Charlton Athletic v Fulham | Wednesday 22 January 2020 Post-match thread

Happy with a point.

I thought we played quite well. Stabilised in midfield with Cullen and we held a decent Fulham side to few, if any, shots.

0-0

Over to you.

Positives from the game and there will be more once we train our players on how to take corners :)

Good result against a good team, a clean sheet, no injuries, and the squad almost back, 6 points clear of relegation with superior goal difference ... bloody excellent night.

    Excellent point.

    Cullen back is massive.
    Defence put in a shift.

    Over to you, Your Excellency.

We need wins asap but you cant deny that being a very good point. Players coming back make such a difference without that sounding too disrespectful to the kids that filled in against experienced pros.

    Well played boys.
  • Positive evening. Taylor and Williams surely ready to start v Barnsley, Field on the bench, and 4 new signings as well and we can go for it.

Hemed would love to have Taylor along side him - I thought he gave a good go tonight.

Only saw second half from the sky coverage!

alfie D kept running and running - very good both attacking wise and defensively in front of Matthews - crossing poor and seems to be very left footed!

oztumer - don’t know what he brought?

williams - class act , really driving force when he came on

Pearce - just as much a liability as sarr - get rid of both in summer!

matthews and purrington - both looked solid enough , good players defending them from the wide area and the central midfield can only have helped!

FKs- why do we play it so such awkward positions? Lump it to the player on his own surrounded by oppo shirts rather than just into the box

corners - similar to FKs, just lumped to the far lost hoping someone will head back across

GOOD point , let’s kick on now!!
  • Would have definitely taken a point or a clean sheet before the game so very happy with that. Wasnt pretty but made Fulham look pretty average and when you consider what their squad costs in  comparison. Just a shame our final 3rd decision making was pretty woeful again.

Nice to have a bit of a break now so should hopefully get some more bodies back to fitness and a bit more time to do some decent business in the remainder of the transfer window. Bow signing up is also massively important. Suddenly feel a whole lot more positive about things. COYA!!

    Did Lyle wave goodbye?

     ;)
  • At last a clean sheet, and we began to look like proper Lee Bowyer Charlton during the second half. The gloom is lifting...

Ten days till our next match.
Now that Bowyer has signed I expect more good news before we smash Barnsley 5.0

Great to get a morale boosting point and a clean sheet with it.

I was worried about this game a few days ago but once the starting line up and bench were announced things were a whole lot better.
  • While the stats were not good, the clean sheet and a point was priceless. We got some players coming back and the manager signed.

I think that we may well look back on today as a turning point.

Injured players back. Clean sheet. Point against third place.

Proud of all the lads. Let’s start moving away from bottom 3.

Who was the guy or gal on here who predicted the 0-0 because they left their glasses behind? Thank you.

But, in the real world, all hail Josh Cullen.

Happy with that, midfield looked so much better, sign Taylor, Cullen and get Field fit. We do need more players and ESI that's over to you! We can stay up and build for next season's play off push.
  • What a difference 4 days makes. So many positives tonight!

    - Bowyer has signed
    - first clean sheet in god knows how long
    - Cullen played 90 and makes a huge difference sitting infront of the back 4
    - strongest match day squad in ages
    - positive attacking substitutions
    - had more quality when we did have the ball

Only negative really is our final ball wasn't quite there. Doughty squandered a couple of chances to put in quality ball and we didn't take advantage of our set peices which we had a lot of tonight.

Well happy with that point, just a shame we couldn't nick it with that final free kick!

A very welcome point and clean sheet against a quality Fulham side. Builds a platform for the 6 pointers we have ahead of us as we move into February
