    To avoid extra time & penalty shoot outs - withdraw one player from each side every 5 minutes - first team to score wins.  Would provide a 'football' result rather than what we have now.

    a more interesting variant tactically. 1 player comes off after 30 mins of extra time; 5 minutes later they go back on and a different 2 players go off; another 5 mins later they come back and 3 new players go off ending with the final 4 going off 5 mins later. hopefully we've got a result by then. any team down to 10 men is going to have to take their keeper off during this cycle. I'm not sure how this works with teams down to 9 or fewer

    New offside rules being trialled in Italy certainly seem interesting.
