This isn't really a surprise tho is it?Chunes said:Wondered how his season had gone. After joining Cardiff in Jan, Jonny only started one game and finished the season having played 180 minutes.

Yesterday's man.Would have liked to have seen Williams play under Adkins - imagine he is the ideal manager for Johnny. Shame.
There won't be any room in the squad for bodies that can't (or minds that won't) sustain 95 minute games, 4 or 5 times a month2 -
Inniss off then is he?Billy_Mix said:

Derby got one point in their last games and sky had the cheek to say what a great job Rooney has done in keeping them upCovered End said:0 -
Loved Williams but despite this he’s a reminder of the bad old days when we could only sign someone of his calibre because they come with injuries. We’ve moved on from this now.3

He didn't wear decent boots or shin guards. Was always going to get injured.wmcf123 said:
Bowyer brought as much out of Williams as anyone ever has . Sadly his weak body doesn’t allow him to play well for any length of timearny23394 said:Would have liked to have seen Williams play under Adkins - imagine he is the ideal manager for Johnny. Shame.
I expect the squad will see bigger players in future.2 -
Rooney deserves another season with Derby after the great job he has done. I just hope they can afford his wages.Todds_right_hook said:Covered End said:

How often did he have a 'shin injury'?Crusty54 said:

His shin pads were low because that's where contact is made, there's little to no need for bigger shin pads really. Boots are all decent enough now, sure they can increase the risk of foot injuries, but how many foot injuries did he have with us?

Cullen, aribo, gallagher and Pratley brought as much out of Williams as anyone ever has. They gave him the ball, space and back up. It’s a team game and when you are a lightweight player that likes to dribble the ball in tight spaces it’s all about the quality of the backup you’ve got around you.wmcf123 said:

I like Williams as a person and hope he succeeds in the future. As a footballer I find him frustrating to watch and his effectiveness for me is limited.10

Just been released.0

no surprise .. I suspect he'll end up somewhere like Newport, Plymouth, Morecambe, Forest Green .. he'll still be around for a while yetWelshAddick said:Just been released.0 -
more likely Gillingham.1

Would take him back in a heartbeat. Has the ability to rip it up in League One under a better man manager in Adkins.12
-
It never really happens though does it. He's obviously a good player but I can't remember him single handedly turning a game around for us. Cullen, Gallagher and Aribo did that regularly for us.4

Bowyer’s man management looked good enough to me when Williams was ripping the championship a new one at the start of last season. Sadly JW is weak of body; I suspect he’ll retire after the Euroscafctom said:Would take him back in a heartbeat. Has the ability to rip it up in League One under a better man manager in Adkins.2 -
Imagine Williams had never played for us, and the first signing of Sandgaard's regime was an attacking midfielder who has scored 5 goals in 10 years, with a terrible injury record, who cannot complete 90 minutes of football even when fully fit, and most importantly, fails the height test at 5'6.
I'd be buzzing, wouldn't you

Unless it was some sort of pay as you play or a seriously low wage topped up by appearance bonuses I would probably not bring him back.0
-
Being a lovely bloke just isn’t enough I’m afraid.6

I always think horses for courses, you never saw Nobby Stiles dribble past 3 men and take the net out from 30 yards, you never saw Bobby Charlton go crashing into tackles.I know the game has changed and players have to add things to their game, but Jonny ,if played correctley could be a game changer, yes make him do more off the ball, but dont ask him to clatter people like Bowyer wanted.I personally was sorry to see him go and would like to see him back .6
-
I like him but not for me, we should have the budget and ambition to do better. Let another club gamble on him staying fit and adding more goals/assists to his game. He’s 27 now and never made 30 league appearances in one season.5

He did for me look good enough in the championship and even last season when played.0 -
If he was part of the squad, I'd be happy - if he was a marquee signing, I'd be worried.0

I don't want him back, or Cousins or any other former player. Nothing to do with ability or fitness - I just don't think that going back and signing former players is a very good idea.
Adkins is Sandgaard's choice of manager, he was appointed because they seem to share a vision and a model for progressing the club and to me that means we draw a line under the past few years and make a completely fresh start.
No going back to former players. A brand new start with no baggage attached.7 -
The Charlton Life scouting network must have set some awesome filters in Championship Manager back in the day!2

What if we signed Cullen or Bielik or Bauer or any number of previous players that are significant improvements on what we have? Players that have and are doing it in the league above and are still well within prime.
If those players that improve us and want to sign are available, then sign them.12 -
Now I'll start by saying that I don't agree with how Bowyer handled things with the players last season, he was definitely too harsh and too public. However, it's very interesting to see what's happened with the players that he couldn't find a place for that some fans were begging to see get a run of games.Jonny has now been released by Cardiff having not really made much of an impact a league up and he'll probably be looking around L1 again, or signing for a team as a back-up impact player, which is what he was for us.We all know the sad situation with Maddison, and now he's playing non-league and hopefully getting help with his health.Deji didn't play a single minute for Adkins before being released and is now looking for a club. All capable players on their day but it just seems like their day isn't coming around enough anymore and more teams than just us are seeing it. I wonder where they will all end up, but I don't think it will be anywhere near the level we want to be at going forward. Having said that, I'd love if we re-signed Jonny for the squad just because he's lovely.5
