There was an oral history project in the late 80s which resulted in an exhibition at the library in Plumstead, sharing people's memories of things that happened in the club's early days. I went to that when it didn't have long left to run, and the guy from the library gave me a poster for it which they weren't going to use. It spent a lot of time attached to walls in various student accommodation, then went into a cupboard. It's now on indefinite load to the museum and in their cupboard instead of mine.
The oldest thing I have is a 1949 club handbook, which I got off ebay.
I was at the game, afterwards I purchased another copy of the programme and picked up a teamsheet. The next home game I had all 6 goalscorers sign the programme and the entire matchday squad and Chris Powell autograph the teamsheet. I was so p***** off we beat the record away win at Stevenage! Aside from these babies, I have Danny Green and Morgan Fox signed poppy shirts, plus an Eddie Youds white redbus top. Scott Wagstaff gave me a shinpad after a Wimbledon pre-season game.

Home programme v Blackburn Rovers 26 April 1958, my first match I can remember attending as a nipper. Only needed a draw to go straight back to the top flight but lost 3-4, typical Charlton, in front of a 56000 plus crowd. Dad perched me on the wall at the top of the East terrace, level with the Covered End.

I was there that day…… the most disastrous result in our entire history. We had been surprisingly relegated from the old first division the previous season and we only needed a draw to out do Blackburn at The Valley on the last day of the season. Some how we contrived to lose 3-4……which sentenced us to decades of second division football (under the stewardship of the scandalously un ambitious Michael Glikstein) and sent Blackburn up instead! I remember leaving watery eyed with my head down on my chest and being more or less carried along by the crowd via The Sam Bartram Entrance. I was10 and was really tiny, about 3 stone (20 kilos) I reckon, slowly shuffling along Lansdowne Mews dwarfed by adult males for what seemed like an eternity. A bit nerve racking to tell the truth but a great experience none-the-less, being in a 56,000 crowd…..in those days many of them were smoking too, which I really hated as there was no way a little nipper like me could avoid it.
One day I’ll dig out the boxes of stuff buried under a load of other stuff in the loft and the shed but I can’t think of anything I might have that’s uniquely memorable for Charlton. Maybe the small cartoon cut out of the Evening News after we got relegated in the Blackpool game and the EN poked fun about the new places we’d get to visit - Mansfield, Rochdale and another if I recall rightly. I do have some stuff for other clubs that’s come my way over the years - Press black and white photos of the first Palace game in the first division 69/70 against Man Utd - Bobby Charlton in one (does that count ?). I also have a Wimbledon player of the year/end of season dinner programme from the early sixties that seems to have been signed by just about everybody in the room. Both lots just too good to throw away, even the first one.

Wow great stuff mate. Slightly off subject i have a friend who lives in Caton nr Lancaster and she has the penalty spot from Morecombe's old ground planted in her front garden of her house. The guy she bought the house from was a fanatical Morecombe fan
I own a few framed signed shirts but my favourite piece I have lost! It is the enamel badge produced for the Back to the Valley game against Portsmouth. It is in the house somewhere but I made the mistake of putting it in a safe place.
I also have the purple and green shirt from the 90s which comes a close second and I still wear it from time to time. On my honeymoon in 1999 in Mexico a shop holder offered me anything in his shop for it but despite him having some nice stuff I wasn't tempted. And I had already burnt my back in the sun!
I also have a Sam Bartram autograph which I am going to design a frame for, but this project is on the back burner.
