And I’ll stick with catastrophic, there’s a real buzz around the place which we all love. Relegation happens, it goes, no one wants the league one dog fight new owners or not. The crowds go away again, the buzz goes away, and worst of all, our big day at Wembley tarnished (do you remember Bauer’s last minute goal, yeah shame we went down straight away, so charlton). Negative rant over, hope I have egg on my face come feb 1st and they pull their finger out.
I think we are all expecting there to be interest and offers in for Taylor, we’d be foolish to think otherwise.
At this late stage, and with Bowyer saying he will speak to Taylor this week, I would be genuinely surprised and saddened if he were to leave. Finding an adequate replacement at this late stage would be almost impossible.
Genuine question as i haven't read about it but is this a 'last chance to try and convince him to stay' chat, or a 'we know he's going but want to see if he'll put the effort in until May' chat?
Confident things will happen. Would be both astonishing and worrying if after ESI busting a gut to take ownership in order to work the transfer window and given our league position and recent injuries. I seriously doubt we are all going to be jumping for joy in Saturday morning but I think Bowyer will get reinforcements.
Yes and don't forget (everyone not SHG) that if ESI hadn't bought us on January 2nd, you can be confident that RD would have sold Taylor and anyone else he could, with or without replacements.
So even if they get no one else in, they still took the correct action.
Running on pure faith at the minute, few rumours about but nothing too exciting let’s be honest, the best player linked with coming or going is Lyle Taylor.
I’ve seen many saying “judge ESI come 1st feb”, if it’s looking grim them I assume the same will be saying “judge ESI come May 3rd”. Massive week in our history coming up, relegation would be catastrophic, simple as that.
No one wants to go down, but catastrophic? We've been down before you know!
I'd describe relegation as horrendous, annoying or a pain in the poop-loop. I'll reserve catastophic for the following; folding, being forced to leave the Valley and ground share with Millwall or being sold back to Roland.
This is a football forum mate, no need to play tomato tomata. Okay I’ll keep it simple, going down would be a kick in c^nt/sh1te/heart wrenching/catastrophic/horrendous, choose whatever word you like all means the same in this context.
But right now it's not all doom & gloom. We're in a period where new signings have been promised, key players returning from injury, and a lot of football still to be played this season.
So why keep focussing on the worst case scenario, mate? ...... You make Golfie sound cheerful.
We have 1 win in 17, that pattern carries on we are down. You can be as cheerful as you like but that is the scenario, not the worst or best, that is what’s happened, and all we’ve done to rectify it is bowyers contract, that’s it. We are 1 or 2 unlucky injuries away from another crisis.
It's not even about being cheerful.
Yeah we've been on a dire run - but we know why. No team in the division would not have struggled given the same injury crisis. And even the last 6 games, we've played most of the teams in the top 7. And picked up half a dozen points.
But now we have key players coming back, the mood in the camp is positive .... and we've every chance of strengthening this week. We've got the manager we need. And it seems the owners we need also.
Whether you're glass half full or glass half empty, it's the same amount of beer in the glass.
Bowyer has said that he thinks Taylor will stay (didn’t specify whether for the season or in a new contract) but that he thought that about Gallagher and he was wrong there.
Bowyer has said Lyle made a little joke in the drawing room after the last game but didn’t say about what. Linked to that he said that he thought that he (aBowyer) signing a new contract might help but he wasn’t sure and was going to talk to Lyle face to face after the weekend that see what Lyle had to say.
Matt Southall has said we will only let Lyle go this season if we get a huge offer for him.
My best guess is that Lyle will stay for the remainder of the season and then it will be up to us to try and match oppo bids in the summer window.

I said I would judge them on the 31.12 20. Looks like you may have already judged them if you are having a dig at those who said 1st February.
31.12.20? So you will hold judgement if we go down then??
Not that I expect to get relegated. To prove my confidence in that I have bet £20 at 60-1 with Betfair that we will finish in the top half of the league.
Sorry Redrobo but that's got about a 5% chance of happening. We'd need 30-35 points from 17 games and our form would need to be somewhere between top of the league and third.

You won't have egg on your face. We're all anxious, but we all know the majority of January deals take place on the last day or two. Most clubs and players do not need to make a decision until then.

More pressure on the team to get results now then. Not many gave the team a chance playing WBA & Fulham when we had no Taylor, Williams or Cullen. Now we are playing Barnsley & Luton with (presumably) all 3 (plus 2 or 3 new recruits) we had better get a couple of wins because if the results dont pick up NOW then we will be relegated......no ifs, no buts.

Persuade him to sign a new contract.
What Covered End said.
With Bow signing his new deal, it’s a case of finding out what he’s thinking and whether they can sit down and get something sorted. Bow has always stated Taylor won’t sign until he does. Now it’s done, let’s see if we can get something sorted. If not, he gives his all until the end of the season and we say thank you and good luck in May.

I know we are a much better side now the injuries are coming back. It’s the “what ifs” that worry me. We have 3 top championship players IMO, game changers that make all difference (Cullen/Williams/Taylor, 1 or 2 of them injured again and it’s over, unless we bring in some real quality before Friday. That’s where the anxiety lays.

Bowyer didn't day Gallagher would stay, they said there was no indication that he would be recalled... massive difference.
As an aside it'll be interesting if any of our youngsters go out on EFL loans this week as if they don't then you imagine the likes of Bromley will be licking their lips at the prospect of getting some of them on short terms loans

The drawing room? Is that along with the new vegetarian kitchen?

I love the idea of them retiring to the drawing room to discuss the match.
I genuinely cannot believe, I am reading on social media people saying 'good, don't want Maddison anyway'. Literally walks into our squad and makes us a better team straight away. People want us to be shit because the bloke likes Xbox and has face tats. I don't get it.
Cawley saying that news about Maddison is a real dampener
Really bugs me when people judge a players attitude before he comes here, we have had players and managers come here with a reputation and they've done fine, we have had players with good reputations and they've been pants. Don't get why people are so concerned by how a player acts off the pitch as long as he isn't doing anything illegal
When was our maddison bid accepted? I think a lot of us thought that was the start of some serious investment (the deals pending comment did little to lessen that). Since then, there has been nothing of note so people are understandably frustrated - especially after the shite fest of the RD era and how utterly disappointing transfer windows tended to be under his stewardship.
We can but hope things are underway in the background - I don't think we heard of many of our summer deals until the last minute? But when/if the signings do materialise, I think the least we can expect is some seriously impressive reveals involving the reincarnation of the one and only scarfy.
CAFC polls posted the question would Pogba be a good signing, and a few people said no so I asked the question why people were saying no and if people had seen him play, this was a response from an Atlanta fan
Pogba had many good moments for #ATLUTD in 2019! We let him go more about the $ than what he provided for us which was some solid depth when we needed it. He's very strong and most defenders can't win the ball from him. To me he would be a great addition.
The issue with the MLS is there trying to get a new collective bargaining agreement sorted, and clubs won't hold players like Pogba or recommit on contracts until that's sorted.
If his CV said Barca, Bayern and Juve do you think he'd be training with us?
His total transfer fees amount to £450k and has never excelled at any of his mediocre clubs over career.
Gallen and Bowyer won’t sign him then if they don’t think he’s good enough.
I give you Joe Ledley.
We were extremely desperate then and gave him a one month deal. With Purrington and the emergence of Doherty, we aren’t at that stage of need for a Left back.

Ledley was still a poor signing and Bows got his selection wrong at Boro. Then he never played against despite the injuries, was truly bizarre.
I agree we don't need a Left-Back anymore though. Purrington is decent in a 4 and Doughty is doing well.
That being said, I think Pogba is a CB who can do a job at LB. He is similar to Sarr so unless he's better it would be a pointless signing.

I would very much like to sign a centre midfielder for a fee that can come straight in and strengthen the side.
All the above and I would be fairly happy.
The current CBA expires on the 31st
That being said I do think it's slightly weird considering he only played that one half and was never used again even though he was on the bench.
