I think Tyreece Simpson will be the striker we sign….and could be the player who Garner mentioned he had been chasing / working on for a long time. Had a big impact at Swindon last year but hasn’t even featured on the bench for Ipswich this season.
Think him and JRS could be the two we are close on.
Those 2 would be amazing signings. Not sure if Simpson will happen though, can’t see TS spending a fee on a striker when he’s already spent 800k on that position in the last year
I can see TS spending a fee. Striker is the one position in any team you really do get what you pay for and nearly all strikers under contract will command a fee.
Paul Benson cost us a fee, even Josh Davison apparently went for a fee. And anyone out of contract has surely been snapped up by now.
That said while I can see a fee being paid for the right player I'd still say a loan is the most likely option.

Unless it's a "frozen out" older championship player or a 1st time loan kid I can't see why anyone would want to loan us a striker.
The only way I can see us getting a striker significantly better/more suited than Stockley is buying one or getting, and keeping Aneke fit. I can't see either happening.
We will end up playing like Brazil in 82, with our very own Serginho. That's one for the kids!
Wollacott it is the best of the keepers we have on the books. If he is absent during the World Cup, Harness is no worse than Mac in my opinion. It might help everybody if Mac moves on, a modest fee would be a welcome bonus.
Think that it is too early for Harness. I wasn't impressed with him against Ipswich. He needs a loan at National League level.
Will we able to have a temporary loan keeper given the unique circumstances?
I feel sure a Premiership club would be happy to loan us a keeper knowing that they would get at least two league matches as well as FA Cup and JPT first team games.
When does the emergency loan criteria for a keeper kick in?
If MacGillivray goes how many "senior" keepers would we have during the WC?
None, 1 or more? I don't really know what the definition is.
On second thoughts maybe we could get a normal loan. They would play a significant number of games. It will be interesting to see who plays Tuesday. If McG is off then we probably don't want him to be Cup tied.

I don't think anyone signing MacGillivray will have aspirations in the League Cup....

If Wollacott leaves for the WC during November and MacGillivray is no longer here, we could apply for an emergency loan goalkeeper to cover his absence for the month.
I’m not sure how much interest there’d be in McKirdy on here if he’d been playing for say Northampton last season.
Real danger of him being another one season wonder IMO. Scored lots of goals in League Two last season but what else does he bring to the table that makes people think he’ll carry that form over to this season?

Agreed. Couldn't care less if we signed him or not tbh. Seems like he'd be a squad player at most.

It's true what you say but the counter argument would presumably be that it was Garner specifically who got that super season out of him and using the same system, so playing the same system under the same manager (with theoretically better players around him) COULD mean he replicates the same kind of form.
It would be a gamble not a given thing for sure but honestly the chances are there is no proven 100% guaranteed success among our options.

Transfers are always a gamble you never know how things will work out do you. Imo our 2 best signings lately have been CBT & Dobson, neither of them came to us with glowing references did they. I would argue that the ones that did arrive being hailed by most turned out flops

Sorry to be a killjoy, but who thinks Ghana will still be in the World Cup up to the final, so will he be away for a long time?
People are worrying about nothing really.
World cup starts on 22 November, i think players have to go 1 week before. Ghana are in a group with Portugal and Uruguay so will likely be knocked out and Wollacott will be home by the first weekend in December.
In that time we only play 2 league games (Port Vale away on 19 Nov and Cheltenham home on 3 Dec). The week in between is the 2nd round of the FA Cup.

I would add Clare to that as well.
Yes he has also been great but he was doing ok before he came to us wasnt he. Dobbo was a failure at Sunderland (on the train after our game with them their fans couldn't believe it was the same player they had) and CBT was setting the world alight at Tranmere

Billy Sharpe is the only player that has scored 20, or more, League 1 goals twice in the last decade.
This fella can definitely make a splash!
