Downloaded it yesterday, had a quick look at the player updates for Charlton and in the premier league.
The squad doesn’t look that bad and could be a good club to manage on FM. Every player is rated highly for the league 1 level, but there isn’t enough depth to it.
Managing the wage bill will be he hardest part as there is not a lot of room to maneuver (expect from Lookman & Gomez clauses).
Grant has been given a big upgrade, as well as Alfie Morgan who has premier league potential on mine.
I usually don’t bother with starting a proper save until the full game is released.
Not been too impressed by the announced new features so far. Obviously I'll still buy it and play it for an entire year until the next one comes out and love it, but I would have preferred fewer overhauls of colour schemes and more nuance. I can't handle the same press conferences from 5 years ago ('it's been an unusually quiet deadline day this year hasn't it?' NO YOU SAY THAT EVERY YEAR) and the transfer fees going haywire every season. Bid 3.5m for a backup goalkeeper at Everton valued at 775k. They quoted me 119m. Every Dutch and Portuguese youth player is valued at around 200k but they always want over 100m for them. I really can't be arsed spending my afternoon holding down the plus button on the value slider until it breaks into insane money territory so they should either fix the valuations or have clubs actually tell you a ballpark figure for players more often. I also get exhausted by signing players and then having them kick off in the press after 6 months because they want a better contract as well. It's not that I hate the mechanic of players asking for new deals, it's that I hate the mechanic of 14 players asking for new deals in a 2 month period.
Maybe they have fixed all this stuff, but I do feel like recently they've given up on tweaking the important stuff in favour of making one big headline change. What kind of monster runs their own training sessions anyway??
Training is the shittest thing they could improve and everyone I know that plays the game employs better coaches and let’s them crack on.
training has needed an overhaul for years, am i the only one that enjoyed championship manager when you could select what excercises your team would do for each time slot throughout the week?
Gonna wait a bit to buy i think, then will start a game as dulwich hamlet, as its their first time officially playable on the game without add ons
I've got to admit that I find all the agent stuff, press conferences, in depth training, even the detailed contract negotiation all to be annoying admin - I just want to wheel and deal and play the games... which all sports franchies seem to be moving away from (e.g. FIFA, Madden...) - so it seems that I'm in the minority.
Got to admit, I do also go a bit Stan Kroenke and try to run at a massive profit and hoard money - quite enjoy that part.
In the past doing my own press conferences actually worked against me when I could be arsed to do them... 3-0 up at HT and I'd enthusiastically say "keep it up"... oh no, big mistake - floods of tears in the dressing room and a 4-3 loss. Cheers.
I let the assistant manager do the press conferences and tunnel interviews, doesn’t seem to make much difference compared to doing them myself.
I’ve also started my proper save, don’t see the point waiting for the full game. I holidayed for a season and reloaded until I got an interesting National League N/S club. Planning to take South Shields to the top playing horrible route one football all the way.
Shame there’s no option to grow the grass longer in the corners to hold up the ball and leave a mud bath in the middle of the pitch.
