If you saw the Sunderland Pompey game afterwards sky were already saying Sunderland are at Wembley of course I think we will get there but a bit of respect for Doncaster marquis is one of the most prolific in this league for the record I thought Donnie were wank today but they will be at it from the off expect them diving at every oppotunity and some of ours can get a bit fired up it’s the playoffs anything can happen
Due to living down under, I have barely seen us play 'live' this season, but would make the following brief observations.
In and out of possession we looked a cut above them, and surely there can't have been many better centre back trio's fielded in League One than Bielik, Bauer and Sarr?
Didn't think anyone really stood out for them, but from our point of view, at least eight of that starting XI would be at home in the Championship - Phillips, Bauer, Bielik, Sarr, Cullen, Aribo, Morgan and Taylor.
Would make us strong favourites at home, but would be more confident if we had a bit more strike power from the bench - finishing the season with two fit strikers is a big worry.
Special mention for the management team, who have had so much shit to deal with off the pitch, yet have delivered a 3rd placed finish and a well drilled, professional and united team, who look to have found form at the right time.
We’re 1 up at half time, we need to finish the job on Friday, can remember beating Swindon 3-1 away in the league cup many moons ago and not going through.
I rate him as a manager and they’ve shown they were a decent team, but I’m not really sure I agree with his comments about their second half performance. They looked a little out of ideas given how defensive we went

Bauer yet again overlooked. Nullified Marquis and was dominant in the air. My MOTM.
Felt that we didn't play as well as we can but have to give credit to Donny for sticking to it.
As others have said, the lack of a willing runner once Parker went down with cramp meant we did have an out ball and so allowed them to put us under pressure, resulting in a slightly fortunate late goal.
I thought a big factor was the ref in keeping them in it. He is clearly somebody who never kicked a ball in anger in his life. I could give him a couple of tips - No 1. When you have a player like Taylor, who is very strong, defenders have to foul him. Now not every challenge on Taylor was a foul, but quite a few were and the ref didn't give us one. It is unfair that some people are stronger than others but it is life! No 2, When a player tries to run through a wall of players, he is generally not going to get through. This is not because he has been fouled, but because he is trying to run through a wall of players.
Absolutely loved yesterday, the performance was professional and we were unfortunate to concede the late consolation, albeit was probably coming as we were so deep.
Atmosphere was the best I’ve been in and my voice has not recovered yet, I am still very ‘husky’ like this morning. Had to be careful after celebrating the second goal and going completely mental, felt my heart too much so calmed down, but am so happy and proud of the players, staff and supporters. Let’s get The Valley rocking Friday night and push our fantastic team onto victory.
We desperately missed Parker when he came off. He worked really hard and deserved to score. I am not sure how far away Vetokele is but let’s hope he is not far at all and can hopefully make the bench, if not, get him ready for 26th May.
Personally I would’ve brought on Williams for Parker as he would’ve been able to link play between defending and attacking better, we could’ve had Aribo dropped further back as he makes some crucial tackles sometimes with his long legs and he is still decent in the air. One of his strengths is winning the ball deep and driving forward, he was unable to do that in his more advanced role after the change. Williams would have had more energy and helped us keep the ball higher up the pitch. I understand the experience of Pearce and he is important and a leader for the team, his organisation is key, but all it done was invite Doncaster further forward as the only available defender who wasn’t on the pitch was Page. I believe the balance of the side was lost when that decision was made. However, we won the game and are taking a lead back to The Valley, we have got to be so happy with that.
Drive back yesterday was okay, got home at 18:15. Was far busier than driving up on the Saturday but overall it was so, so worth it.

Aribo has telescopic legs, how he got the ball off the oppo was unreal at times .
brilliant atmosphere from the away fans , we’ve got a personality boooooom , I was shattered after the 2nd goal , throwing my little 7 year old about, looping and going batshit crazy , great times .
thought we didn’t play particularly well but did a job , can’t see Donny being that impotent again .
saw fanny and touched her hand on the way out , it felt surreal , a dream , a packed happy away end , reaching out and touching a real life away Charlton goddess , the stuff dreams are made of !
only complaint of the day is how shit Sunday and prolly a few Charlton drivers are, A1 too many punters dawdling in the outside lane , put your foot down and overtake and then get out the way , I had a 7 year old desperate for a dump and it must have been at the longest gap between the very regular service stations along that road on the way home , thankfully we made it just in time !

Couldn’t be more right with the drivers on the A1(M) yesterday. Went in the left hand lane and passed a whole load of cars because they were coasting at just below 60mph for a while, all because they all wanted to be on the outside lane. I know it’s not great or recommended, but when people are not driving as they should be or leaving the necessary space between cars, sometimes going in the left hand lane to essentially undertake is needed for your own and others safety. So many poor drivers but in the end it didn’t matter, got home safe and sound.
Firstly the timings worked well - Danny's plane arrived on time and we got to Donny around 11.00. Finally managed to (double) park in the last car park and walking to the ground the atmosphere could be felt. Donny officials were brilliant, very helpful and welcoming.
Swift pint and then took our seats around 11.45. By the time the players came out the place was rocking, and stayed that way for 90 minutes - awesome away support.
To the game - most sport is about levels and we were one or two above Doncaster. Lyle had an effective game but I've seen him play better, and Parker worked his socks off giving Lyle a bit of space - as others have said when Parker went off we sort of lost our shape. The defence was impressive - their goal was a fluke. Naby is growing into a legend and was fault free, and Bauer probably still has Marquis in his back pocket! Bielik had a very good game also.
Finally, if Joe Aribo isn't the best player in the whole of League One then I know feck all about football. Pure class and quality.
Onwards to Friday - nervous but confident. Wembley beckons.
A bit late coming yo the party & most has already been said, but fwiw he's my twopenneth on yesterday.
Actually arrived early(ish) for the game so was in the ground by 11.50. Didn't realise we went 5 at the back until late on......Beliek is wasted as a CD & one of the reasons why we weren't so dominant in midfield was that we missed his driving runs. Morgan grew into the game & set up both goals so don't know why he was subbed so early on. Pearce for Parker was an awful decision.....at least put on a midfielder for Christ sake. Williams would have been my choice. Yes, RD left us chronically short up front but you HAVE to have striking options from the bench. I don't f**king care if you have to use an U23 or if Fosu has been shagging LB's missus......just play him.
I will post my player marks on the appropriate thread but just wanted to say 2 things. Aribo MOTM......and another numpty ref. Not just for not giving any fouls in Taylor's favour & unless I missed it the ref blatantly ignored a card for the player who hacked down Prately (?) by the touchline with about 10 mins to go. If that wasn't a card then, in the words of Ian Hislop, I'm a banana. Just hope Fridays ref is any better......oh wait, it's that other numpty who didn't send off the Luton keeper. Great !

Bauer's late foul on Marquis in the first half was the only booking of the match - Reckon that was only because the whinging little bastard was pushing for a card to be given - Bloke didnt shut up moaning all game!!
Pratley did well and helped get us over the line (remember...we did win 2-1)
Doncaster were always going to have periods of promise...even we managed that at home to Shrewsbury last season. We controlled long periods but they hit the side netting, the bar and Phillips made one excellent save. Friday will be another tight affair and that's the nature of the play-offs...the best teams playing each other.
As long as the overall performance is good enough, then that should be good enough and it was a very decent away performance yesterday. The team looked fit, sharp and our in-form goal-scorers both kept their scoring run going.
LB may well freshen it a bit on Friday and I can see Williams starting instead of Morgan (who was good 1st half yesterday).
Another great away day - a trouble-free three hour drive each way, glorious sunshine, tremendous support for the team and a first leg lead to bring back to The Valley.
Their late goal took a little of the shine off an otherwise perfect day but Charlton were by far the better team and our quality in midfield and in the final third was there for all to see.
Ironically, I thought that Donny had their best spell of the game just before we scored and I was worried that they were finding too much space in advanced positions in central midfield. The two quick goals left them shell shocked and we were then dominant, with some lovely combinations and long crossfield passing to switch the play. Albie Morgan drew an excellent save from their keeper with a thunderbolt and Josh Parker went close.
We adopted a slightly more conservative approach in the second half and kept Donny at bay fairly comfortably. We found ourselves hamstrung, however, when Parker had to go off, as it left Lyle more isolated, there were less opportunities for an ‘out ball’ and we got pushed deeper as a result. Be that as it may, the two substitutes, Pratley and Pearce, both did well and we still managed to create opportunities, largely through the mesmerising skills of Joe Aribo. Cullen’s header drew a save from their keeper but the best chance came just before they scored, when Lyle just failed to get his head onto a lovely chip from Joe in front of a gaping net. If that had gone in, we would have been basking in a perfect away performance and the tie would have been over.
In fairness to them, Donny kept probing and toiling away in the second half, albeit without a great deal of conviction, as both sides began to tire in the heat. Lacking quality in the final third, they got lucky with the heavily deflected cross to give them some hope for the second leg. Privately, I think they’ll have seen that as an unexpected bonus.

Marquis - who cut a frustrated figure throughout - got no change whatsoever out of him or Naby, whilst both full backs were impressive against the tricky Leeds loanee, Mallik Wilks. When Pratley came on, he did precisely the job required of him in getting the foot in, breaking up play and drawing the odd free kick in order to eat up time and prevent Donny generating any momentum.

A Donny supporter was telling me before kick off that they’d only sold about 700 tickets and I can’t see them shifting too many more after that first leg result. If his figure is accurate, they’ll probably only bring about 1,000 down for the return.
Friday night has the makings of a memorable occasion in front of a packed Valley. I do not expect our skillful and streetwise team to do anything other than finish the job, hopefully in some style but, if not, a 0-0 will suffice.
If Igor was fit for Friday, I wouldn't drop Parker. He was excellent today.
The bottom line is Igor, if fit, is more likely to score than Josh Parker. As well as Parker played he should've done better with that header. I have never been keen on non scoring Strikers because sooner or later it will cost you big time. Josh put in a great shift today but at home we need to be clinical.
The ball for the header was behind him so I thought he did very well to get it anywhere near the goal.
I would suggest if Igor is fit, put him on the bench and give him a run out for the last ten to fifteen minutes or earlier if we need a goal. It would be better to have him available for Wembley if there's the slightest risk of him breaking down again if brought back too quickly. I suspect, however, he's done for the season and therefore the rest of his Charlton career.

It would be better to have him available for Wembley if there's the slightest risk of him breaking down again if brought back too quickly. I suspect, however, he's done for the season and therefore the rest of his Charlton career.

all we have to do is not lose and its wembley for us 2-1 to us they go 1 up early on and we demolish and outplay them 2nd half.
