We're Charlton fans, not Bowyer fans. If a manager holds back our club, my loyalties lie with the club.
Yeah, that's right.  Sack him now and bring in another manager.  He has a bad 15 games and get rid of him.
    Clueless.
Having a different opinion to you doesn't make me clueless. Part and parcel of posting on a football forum.

Anyway, I'd say his bad run extends into last season. Injuries or not, his tactics after Christmas were shit and effectively got us relegated.
I thought relegation was down to Taylor.

Depends who you ask. One more goal would have kept us up, so either Taylor or some less defensive football could have made the difference.

Get in a defensive coach at the very least. We are a shambles.
Sacking JJ who is our defensive coach at the moment maybe a little controversial.

I think he deserves until the end of the season no matter what happens.

But in the summer we need a full appraisal of our coaching staff and facilities.

How many bad games before you worry?
    I'm sticking by Sandgaard's view.

He wants promotion in 2 seasons and sees Bowyer as the man to do it.
So basically however crap we are you're okay with it.

He deserves an opportunity to take us up. The moment that looks unlikely is the moment he should go, whenever it is.

Every young new manager needs a run like this.
The good ones find a way out.

It's his first real test if we're honest. The last couple of years were a free hit, and he got through them pretty much unscathed.

I do have to.question some of his bizarre tactical decisions. But again. He's still learning. If we can show some faith and he gets through this spell I honestly believe it will make us stronger.

Two transfer windows for him, reassess in October.

    In total agreement with @RodneyCharltonTrotta

For me, wanting to give Bowyer the benefit of doubt for the moment, ain't ignoring the terrible recent results or tactics. It's remembering the positivity that spread when TS completed and remembering that so so many thought that this could be the start of a new era for the Club, with Bowyer very much a massive part of that at the time (all of 6 weeks ago??). Maybe I'm getting soft in me old age, but I'm finding the vitriol shown towards Bowyer and anyone who shows any loyalty towards him, unnecessary and a bit ott when you consider what he's done, versus what he's making a bit of a mess of at the moment.

We saw tonight that the players are behind Bowyer 100%. They could have folded after conceding four goals in the first half, but came out and won the second half convincingly. A fantastic effort and if had not be for Kettle, who has clearly never played the game, I think we would have won.
Now the players have regrown a pair I can see us performing better. Maybe not winning, but I will be looking for the performance. The team that played that half should be the team that starts Saturday - although the defence will need a change. I think we stand a good chance of getting into the playoffs still.

And in 2 years time we are still in league 1 are we supposed to still say well Bowyer was loyal to us.

    How long does it last?
We need to get out of this division ASAP the wage cap is bad enough when we was one of the championship teams coming down, but when we have players out of contract and need to replace them under which cap restrictions, us you have 3 sides coming down from championship with better players already having an advantage, its gonna make it tougher to get out this league.

We need to get out now before we get stuck here and if Bowyer cant dont that we need to try someone else
Why will we still be in this division for two more seasons?
You have watched us in the last two months yeah?

That’s why we will still be in this league if we stick with him.

    Charlton fan first
    Bowyer fan second
    Loyalty, stability, patience.
Relegation, soon to be mid table league one, mediocrity.

I must have missed all the wins from December last season onwards.

If you are talking about Pearce and the red card did you not see Curbishley agreed with the decision.

Alan Curbishley on Pearce red card: "When you see it back, he doesn't give the ref any other alternative. He had to go for it...but if he didn't get it he was going to get booked."

Exactly.  LB had no role in our relegation it was all Taylor’s fault.  Your loyalty to LB is to be admired. An, if Thomas sticks with him, you could be correct, and we will all be happy, and you can say told you so.  Or, this turgid shit can continue, and we can end up in such a mess, no reasonable player would sign for us unless we are the last option. We can’t wave the cheque book.  An apparently being the last option for current members of the squad, is one of the reasons we are in trouble, according to LB loyalists.

I don’t want him out, I want him to fix it. If that is beyond him, then I want him out.

The league is toilet. Standard is far worse than when we got promoted in my opinion.

We've played more games but its a tight league. We have won twice in 11 games and are only just outside the playoffs.

    Far from unlikely yet.
  • We’ve shipped 6 goals in two games both at The Valley v Accrington Stanley and Rochdale gaining one point in the process.  Talk of turning corners and things looking up are I still think a tad premature. I never thought the talk of top two was realistic but was very hopeful that top six was almost a given. I think that’s looking unlikely at this point.

Fair enough, but we'd need to use the same logic for every manager that follows then, surely?

So if we don't and continue to defend like dogshit and he gets sacked, we should name and shame those who wanted to keep him in?

I don't think anyone who is suggesting Bowyer out particularly wants to be in that situation, or one of the ridiculous claims that we want to be doing badly to get rid of him. He's a hero for the last few years, but we're on a bad run, and he's reacted to that himself pretty poorly and all the whispers suggest he's losing the dressing room for it. Unfortunately with a change in ownership, management changes are always pretty inevitable at some point to get their own men in, and this seems to be going that way.

If the comeback tonight ignites a change in his philosophy to go a bit more attacking and on the front foot etc, everyone would be delighted. I'm not going to get too excited about a draw with Rochdale at home in isolation though, but we will see.

Really winds me up when Bowyer bangs on about how hard the cap is. He's the one who signed Watson and Gunter on inflated wages, could have 5 players for their wages

The "In The Know" thread isn't about naming and shaming people, just a light-hearted way of showing which posters have sources that tend to pan out, that people can refer to at times when there's a flurry of rumours about transfers etc. Would you be arguing for a "deluded rose-tinted glasses" brigade list if we plummet down the table and Bowyer gets sacked? People have different levels of patience or expectation, and while you can try to persuade people why you think changes need to be made or more time is needed, digging out individuals isn't going to get us anywhere.
