Reckon it was a subtle dig at the way TK books his PPVs?
Not directly, or intentionally, but the build up and execution couldn't have been more different. Not better or worse.
I said before that Tony books AEW for about a million people and that WWE was booked for one person, but it feels that WWE is now booked for anyone that's watched wrestling casually at any time in the last 20 years.
I honestly don't think WWE has had more "star power" at any time since the early 2000s.
Luck, judgment, HHH, HBK, something else? A mixture probably.
Things must be seriously bad if even Meltzer is pointing out AEW's faults.
To me the issue is the promotion is just dream matches and surprises with few long-term storylines. If you look at what have been good stories you'll notice they all involve the same guys, MJF, Christian, Jericho etc. I assume talent approaches Tony with ideas rather than writers coming up with ideas?
The issue with dream matches is once you've seen it, what next? If there's a storyline you can generate interest. MJF not wrestling too often, until recently, combined with his incredible talent is why he stands out so much. Forbidden door is the worse for it.
I don't think there are any game changers out there for AEW after Punk. Kurt Angle didn't turn things for TNA and although Hogan had an initial impact, it wasn't until he was in a great storyline that things sky rocketed at WCW.
Some promo from Juice Robinson in the current climate...
Yeah not a fan of it tbh.
Also not a fan of Tony Khan on X overall, the lead up to the shows last night was just absolute cringe from the owner, GM, booker and Chairman of AEW. To me, and I'm sure to many others, he comes across as petty and small time in those instances, which is a shame because I want both "brands" to do as well as possible
What's the average viewing figures for Dynamite, the A show of AEW, vs Raw?
What's the average viewing figures for Rampage, the C show of AEW, vs NXT?
And are you seriously trying to claim that AEW and TK didn't try to go All Out with their booking this Tuesday?
They got their ass handed to them, and their product as a whole is currently on a downward trend, at a time when WWE have just merged with UFC and announced new TV deals.
Like I said, I'm a fan of both companies, but this is not a win for AEW in any way

"all out" but it was NXT bringing in Cena, Undertaker, Cody Rhodes and Becky Lynch for a c-tier show. Wheeling them out for a rating of under a million.
Dynamite only brought in Minoru Suzuki who is a midcard Japanese act and other than that used their usual roster.
If they were going "all out", the headline match wouldn't be Edge v Luchasaurus.
"used their usual roster" with a title fight on a buy in pre show (who does those for a normal Tuesday night?!)
Plus another 2 title matches, the debut match of Adam Copeland, and a stacked card with PPV level matches throughout.
300k less watched, a whole third less than NXT.
Lost the demographic, too.
All after Tony Khan crowed all day yesterday on X about how good Dynamite will be (on X all day on his Birthday no less) and calling Triple H and HBK "Bald Assholes"
Sure, WWE used some legends to juice the show, no-ones denying that, but it's like watching an upstart featherweight box around a heavyweight, buzzing about just generally being annoying and loud, and suddenly the heavyweight flexes his muscles and in one punch downs the little twerp.
Tony should keep his mouth shut and book his shows better and actually best WWE that way, instead of trying to win internet points with people like you, willing to lick the inside of his colon
This isn’t pointed at anyone in particular, but I really don’t understand the concept of criticising a wrestling show because the ratings are low.
Did YOU enjoy it or did you not? Are you less likely to watch it next week because 10-20% of regular people chose to not watch it last week?
Are you the same with the music you listen to? Your other hobbies? The football you watch? Is it only ‘valid’ if everyone else is watching it?
AEW has given a strong injection to the industry, especially for those hardcore fans who desperately wanted an alternative. It’s not to everybody’s taste, but wrestling is in a far better spot for its creation. I know this thread would be far quieter without it, because it’s not as if WWE produce much newsworthy TV content worthy of debate.
The clamouring from many for AEW to fail, or to celebrate low ratings…I don’t get it. Surely it’s in the interests of wrestling fans to want them to succeed? The whole “I told you so” mantra from some waiting to see something not quite work for AEW is just a bit pathetic. Especially as they’ll still be tuning in week after week anyway.
Pro wrestling in 2023 is a fairly niche interest, and it’s not particularly purposeful to be continually criticising against the only viable alternative, and seemingly enjoying their slip-ups. But I guess that’s the sort of self-sabotaging culture that social media has driven.
FTR (!) WWE stacked NXT because its current network deal is coming to an end. They couldn't care less about AEW.
Dynamite was meant to be a special title Tuesday event, yet in an empty building there are people in an executive box watching NXT and they had their lowest viewing audience ever.
No one wants AEW to fail and I'm not sure what's wrong with talking about how it is failing? Claiming it's something it's not is pretty strange. Seems only criticism of WWE is permitted. 😕

Rant over.
I think this is a great post tbh.
I stopped watching "modern wrestling" about 7 or 8 years ago. It's either on this thread or the original thread that sporned this one as to my reasons.
I got back into it because of AEW. AEW have produced some of the best wrestling TV in recent times, and Bell to Bell PPVs ever.
They have also produced some of the worst, sloppy and unprofessional wrestling matches in history of TV.
The EVPs, Hangman, Cassidy, Moxley and their friends have convinced Tony they know what they are doing, and it's good, and he believes them.
I don't hate AEW, or the idea of it at all. I am pissed of that when WWE was probably at its lowest point in 30 years a billionaire, who could get a TV deal, came along and started a wrestling company. One that could seriously challenge the WWE. And he gave that up for a cult of a million people that worship the Elite.
That's sad. It was a once in a life time chance to reignite the Monday night wars, the expansion era and everything else that fueled the best stuff in the history of the industry.
It's because of AEW I started watching WWE again. In the words of JR high tides raise all ships.
Wasted opportunity and some people will argue black is white and end up blaming the audience for not appreciating the "modern way" ie competitive parkor and aggressive tumble saults.
Bell to Bell has never made the money, even when it is the best ever, I don't believe that 80% of AEWs PPV matches are better than Rock v Hogan (as per Meltzer) but if it did Mid South, World Class, JCP, WCW, TNA and ROH would have put vince out of business along time before Tony had the chance.
They had MJF defend the secondary tag titles in a 2 on 1 handicap match at the opener of their last ppv and Khan is acting like a teenage on Twitter/X.
Everyone has been calling for an alternative since WCW went under and knows it's best for the industry, it's why WWE has a brand split. For a time it looked like AEW were but they're on a massive downslide and some posters (I'm sure they're trolling) can't see it, like Khan who seems to believe everything is great. Edge's debut last week drew a smaller audience than WWE's developmental. They've lost Jade and Cody. Perhaps the clamour for an alternative is blinding some people to reality, judging by the posts they like and lol. I expect there wouldn't be rants if the shoe was on the other foot and WWE were failing and AEW was succeeding.
There are threads on here about the attendance at The Valley, I'm going to NJPW on Saturday and they'll probably only be a thousand or so there.

Found this today while clearing out boxes
"I hear someone that used to work here is on the other channel, I heard he had a father but....."
Absolutely stacked NXT.
Does it say something that the EVPs weren't advertised for Dynamite?

This looks great but will be a tough watch.

Not bad for the third show of WWE...
Cody Rhodes too
