  • I think we’ll stay up - we’ve got enough about us to avoid relegation -

    Birmingham absolutely flying.

Unhappy players mainly because of the money some new players have come in on. Also, no promotion bonus offered by TS despite negotiations. Doesn’t help.
If this isn’t a fact, with actual evidence of the statement, then it’s unnecessary and a wind up post. Why has there always got to be some conspiracy when we are playing bad. The next thing will be Adkins really isn’t a positive fella and nobody likes him. The players moaning about new players wages have no right because they were less than impressive last season. Get over it and prove they are worth more money and bonuses.
however Charlton do like to be record breakers, the shortest amount of time to down tools into a season maybe? 🤣🙄
I don't think this lot need to worry about a promotion bonus tbf!!! But I assume everyone's wages will be reduced if we go down.
  • How many there yesterday?

What was the attendance today please? Haven't seen it posted anywhere. Was loud at times today.
    13,790 with 511 away fans

  • Side issue really, but I thought their keeper should've been booked.

The long winded approach from the ref, followed by an extra long verbal caution just added to our frustration and played somewhat into their hands.  An early booking for time wasting sorts out all that old malarky.
Will never understand how they only get a caution for blatantly time wasting when you know they’re not going to get a second yellow if they carry on anyway
  • I know people keep on about the quality of players both new and old, but I personally believe there's enough ability in them to structure a decent side including some back up to swap it round a bit if needed. As long as NA is willing to "experiment" away from this existing format.

Add to that the fact he didn't play the full 6 minutes added time, which is strange, but even worse seeing that they were continued time wasting in the just-over-5-mintes he did play.

Not that we'd have score if we were still playing now though tbh.

  • Ref was poor but we deserve third division refs as we are in the third division. A lot of people at the club should be embarrassed by that fact and should be fighting to put it right.

He should have been booked, but to be fair to the ref he was lenient with his cards to everyone, there were plenty of other offences like shirt pulls which could have been bookings too
  • Dobson has been hit and miss and being honest mostly miss, but I think he has more to offer. I think the full backs are important with our set up and they are not doing their jobs at present. Gunter is playing out of position and you have to take that into account.
  • It was without doubt an awful performance and what we are trying at the moment obviously isnt working.
I really like Stockley but next game I would start with Washington down the middle with lee just behind, leko and CBT either side.
Kirk doesnt deem on it at all and I dont think he has tried to take a defender on since the first 5 minutes of his debut.
Dobson deserves to come back in as I really dont think he did much wrong in his previous performances. Hopefully Arter is far off starting as if we have to use Watson and Morgan much longer we can write this season off. Watson should be using his experience to assist from the sidelines and Morgan needs to go out on loan if there is anyone that will take him.
Lavelle I thought did ok and just as well as Innis seems to have gone again. Surprised me yesterday that Pearce was on the bench and not Deji

I agree - I think there’s enough quality in the team/squad to be doing better than we are. This isn’t a vintage year, we aren’t going to storm the league with 101 points, but we are underperforming currently.

We look worse defensively without Dobson. People (oddly) seem to slate him but he currently needs to be in that CDM role. We are struggling without him closing down and hassling attacking players.

Morgan and Watson is not going to work.. ever
Isn’t that why we’ve signed Arter? Either way we need to find a CM setup that works. Everyone can see Morgan and Watson or Morgan, Clare and Dobson isn’t the answer.
  • I think if Adkins doesn’t get a win at Wycombe or Gillingham he’ll be on borrowed time.
Educated guess Airman or are there whispers circulating ?

Curbishley said you have to manage what you've got. Not dream about other players. Not imposing a system but using the strengths you have. I'm sorry but 1-2 at home to Cheltenham is appalling.

Cheltenham were decent in all areas. They’re used to winning, are all quite comfortable on the ball, and work for each other. Their history is irrelevant. But I still know what you mean.
However, I’d probably swap starting elevens if we could. Which is crazy on paper.

    Curbishley/Jackson anybody?

  • Feels like we can’t find the car keys at the moment, we’ve not even got into first gear!
  • To think some people slagged Lee Bowyer off, this Adkins is a joke!
Bowyer would have blown a gasket after that first half.

The least he demanded was a work effort, that lot today with few exceptions were devoid of any spirit.  I have to wonder about Kirk, I've not seen him pass anyone yet and as for tracking back or putting a tackle in forget it.  As usual our midfield was toothless and gutless.  I don't think Morgan and Watson can play in the same team.

Crewe supporters said this when we signed him, for all the praise for him offensively we shouldn't expect him to track back, he just doesn't do it. Do we actually watch the players that we hope to sign ? Ok stupid question but if Crewe supporters can see it why can't our scouts ?

Wasn’t at the game yesterday thankfully, but have seen a few comments about Stockley’s role as a captain.

Whatever anyone says about his supposed limitations, he is the sort of player who will typically battle hard against any side.

For those saying he shouldn’t be our captain, can you name someone out of this mediocre, tame lot who would be more suitable?

    I’ll wait.

Curbishley has a stand named after him, we can't allow that history to be tainted. An advisory role absolutely. I'd go for joint managers in JJ and Euell. Which is what I felt we should have done last season. It was a free hit for them.

Sadly there isn't a single leader on the pitch in a Charlton shirt. Stockley may battle (though he didn't yesterday), but he's not a leader in the true sense of the word.

Look at the personalities of our previous captains, then look at Stockley's. Miles apart.

I tend to post my thoughts a day after the game so that I give myself some time to think rationally about what what I saw. Cheltenham looked so comfortable with and without the ball, passed it around neatly and hardly reverted to hoof ball. We were the exact opposite. Cheltenham totally dominated that first half.

If it took a whole half to work out the tactics weren’t working then something is not right.
Second half we looked much better but only because Cheltenham were happy to sit back, soak up the attacks and hit us on the break.
If this carries on it doesn’t matter which players come in to the side, the tactics and formation aren’t working and we will struggle to finish mid table.

Get Stockley off he’s hopeless, we’ll play better without him in the side
Someone has lolled this, but the second point is spot on. A few of us said we didn't want to sign him again, as the brand of football with him up top is so painful to watch.
The same applies last season with Aneke. There were times when we played better without him available or on the pitch, as the players on the pitch couldn't just lump it up to him and hide themselves. Stockley isn't the problem, but he isn't the answer either. He drags defences along with him, but should be seen as a distraction more that the only target, so that other players can find room, as Leko did excellently.
  • We have has a bad start for sure but we have a whole new team which didnt even hve pre season to gell just look at some other big teams sheff wed ipswich pompey not exactly playing great or winning all the time

watched ipswich highlights and there fans booed louder than we even have at the end of the game yesterday after losing 5-2

i think this season we should all judge after 12/15 games and give the players and management abit more time to work if its still liek this i agree something will need to change
