Awful game - didn't like Cambridge tactics. Ref was terrible - missed a clear penalty and didn't seem bothered about the wrestling matches that were going on.
We probably would have lost this game earlier in the season - Washington our Motm.
Leko's final ball and decision making continues to frustrate.
Tuesday was pretty but hard working football. Today was a battle and we came out on top.
The referee was an absolute embarrassment, game got totally out of hand due to his total incompetence at recognising either a foul or serious foul play.
Really enjoyed the grit, fight and pressing from Charlton. Cambridge got stuck in but rolled round when receiving any challenge back. Then they tried to get that player booked by overeacting. Horrible. Referee obliged the behaviour with bookings. Its was really surprising that no one was sent off with the amount of bookings dished out. Charlton stood up and the moments of quality in the final third really made a difference. That first Washington goal was an excellent finish and great move. Charlton always looked capable of a second and the Washington 2nd from Souare getting forward secured the win.
McGillivray made a couple of good stops. Cambridge may feel hard done by, but I have no sympathy from them for their play acting and bad grace. Apparently scored in 24 consecutive away games. Not today. Charlton may have had rode their luck in places but worked hard and deserved it. Crowd played their part too, getting behind the team at crucial points. Midfield did look a bit tired in places. Winning games like these are crucial in a season. Top half now and with hard work, quality and application, Charlton will continue to rise.
You cant win pretty every game. I thought we was really impressive today, they came with a gameplan to try and rough us up and bully us but we got 3 points by competing on every level.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say we will finish the season on 89 pts let's see where that leaves us
If there was anyone potentially confused as to why we missed Stockley and Pearce (the latter of all people) against Morecambe and Shrewsbury, then that performance was exactly why!!
Great effort from everyone today; Famewo picked up in the second half after having a torrid first - All three Centre-Backs coped excellently after they all had to worry about being on a booking.
We were a little less fluid today compared with the Ipswich game, yet as someone said before the game; Cambridge were always going to need to be a little bit more gritty and hard working, as talent alone wouldnt have earnt them a result today - That said I was disappointed with the referee, thought he had an excellent start to the game, before deciding to dish out his Christmas Cards early...
I mean if Washington's was 100% a booking then nearly every foul would be that!! - Connor though continued to show the proper Charlton spirit - Deserved those two goals, not just for his performance tonight, but for his display against Ipswich as well
Absolutely no question between him and Gilbey for Man of the Match today @Dazzler21... It was Alex!!
Made hard work of it but dug in and got what we deserved. Cambridge were fairly.well organised but apart from a few good passages didn't really trouble us. Struggling to kill these teams off early could be our undoing further down the line. Love Purrington but really thought we needed someone with an attacking nature in that role today. Mention for Sean Clare. He just keeps getting better in that right hand slot. Think we'll be lucky to keep hold of him!
I was looking at Purrington thinking we needed more attacking wise from that position (attacking isn't just getting on the end of things) ..but was then absolutely terrified every time Souare became involved in play
Lee really battled and put a shift in. He adds a lot of composure to our play that I wouldn't begin to underestimate. Some excellent pieces of skill in the 2nd half too. I really enjoyed watching him today. In fact he wasn't happy with Washy not putting him through when free for the 1on1 chance for hattrick. He feels a Charlton player.

Same for me - dreadful player - out of position when they broke through for the one on one - and then git gets forward and plants a lovely cross which resulted in 2nd goal 😂😂
glad we've got a weeks rest now as that was a tired, scrappy performance after Tuesday. But another good result. If Oxford win their game in hand, we're still 13 points behind 5th place and the proper play off mixer (as opposed to praying we can scrape in to the single last spot) which is a bit depressing. One game at a time though.
Big shout out for George Dobson and Sean Claire who I thought were both excellent today and should continue to be regular starters.Conor Washington is just getting better and better. I thought Cambridge played better than Ipswich especially up front So credit to the team for an excellent result.
“It was a bit scrappy, not as pretty as I would like, probably not as pretty as Tuesday night but the outcome is the same - a win’s a win. A 2-0 win with a clean sheet so I’m really pleased."

Two good crosses from Souare. One led to the goal.
I think teams are maybe thinking if they try and out football us they are onto a loser, so instead are roughing us up and hoping we’re not willing to battle. Well welcome to CAFC jacko style, good play when possible, unbelievable work rate and absolute fight and guts. It’s great winning with style and panache, but sometimes coming out on top after a real battle is very satisfying. There is no way I’m prepared to emphasise any negatives when we’ve got the win and keeping our hopes alive. Well done the lads and JJ, keep it going it’s really fun at Charlton again!!!!
Just been looking at the recent form in Lge 1 - Gillingham are shocking, total free fall, and have worst form of all - BUT very close behind them in terms of poor form is Plymouth !!!
This league really is a free for all (apart from Rotherham IMO)

Credit to our boys for getting the job done.
Now Thomas do what you need to do now!

In reality, totally different game mainly because Cambridge are a well organised, hard working side not afraid to play or to make a fight of it.
We weren't as slick as midweek because of that and maybe we were tired but we took our chances and they didn't.
Macca may not come very often for crosses but he's a great shot stopper.
And Conor Washington. What a player. How many goals is that now and at crucial points in games.
