  • Varane to Man Utd looks like it’s happening.

Last I saw it was Leeds or possibly Newcastle for Gallagher
Hope he goes to Leeds,  he would shine in Bielsa's system, perfect fit
Would be absolutely perfect with Kalvin Phillips alongside him. The polar opposite going from working under Big Sam to Bielsa!

I thought he was poor at the Euros .. Ole does like to have six men for every position, gives him lots of (usually poor) options ((:>)

Conor Chaplin to Ipswich sound close, not sure where they plan on playing all these players.

Another good signing for them if they pull it off :-(
  • Chaplin would be a great signing for them but as you say , I don't see where they all start. Also got the likes of Jon Nolan already there for that AM role

Great signing if that comes off, they are really having a go. Can’t be sustainable if they don’t go up but pretty sure they will.
  • I can't see how Ipswich are even remotely close to being within financial fair play rules

If the owners put the investment in as equity then they can spend what they like and still pass FFP. FFP just stops owners gambling money on signings and loading it up as debt on the club.

Not sure how the Johnson family from California feel about it being put in as equity mind...
  • Chaplin, Fraser, Burns, Pigott, Bonne, Edmundson, Harper, Hladky, Evans and Penney.

Some unbelievable signings for them. They may not be better than us in terms of squad depth, but as a starting 11 there’s not going to be many better in League One.

We’re still seriously lacking attacking quality in the side.

I would assume league 1 football is as unsustainable for them as it is us.  Of course spending a lot of money doesn't guarantee anything but having more, better, players sure helps.

You can't just sit there and hope for the best when your losing 7 or 8 million a year just by being there.  Not that I am suggesting that's what we are doing.

The only way clubs like us, Ipswich and Sunderland can be anywhere near sustainable is either by being in the Premier league or massively down scaling the club.  You can't even reduce the lose in league 1 by player trading.  At least you have a chance, not guarantee, of doing that in the championship.

Or by being in the Championship, cherry picking top talents from the lower leagues and selling them on 1-2 years later like Brentford.

Half decent players go for 10m+ these days so if you can find a gem each season for 1-2m and sell him on for 10m you're laughing.

A massive if. If it was that easy everyone would be doing it.  Also you can't buy young European talent any more so it's more than halved the options and doubled the price of the British ones.
  • For the hattrick...

Vokes looks like he could be about to sign for Wycombe.
  • Man Utd set to sign Varane for £34m... Arsenal signing Ben White for £50m...

Surely has to be partly down to the Home Grown rule (not to mention Varane only has a year left) for that price difference?
  • Also Varane is 28. Not old but won’t have much of a sell on value when he’s a 32 year old with a year on his contract.
White meanwhile is 23, Arsenal could have him for 4 years and potentially sell him for profit.
  • Varane had a relatively poor Euros as well. If France had won, that might have stuck another £10m on his price tag!

  • Ipswich are smashing it with some quality first team signings, you can’t knock that.

If they sign Chaplin to play behind Pigott and have Fraser creating, they’re going to score a good amount of goals this season.

I wonder how much Ed Sheeran’s shirt sponsorship is worth to the club. How much did he pay them?
  • Yeah I'm not sure Varane is anywhere near as good as people are making him out to be. He's played alongside Sergio Ramos pretty much his entire Real Madrid career, and other than the UCL matches and the bigger teams in La Liga, which is by and large a slow paced league anyway, he hasn't been tested all that much.

They'd have been better off trying to get Kimpembe, Upamecano, Kouyate or Kounde if they wanted a decent French centre back
  • 42 year old Kevin Ellison has signed a new deal with Newport as player/coach.

Hakeeb Adelakun has signed for Lincoln!! Was he linked with us?

Surely it can’t always be ‘we weren’t interested’. Who knows but starting to get worried now but sure all will be fine.

In the scheme of things probably totally irrelevant.

They have sold Dozzell which probably paid for Fraser.  They are still trying to unload Jackson and Downes plus 3 other members of last year's first team squad.   If they do get Caplin and Edmundson that's two more but they are still lacking in areas. As almost everyone is.

Can they gel and what loans are they going to get.  Until then we don't know, its not a forgone conclusion that they will be brilliant.

    Upamecano already signed for Bayern.
Kimpembe is playing for PSG, so not likely to leave.
Kounde isn't for sale (yet) as Sevilla sold their other centre back instead.
    Who is Kouyate?
  • I thought maybe Sam meant Konate. But he has already signed for Liverpool so maybe not.

another 'striker' who rarely scores .. 19 goals in 169 games for a variety of clubs .. I would be concerned IF we had had a genuine interest in signing him

  • Adelakun is a winger, not a Striker

Has 20-assists though in 134 League One games so not the greatest record either

    He’s a winger
