I actually thought it was a very very good game. Sure, we weren’t up to our best. Cambridge were dangerous and it was tense. Not polished, but a battle. Loved it!
I agree with that.
I enjoyed it, particularly because we won. I said to my old man on the way out that winning a battle like that when we're not at our best, where we could easily have lost, says a lot more about the qualities and character of the players and team than winning a game when we're firing on all cylinders.
Also, I actually thought Cambridge looked like a fairly decent team who knocked it about well at times. Anyone comparing that team to the one from Beck's days couldn't have actually seen the Beck team play. They had a long throw and the centre forward put himself about a bit, but that's where the similarities ended.

All in all a great 3 points.
That's how I saw it. I actually thought it was a really good match
Scrappy in places, typical L1 game. Ref all over the place and the East Stand Lino was Kettle in disguise! Cambridge finishing was woeful, and MacG kept us in it. All that said to grind out a win is what it takes to move up the league.
To the free-loaders, take your seats a 2.50pm NOT 3.05, and start f"'king about looking at seat numbers with hot dogs chips and a coffee in your hands. Don't bring kids who are bored stiff after 15mins, and too the large lady in the green anorak in B block row E try on to drop your guts every 5 mins! YOU STUNK!
Am I alone in finding the Elliott Lee chant utterly weird - he’s playing in a team in Div 3 of the English Football League - I mean, seriously, the white Pele ???
Aye aye aye aye Charlie is better then Yashin, Matt Tees is better than Eusebio & Millwall are in for a thrashing. None of that is true didn't stop us singing it
I remember it as:
we all agree wright is better than yashin bonds is better than eusebio and we’re gonna give millwall a thrashing
Out of all of that, we're gonna give millwall a thrashing has got to be the least believable
Good win. Wasn’t easy, and Cambridge might see themselves hard done by as a result of not putting the ball in the net. They definitely had their chances.
Had a great Xmas session in the Royal Oak and we were pleasantly surprised to be joined by Mr and Mrs Sandgaard who stayed right up until closing time. Both very approachable and friendly.
Was an honour to meet the man himself and personally thank him for what he’s done for the club.
No problem with Cambridge for me. The game was a tough test for both teams but today Washington had a bit more than Smith. I thought the referee was poor all round, what did Washington get booked for? Anyway if we can win a third of our remaining games we should be safe from relegation.

PS TOMMY GIVE JACKO THE JOB!!!!!
I think you're find the correct term is "woman".
Apparently.
I got ripped to shreds by a mentor on a placement in the late 90's for referring to a woman I'd visited as a 'lady'. The mentor pulled me up on it in front of the whole office and I've never, repeat never used lady again. Got the lecture about social class etc and that was me told.
Back on topic, hard fought win. All worked hard, Lee again off the pace, Soare better in cameo. Stockley had his face grabbed and had to just laugh at the ref who from the TV angle was 10 yards away looking directly at them. Not a classic, but who cares when the beans are counted in May.
3 lovely points and the win-on-a-Saturday feeling that gives me that warm Ready Brek glow until the next game.
Thomas is just larking about now. Never in a million years has he got anyone else in mind. Not unless he wants a guitar shoved up his arse!
Am I alone in finding the Elliott Lee chant utterly weird - he’s playing in a team in Div 3 of the English Football League - I mean, seriously, the white Pele ???
Can’t see the problem with a bit of hero worship, up there with ‘Charlie is better than Yashin and Matt Tees is better than Eusebio’ from years gone by 😉
"And we're gonna give you a thrashin" Sincere thanks for the memories. And I wholeheartedly agree. Where's the harm?
I was looking at Purrington thinking we needed more attacking wise from that position (attacking isn't just getting on the end of things) ..but was then absolutely terrified every time Souare became involved in play
I think it was confidence with Soare. His first 10 minutes was all sideways and backwards which on a couple of occasions put us in trouble. However, his confidence grew and the first time he did go down the wing to the by line and whipped a cross in it was the catalyst for our second goal.
After that he played with a lot more confidence. Definitely think there's a player in there and hopefully Jacko and the lads will help instil the self belief.
Agree. And I think Johnnie Jackson telling him to get forward in support helped as well. At least he responded. Two really good runs and crosses after that. One of them resulted in our clincher.
Am I alone in finding the Elliott Lee chant utterly weird - he’s playing in a team in Div 3 of the English Football League - I mean, seriously, the white Pele ???
Yeah you are
Really ???
It’s a stupid chant
I have no problem in chanting about the players we like, but comparing Elliott Lee to Pele (no offence to Elliott Lee BTW) is utterly ludicrous
Anyway, leave it there - you clearly are short of many many brain cells ….
You are clearly short of many humour capabilities. We are having fun with our players. Get over your big self.
We all agree Charlie is better than Yashin Saunders is better than Eusebio And we're gonna give you a thrashin'/And xxxx xxxx are in for a thrashin'
The song first appeared after WC66, hence the reference to two of the foreign stars of that tournament.
Ron also had his own song, the tune being the intro to My Old Man's a Dustman Now here's a little story To tell it is a must About an unsung hero Who scores his goals with lust.
Some people talk of Gilzean Others talk of Law Our old Ron don't earn much All he does is score.
Saunders is the king, Saunders is the king E i addio, Saunders is the king
Charlie's own song was to the tune of Silent Night Charlie Wright Charlie Wright Plays it cool, plays it right Forwards' hopes he's always dashin' While we've got Charlie you can stick your Yashin Well done Charlie Wright Good old Charlie Wright.
Thought that was an awful game of football. Not helped by watching it alone in the dark in the early hours of the morning with a bottle of cheap whiskey for company.
Cambridge looked quite good. They had lots of space in front of of our back 3 and managed to nullify our wing backs for most of the game. We looked ragged and leggy - too eager to pump it forward aimlessly rather than play it to feet.
In the longer term, it raises the question of whether we can play with Jacko-style super intensity, twice a week with the same starting eleven?
Would like to see the injured cetre backs fit again so Clare can rotate with Dobson or Gilbey, or Lee who is looking more tired and less influential.
Hopefully we will be fully rested by next week-end.
Three points but it could have been zero if not for the striker who cannot finish.
Horrible game, which felt sweet at the final whistle.
I thought Cambridge had five yellows in the first half, can’t understand how they ended up with four. As Bowyer might say, they weren’t ‘men’, they were whiners.
We misplaced more passes in the first fifteen minutes than we did in the whole of the Ipswich match.
Soure needs minutes to get his form back. He can certainly cross the ball! Very happy for Connor. Three points in the bag, have a nice rest lads.
Scrappy game but we deserved the win. How come we regularly seem to get rubbish refs? And while having a moan, Cambridge should be embarrassed by their play-acting.
Plenty on the positive side, though, the best being the performance of Conor Washington. Three more points and play-offs a definite possibility.
I seem to be in the minority here,I really enjoyed the game, plenty of good football from both teams,9 yellows, plenty of crunches, niggles, loved watching Pearce taking every opportunity to give someone a dig.Trying to knock Famewo off the ball is a waste of time, cant be done, but loved some of their efforts trying to do so,where the guy usually finished on his arse.Thought the ref was ok other than allowing Stockleys shirt to be removed at every challenge, the lino could have helped out a bit in that one.The Beck side had one plan, get a throw in near the corner flag and lob it in,pity, in Dublin and Claridge they had good players,at least this side did play a bit. There will be plenty of games like this, this was a cert defeat under Adkins, this team wont buckle under Jackson.
I actually thought it was a very very good game. Sure, we weren’t up to our best. Cambridge were dangerous and it was tense. Not polished, but a battle. Loved it!

I'm not normally a yes man but I agree with the comments that Cambridge were a dangerous side and created 5 really good chances; Tuesday they scored 5, yesterday they couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo.
They are a proper League 1 side who battle*, and were 75% better that the Ipswich team on Tuesday who rolled over. They set up well and attempted to negate our wing backs by forcing them back.
So refreshing to see a Cafc side not retreat to their own area and invite the opposition on.
Fantastic 3 wins in a week; Quality against Ipswich and hard working performances in the cup and again against the over achieving Cambridge.
Johnnie Jackson has transformed this club on and off the field since Sunderland away.
* Thought the lad should've seen red for the smash on Pearce.
Really enjoyed the game too. Cambridge fans made some good noise. It felt like an evening game.
Never knew if we'd win the game or wilt, but we showed character to score a second. I was surprised post match, logging into here and seeing such flat comments. I do think we have a very varied fan base in terms of experience, age, understanding of game, expectation for excitement.
I agree with those commenting that Cambridge were better than Ipswich on Tuesday. Their centre backs did well to control Stockley, Digby in midfield was similar in style to Dobbo but with the size to go eyeball to eyeball with Jayden, the blond lad in midfield was pacey and skilful (that got Leko booked for blocking him) and their two strikers were mobile and dangerous. Some talent there that might well have been noted by Jacko and Gallen.
Final thought - Stockley is worryingly short tempered. For all the posh boy labrador persona he is far too easy to goad into a confrontation. He was lucky not to get a red card yesterday which might have cost us the win and, more importantly, led to a further 3 match suspension. With Josh Davison or young Mason Burstow the only remotely possible alternatives in Stockley's role that could kill off any play off hopes. He needs a bollocking and telling to calm down.
Am I alone in finding the Elliott Lee chant utterly weird - he’s playing in a team in Div 3 of the English Football League - I mean, seriously, the white Pele ???

Not sure anyone who thinks football chants are to be taken literally, can question other people's brain cells?
Hold on are you suggesting that the gentleman saying goodbye to his 🐎 never actually uttered those words.
Gutted couldn’t make the game , was never due to go but was trying to manipulate the kids and failed miserably . Tickets for the Muppets Christmas Carol at the Royal Albert Hall , were swerved as Peter Kay had a Christmas paintball thing with his footy team , he then went ill during the week , so I was angling for you’ll be ok to go Charlton …. Then mrs spins it round and says she’ll stay at home with him and fucking petrol head had a moan up cos he’d miss F1 practise or some shit and he got out of it ffs and I can go to see the fucking Muppet shit cos all my sisters niece and nephews were going , took the LFT in the morning hoping for a reprieve and hopefully I could stay home and watch on Charlton TV …no I was clear ffs fell asleep during the first half of muppet guff and woke as the phone vibrated on my bits with news of a Connor Washington goal … lovely jubbly .. second goal came as we were traipsing back to the tube station in the pissing rain ….took the edge off my claustrophobicness or fear of being near so many fucking people on the underground it was fucking rammed ….
Fish and chips picked up and a line can of coke to celebrate ….
The problem with the Cafc fan base is we could finish the season in 7th place and the Golfie clones will say we have failed under JJ !
We were 22nd and devoid of team spirit, Spunk, organisation, nous and were 11 individuals under the "we wandered lonely as a cloud" Nigel Adkins who became abstract in his comments to fans/critics this season. He would be loved at the poetry Cafc (covent garden) where I mainly performed until Covid reared its ugly head.
The polar opposite now, and we win ugly or beautiful but the Cafc fans at the ground are happy either way.
Cambridge are capable of playing decent football and whilst it pisses me off when referees are inconsistent in games like this he at least didn't send anyone off when I thought their number 9 was going off and then Stockley for making to put the Chatham kiss on their number 5. They came to niggle, to rough up, to win bookings and whilst we didn't go down to that level we dealt with it and granted with a touch of luck for their bad finishing and McGilveray making some decent stops we deserved that win.
Pearce is made for games like that and none of our players hid which tells me a lot about the character now. Squad needs a bit if a shake in January, Gunter, Arter, Watson, Kirk and Inniss can all be moved on to make space for a centre half and a centre forward, and I'd be tempted to put in a bid for Mandron at Crewe as competition and cover for Stockley or Oliver from Gillingham.
As far as centre halves go, Tucker at Gillingham is class and Scarr at Plymouth is decent too, had a shaky game against us but thats down to how little time we gave him with the ball and his teammates not showing quickly enough.
Today some standout performances from Dobson, Pearce, Famewo, Washington, Stockley, Lee and Gilbey but the whole team worked together and backed each other up. Proud of them
Another day of travelling for me, another win and the JJ revolution goes on. Due to work I cant make any midweek games, so watched Ipswich on CATV, which was an excellent game, yesterday's game didn't live up to that, but being in the crowd was just magnificent! Had the pleasure of meeting up with @Redrobo, @TCE and @DaveStorry amongst others. Cambridge were a 'niggly' team but did play some good stuff and we have MacG to thank for keeping a clean sheet. Washington is turning into a great main strikers foil and must be playing some of his best football in years! I also have to say, that Dobson, Lee, Purrington and Gilbey are a solid set of players and working like trojans to play this high press game. Pearce has been a revelation since he has come back into the side and no-one is ever going to knock Famewo off the ball, Clare playing in a 3 is also shinning! Left home at 8.45 am walked back in around 9 pm, but 12 hours well spent!! Play-offs are still an outside bet in my opinion.
Just throwing it out there, but people would be going mental at Albie Morgan for the last two Rob Lee's sons performances.
Not saying he's bad, just he needs a rest and a convincing competitor in that role.
Come on back soon JFC.
The difference being the Lee has actually performed very well in more than 1 game this season.
Quite correct that he has been consistently good whereas Morgan has struggled to find any kind of form and his progression since Bow went has evidently stunted and actually regressed.
Doesn't change the fact that Lee has looked tired last few games and really could do with a decent competitor.
Well you have your reasoning then, exactly why Lee shouldn't be getting pelters is because he has shown what he can do but is likely tired from the minutes he has played. Morgan on the other hand used up all his available excuses a long time ago.
I'm saying Lee needs a decent competitor. I do not think Albie is that guy and have not suggested recently that he is.
We have been a million times better with Lee in the side and it's definitely time we gave Albie a loan out. Vennings has probably overtaken him by playing consistent men's football.
I thought that would be Kirk after a little while of adaptation but I think Jackson might have given up on that idea and has started putting him in at wingback. Kirk's not known for his workrate and that CM position in our team needs graft going both ways more than anything else. Lee puts it in and I'm not sure Kirk can. JFC coming back will be good, though when he came back from his last big injury it took him a long time to get back up to speed and I thought he was a bit of a liability when he started playing. In fact, a bit like Kirk he looked much better out at LWB going up and down a track than he did trying to run a game in the middle. Hopefully we'll make Lee permanent in January and we can work on developing competition for him through fitness or positional work on other players

I find it an odd song too.
Why 'goes by the name of Eliott Lee.' Instead of copying other clubs' fans, to the same tune we could sing something specific to Charlton like:
Did you know that his Dad used to be
