Minor point. He was already here. He went back and then did it, so more accurately I suspect people think he should have done it before he left.
- TS interviewed Garner and agreed compo with Swindon - Another manager potentially higher up on his list is now interested (maybe Beale) - TS wants to take his time to see if he can get someone better than Garner - Swindon want to force the issue and leak it to the press (Cawley)
We may very well still get Garner who I don't think would be a bad choice.
My take on it is that we have already got Garner (and Richard Cawley is correct), but TS is playing silly buggers and wants to announce it when in the UK and have a few photo opportunities for his social media. Of course, as soon as he announces it is Garner, TS is going to look like a right tit having denied it more times than Judas.
Beale was never a realistic prospect - too expensive and would never drop to the third division.
Why would Beale not drop down to this league when it's rumoured that he was interviews pre adkins and then again pre Jackson?
Ahead of that, finding the right manager to take our men’s first team forward is our number one priority at this time. We have conducted interviews with a number of candidates and have been really pleased with the quality of interested individuals applying for the role.
Knowing our luck it's probably completely unrelated but getting in both the DoF and the manager that put together a decent team at short notice would be a great move. It would also seemingly limit the amount of universe-level control that Martin apparently has, which would be hilarious given the months of wailing on here about it. You'd imagine if Gallen were also staying then we'd be looking at one who idenitifies the correct players and one who handles the negotiations from there, which would be good. It would also explain the delay in making the announcement. Interesting, possibly exciting stuff. (cue: Welcome Steve Evans)
Though three directors covering negotiations, analytics, recruitment and appointing head coaches feels a bit much?
Here’s what the Swindon OS said when they were appointed last year, seems Chorley ran recruitment and it was up to him appoint the head coach:

All just titles in the end. It did start to feel a bit like Gallen's pool of players was running dry recently so having someone to identify players via data, someone to use that data to find good players who fit the agreed style - and likely to inform what the data is assessing in the first place - and then someone to negotiate (Sandgaard calls Gallen the best negotiator he's ever seen. Likely the usual hyperbole from him but still, it sounds like Gallen is great at sealing these deals) sounds like a good plan. No-one overworked, everyone with a niche that they can put their full focus into. Sounds almost like it's a well thought out plan, which is going to make it hurt even more when it's all just coincidence!
He’s only 39 himself but they played in the style TS wants (attacking but possession based) and clearly got things right in other areas, for example maximising the minutes they could get from Williams.
Yeah, the Swindon fans on that podcast recorded when the BG news broke seemed to think BG going wasn't that big deal as they had Chorley in place. Interesting developments.
Played in the same Primary school team (Wyborne, New Eltham) as my youngest lad. Was head and shoulders the best player. Went to Arsenal academy and had a decent league career.
TS approaches Swindon to speak to Garner and so comes into contact with Chorley. He is impressed with him and the job he does so decides to get a double deal. He's already done the deal with BG but the BC deal has taken a big longer. Championship here we come.
Pessimist guess
Garner has turned down the deal and if off to another club while Chorley is leaving for an unconnected reason, we still haven't got a manager and are way behind the game again. League Two here we come.

They could call it Chorley FM

So just pick one!
If it all all comes off a clean sweep and fresh start with a coaching team all known t each other with clear aligned goals is only a good thing
One mentioned Chorley lead sports science as well as recruiting (and presumably other areas).

TS likes the sound of it and basically takes all the important pieces to create his own system here.
What it means for Gallen/Coaching staff already here in the coming months will be interesting.
Optimist guess
