Dear Les, one of the most thoughtful, friendly fellas that I have been lucky enough to know. Always a kind word and a twinkle in the eye. I first met him on the legendary Lewis's coach about 1971 and still remember him and Bobby leading us all singing Beatles songs together, to while away the journey to the away ground. On top of that, his repertoire of Covered End songs was total, and always word perfect. Great days.
Les was an enthusiastic footballer in those days, a fine keeper.
When the coach stopped at the motorway services stations, many of us would pile out to have an impromptu kick about game in the lorry car park. And out of that, we formed LAC Rovers (Lewis Away Coaches!) and entered the Woolwich & District League. Always remember the night we had our first meeting at Barbara & Chris Slattery's flat and Les singing his Mick Jagger impressions!
I last spoke to Les fairly recently before one of the West Brom games I think, when he told me about his health conditions I was surprised he was still standing let alone going to football.
His love for Charlton kept him going as long as possible. He always spoke fondly of my Uncle and I remember him going to the funeral. People like Les aren't just Charlton fans they are much more than that and make the club what it is.
RIP Les - I wish I had known him. Reading all of the lovely tributes on here shows you how wonderful some people are. Danny; sorry for your loss. Certainly, your dad is someone to be so proud of. It sounds like he had a great life. We can all only hope to be as loved as, clearly, he is during our own lifetime. I am proud to call myself a fellow Addick.

Terribly sad news. Les was a great guy. One of my memories of Les was on the eve of our return to the Valley. We had been celebrating at the Meridian club in Charlton, and Les wanted to see the ground. It was midnight and 5 of us squeezed into his car and headed to the ground. The floodlights were still on and we just sat there watching as people continued to work at the stadium. I could see the joy that moment gave him. We were going back the Valley!
Ah, so very sorry to logon and see this news. It was a privilege to know Les just a little bit. Will always remember meeting him at the Scottish pre season friendlies in 1991, I believe it was, just after I had moved to Glasgow. Les was travelling back and forth, including by night bus, to see us draw with St Mirren et al!

Danny, apologies for my belated condolences. I am away at the moment and have just bought an internet pass. I am so, so sorry for both you and your sister’s loss. Really can’t add much more than has been said. He was a true gentleman and one of the most polite and kind person’s I’ve known. Charlton was in his soul. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family
I hope you don’t mind, seeing as you put a photo up earlier, but here is your old man after the play off final, celebrating going up. He was sat next to us after I got him a ticket in with our lot.
Very pleased that one his last memories will be of that final x
One of my favourite memories of Les, was him having to deal with Lisa Impey in Charlton Village as she hung around waiting to try and chat up @Elthamaddick!
