    Petrol hybrid cars are a great way of combining the worst of both worlds.  It's a bit like the Rickey Gervais line when he talks about being English, but with French ancestry (from his surname).  He says, "I am shit in bed, but at least my breath stinks of garlic". 
    I agree - a 5.0l V8 supercharged petrol engine is the way to go.

  • On YouTube you can see battery changing ‘garages’ in Norway. Takes about five minutes apparently.

    That’s if the car has been designed to be able to do that, many cars haven’t been and the batteries are part of the chassis.

  • Discovered last week that my Uni does a salary sacrifice lease scheme for EVs.

    Used the calculator and was surprised how good the deals seemed, given they included road tax, insurance and full maintenance (even including new tyres)

    Cupra Born was coming out at £320pm.
    Kia EV6 was coming out at £600pm.

    Thats hugely tempting to take as a second car when we need one.  The second car would only be doing local miles.

    I really want to get a VW ID Buzz Cargo but I am too stupid to figure out how to get a good deal. I understand the concept of salary sacrifice but no idea how to make it work. I struggle to figure out how to pay myself properly as it is!

    We were in exactly the same position at the start of this year. My wife and I thought the scheme was worth it and started looking at the likes of the Cupra Born and the Renault Megane as it was just going to be our second car for running around town. Ended up going for the bigger EV6, and 8 months later our petrol car barely gets used. Even on long journey's…just a tiny bit of planning ahead and the range anxiety is a non issue.

    Biggest challenge was positioning of the home charger, but got sorted in the end. Everything else, from overnight charging on lower tariffs, to after sales customer service, totally slick.

    For what it’s worth, my advice is jump on the scheme and jump on the EV6.

    Ferrari SF90 or 296!! Had a drive in the latter a few weeks back, managed about 15 miles on electric.

    SF90 a proper V8 beast and similar range.
  • Been potentially offered a Vauxhall Grandland electric by work. Reason it appealed initially is because it has capacity for 425 miles on a full charge. 

    Anyone got one on here? Or know anyone who has?

    The SF90 has been discontinued apart from a limited run XX, but they are all sold! A mate of mine has the 296 and although it's an astonishing car I just can't get my head around a V6 modern Ferrari! (I'll take a 60s Dino though).

    We‘ve had a Toyota RAV4 peh for just over 5 years now and we‘re really, really happy with it. It‘s comfortable, does all we want of it (including being able to tow our trailer with up to 750kg) and has an overall consumption of 5.1l/100km (55.4mpg). Despite a 2.5.l petrol engine she uses about 1.5 litres less per 100km than the 2.0l diesel I had before.
  • Reading this thread as a bit of an outsider , it does seem that car users don't seem to get it!

    ICEs should be illegal in the same way pouring shit into water that is likely to be drunk or swam in should be illegal. 

    Consulting with people and companies that do these things is rather pointless. They will obviously have no "appetite for change" and prefer that it were legal.

    Obviously, a bit of warning is reasonable to give manufacturers and users a chance to switch over but if they refuse or can't do it that's tough.

    If the government could genuinely just say that the sale of new ICEs will be illegal from 2030, things would start changing fucking quickly!

    Petrol stations would start removing pumps and offering competitively priced fast recharging instead.

    Houses without installed charging points would begin to fall.

    Prices of ICEs would initially rise but then fall as people worried about where to fill them on shorter journeys.

    None of this will happen while governments keep kicking the can down the road and nobody actually believes any thing they say!

    And just for clarity, I don't really care that much about the climate. I think nuclear war is much more a threat than the effects from global warming but I'm seventy years old so I don't really give a fuck anyway. :)

    I buy and drive ICE's and will continue to do so until they become too expensive or illegal.

    ice = I.C.E. = Internal Combustion Engine
    It could perhaps have been expressed a touch more clearly, I had to look twice.
    I love a two-stroke outboard myself.

    It's been about 3 months in with  the electric car.
    Easily doing 200 mile round trip to the office a few times a week no problems or dramas.
    Car is so far flawless, very easy to manage and really comfortable.  For a brand new car the least amount of issues I have ever had (touch wood).
    New tech is surprisingly good. Self driving is brilliant on motorway although have to leave hands on wheel but even so makes life easier.
    Only charged on superchargers 3 times, the rest at home or at work and savings have been just as expected.
    Worse thing has been ordering too much tat from AliExpress, although it's so cheap doesn't really matter, but the garage is filling up with it. 😁
