  • I've not had a tv for 15 years, I've never used my landline is there anywhere I can just get broadband ?
Apart from hacking into next doors wifi, if you find any Bob, please let me know!
  • Got Zen now. Great speeds and superb customer service.
  • I'm currently paying £38 a month with Virgin for 350mb and a TiVo box, which for me works like Freeview, the aerial on my roof was already not working when I moved in 3 years ago, but virgin uses their cables, so it works well for me! Will have to move to IPTV when I leave them, but the TiVo recording features are very good in my opinion.

Their link up with o2 is actually pretty good for customers, if you have both O2 and virgin they upgrade your broadband package one notch (I'm paying for 250mb/s) and your phone data package too (I'm getting 50gb a month, paying for 30). Which is great because Virgin broadband is down so fucking much, you can use your phone data plan and still be able to work from home.
  • I threatened to leave Virgin so they knocked my monthly payment down to £21 for a volted 250mb internet connection. All it took was a friendly 10 minute chat.
  • I've cancelled the TV and just have broadband with them now. 350mb for £26 a month. Shame as they've recently updated the UI and it's pretty decent now.

    Virgin do it.

I had TIVO but the 360 box is far better. I have read the controller is not as good as Sky's equivalent but when you master it I think it is better.

    I preferred TIVO.
If your broadband goes down you can’t watch any recorded programmes.
If you want to watch cricket on the slowest fast forward because you are catching up, you have a bleeding great arrow in the middle of the screen.

If it is any help to anybody in the future, Virgin have been ringing me and I haven't been picking up to make them stew, if they do stew. My contract runs out at the start of January. I answered today and they offered me a deal with the Mega TV package, TNT and sky sports and 1064 mbps broadband (They will send me a new router and wave the set up fee). The price was £90 for an 18 months contract when it is currently just over £84. I accepted it because I like the 360 box and I won't lose TNT. They said the normal cost of the package I am getting is £178, I doubt anybody is paying that.

Previously I was offered the same package I am getting now for £96. I am happy enough with the new deal. The EE deal was tempting but what put me off was if there were any broadband issues I would get it in the neck from my wife and son.

I have all that plus Sky Entertainment & Cinema and am meant to be paying @£220pm but negotiated £86pm.

Well done with that. I am happy enough with £90. I am getting Sky cinema too but I never watch it. Is the broadband noticeably better? If anybody has a virgin contract running down, Covered Ends is the deal to emulate. If EE gets fibre broadband in my area in 18 months time I will probably move then,

Having had Virgin for ever I have had to use Sky Q for the last 2+ years.  Sky Q is definitely inferior to Virgin (V6).

I was ready to give Sky a go but they just didn't seem to care. They offered me £84 with 70mbps. Also, I couldn't record programs with their deal. The EE saleswoman was excellent but I think the unknown was the issue for me. I went for the devil I know. My 250mbps seems fine to me so will report what difference the 1G service makes.
  • I was out of contract with Virgin , my bill was going to be £108 for tv mega & tnt sports, 250mb and a landline phone. Spoke to them last week ( an hour on the phone). Told them that my budget was £60 and would go elsewhere if they couldn’t get to this figure. Got it for £56 with an increase of broadband speed to 500mb.

    I’ve always been with Virgin.

Not read all previous posts so don’t know if there are concerns about the virgin broadband but I switched to the mega deal during the year sometime, forget when, time flies. Not wishing to tempt fate but I’ve not had any issues with the broadband. It’s O2 supplying it and £25 of that £90 will be to them, which if you can utilise the unlimited mobile phone sim (like I was able to switch one of the household mobiles to) makes it more sweeter. I needed one of their booster boxes on the first floor (the house is 3 floors and the kitchen has been extended) and that’s ensured a decent signal everywhere for the two tvs with boxes and 5 of us effectively connecting to wifi at the same time.

I think when you get it running it is fine. The problem is the company is badly run. I am already starting to regret agreeing a new contract. Firstly they haven't updated the new contract and my bill was higher than agreed. This is because, I am told I haven't moved over to the correct new contract specs yet, I think. Anyway I sorted this but they were generally crap and I had to threaten to leave them as part of my cool off period as the amounts I should pay were sent to me by them on 7th December.

I think part of the issue was I hadn't set up the 1 GIG broadband yet. I arranged with them to deliver today as I was away last week. I changed plans so I was in for delivery and got a text on Sunday confirming it would be delivered today. Didn't get a tracking number from Yodel this morning so I rang Virgin. (By the way, the best way to speak to a person is to choose the thinking of leaving them option on the phone). I was told it should arrive by 7pm. It didn't and I spoke to somebody else and she said Yodel had issues with their warehouse and I wouldn't be getting today and probably not for a few days. I asked why I couldn't be told this originally and further investigation shows this has been an issue for them since the start of the month which they all know about.

It isn't desperate as I have working internet and TV as per previous spec but I have been reminded of how useless and dishonest they are. Apparently the cool off period has to start when I have the new equipment working, so it better work for their sakes. When I was sold a new deal the person doing so was aware of the issue, according to what I have read online, but didn't mention it. Imagine what it would be like for a new customer who needs the internet for their work. They are a useless company but their equipment and broadband is the best I have available. I can still see problems ahead for me if I don't receiive the equipment by the 6th of January when my old contract was due to expire.

BTW, who in their right minds uses Yodel? They are even worse than Evri. DPD are the best and I know that from my business. If Virgin have a poor reputation, why use a company that will make things worse? I know the answer, they are cheap but you have to factor in losing customers.

  • Agreed Muttley.
I agreed £86pm instead of £220 pm and I got e mail confirmation.
They then charged me £220 and were claiming no knowledge of the agreement.
I reminded them I had an e mail confirmation.
They won't confirm any verbal agreements by e mail as they are not allowed/able to e mail.
You have to wait days for official confirmation.
They definitely lie or are incompetent or both, but I'm never deterred I always "win" and stay with them because it's simpler, other than the 18 month joust/saga.

Yes, I told the seller that I wouldn't agree a contract without seeing it and with every payment for the period clearly shown. Basically the initial payment and then monthly subsequent payments which should be the same. Then I used that to sort out the incorrect bill they sent me. You have to laugh and they were explaining about how their billing systems work and I told them I couldn't care less about that, I have in writing, which I agreed, what the payments would be. Although I was promised it would be amended within 48 hours and hasn't yet been although the 48 hours isn't up until Tuesday at 9am. I will sort it all out but as you say, all this stuff is needless and crap but when it is sorted it will be smooth from experience.
  • My 18 month new customer deal comes to an end in early March with Virgin, but will be returning to Sky as I was with them for 20 odd years and only left as they virtually doubled my bill, being a 'platinum' customer.
Virgin seem to have moved the customer services to South Africa!, and like all these multi media companies, old customers are treated as  a 'mug punter'. Loyalty counts for very little if at all. So I have had about 20 calls from Sky asking me to return! as I have two mobile's, and  been a customer even longer. They have even suggested they would buy out my contract......
We shall see, what this 'super duper, once in a lifetime, mega deal' comes down to in mid January, otherwise it is a fire stick, via my son, and I will have sky broadband fibre. (We still have telegraph poles down these parts), In fairness the service has not been bad, both broadband and tv, but prefer Sky customer services...... We shall see!

I regret not going with EE which I had planned to do before they rang me. The TV was the same including Sky Sports Plus red button and it was £25 a month cheaper. Yes the broadband was slower but probably fine for my needs. Virgin don't deserve customers. If I told them to cancel now I would probably be without a service for a while. I got a text from Virgin today, I thought good an update. No it was trying to sell me faster broadband!!!!
  • Latest contract with Virgin ended and renewed £40 per month cheaper!

As an update, Virgin have had a problem with one of their warehouses so they have not sent me my new router. Not a massive problem as I can still use the old one but they did not inform me of the issue and sent me messages that it would be delivered on Monday. I didn't get a tracking number despite being told it was on its way and when I rang in the morning to find out whether it was safe to go out, their operative confirmed it would arrive that day which it didn't.

I spoke to another operator who said it was the Christmas post but I managed to get her to admit that it hadn't been sent yet. All I want is them to be honest and not tell me lies, sigh! And of course not to give me misinformation that wastes my time. Then I rang another operator who after I had given all the details to, cut me off and then another who promised to ring me back in a couple of days with an update, which she didn't. I found out about the Virgin warehouse issue, they had a chlorine leak, online and I had to tell its staff as they either didn't know or chose to blame Yodel.

Anyway, I got through to a good one and she has been very helpful. She didn't know when I would get my router but was honest about it and helpful and promised to keep in touch with me until it is sorted which she did by ringing me this morning. Getting cut off by others and given wrong info really annoyed me. I don't want anything other than an apology but Virgin need to improve their customer service. I thought I would make a complaint, not about the lateness of the delivery, which still hasn't happened, but getting cut off and not being rung back, promises to ring which then didn't happen. Being given a wrong bill on my e-mail and account which is for more than my old and new contract and getting loads of e-mails and texts from them encouraging me to improve my broadband speeds!!!!

The responses to my complaint are suspicious. They start by stating We have an update for you on how your complaint is progressing with us. We’ve tried to contact you to discuss in more detail, but we were unable to reach you. We didn’t want to delay things, so we’ve gone ahead and offered a proposed resolution.'
This is on three seperate responses and I have had no missed calls. The first reponse completely missed what the complaint was about assuming it was about the lateness of the equipment when it was about the lies I have been given verbally and in writing. I politely suggested they read the complaint again but got a similar answer. I then got the usual trying to contact you rubbish with a para about them sending my router out on 13th then another saying they have just passed to Yodel! They offered me £10 for the equipment being late but I am not after money I wanted an apology and an acceptance their customer service was poor in the vain hope they might try to address issues. I then realised Something like chat GTP has been dealing with my complaint and I can pick out numerous lies in the responses as well as contradictory inconsistences.

I haven't accepted the £10. I object to being lied to and have demanded a human being looks at my complaint. I wonder how the AI will react to that. Truely one of the worst communicating companies you can get. When the other providers catch up with speeds they will be gone. I certainly will be in 18 months, whatever.
  • No surprise at all.
I’ve been with them for 30 years because when it’s working it’s very good (for me).
But the customer service is just as you describe.
I stay because I always persevere and get the price knocked down substantially every time.
