An estimated 2 million people in the UK live with long Covid – of whom approximately 700,000 developed the condition in the so-called “mild” era of Omicron. Evidence has also been accumulating of the increased risks of long-term conditions such as autoimmune diseases, type 1 diabetes and cardiovascular disease following Covid infection. Each subsequent reinfection with Covid poses a risk of post-Covid conditions – and reinfections in those who already have long Covid can worsen their symptoms and affect their overall recovery. All of this risk can be markedly reduced by vaccination.
Having a vaccination that could save your life is not living in fear any more than putting on a seat belt that might save your life. When the next pandemic comes which it will, the lessons learned from Covid in terms of treatments and community management will be invaluable. On a personal note, I have taken my latest vaccine invite but unless things change in the next year for the worse then I’ll give careful thought to any other Covid vaccination.
Sadly I think the opposite will be the case, the amount of negativity post lockdown / vaccines will mean the general public will much more against any similar (and potentially) necessary measures.
When people are dying the majority will fall into line. As dreadful as Covid-19 was there is every possibility that the next pandemic will be worse.

I’m on your side with this one. Possibly not the greatest endorsement though is that President Trump also said it started in China and I don’t think his pointed remark was meant for the wet market. I don’t believe it’s a stretch to think a lab working on Covid right in the same city as where the virus started wasn’t responsible.

I'm not saying nobody knows. The Chinese almost certainly know but they're not telling. I'm saying we don't know, the US doesn't know and the UK doesn't know. They may suspect but there is no proof either way that is available to us or them. According to this article https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-66005240 "most US intelligence agencies agree the virus was not genetically engineered or "laboratory-adapted" and multiple agencies believe the virus was transferred from animals to humans. Others believe the lab leak theory.
FWIW, I agree it's probably a stretch that a nearby covid lab wasn't involved but I'm just pointing out that this is still an unproven theory that is far from universally accepted.

What is never taken into consideration is that if we are being lied to about eg vaccines, and the war in Ukraine, then we’re looking at a conspiracy that takes in every government in the world, even the rogue ones and every doctor and scientist. For god sake, even Iran had a vaccine programme.
Trouble is, some conspiracy theories actually turn out to be true. Everyone was far too busy believing this started in a market... rather than the lab 5 mins from the market that makes these kinda viruses with the USAs financial backing.
You say some of the theories turn out to be true but then cite one that remains undetermined. The various US security and intelligence agencies can't come to an agreement on the most likely cause of the pandemic and I don't think the UK is any clearer. I had the shingles vaccine yesterday. For anybody interested it is not a ‘live’ vaccine, and requires two doses eight weeks apart. Next one early January.
