Anti semitism

Labour in crisis? Or a SMEAR(tm) from the mainstream media elites?

Billy bragg’s Comments about Jews “have work to do” to get trust from Labour I thought was a bit bizarre and bordering on the anti Semitic. Also mcdonnel’s humourous Freudian slip about labour being anti racist and anti Semitic seems to have bought it back to the fore.

What can labour do to kill off this anti semitism label that seems to be following them around?

  • Long thread of examples for when people say "show me some evidence"

  • Shocking.

    Bordering?
  • I work for a council that has an anti racist policy that covers anti semitism as well. Without having to have a list of examples of what anti semitism is. The policy seems to work.
At the risk of being seen as anti semitic why does there need to be a separate policy?
  • Its all Daniel Levy's fault... oh!

I correct myself. I just checked on line and the Council has accepted the IHRA definition.
I can't remember us being told this or there being any updates to the policy though.

The only way we can try and defeat intolerance is when we start teaching children in schools about our colonial past, the The Slave Trade, the Civil Rights Movement in America, and the South African Apartheid, otherwise ignorance will continue to prevail.

Well he’s right but he has either deliberately or mistakenly omitted the holocaust from his little list.

I will watch this thread with great interest.

He’s also omitted the state sanctioned slavery which exists in Arab countries today - just as if not more important than things that have happened in the past.

He's also got history for writing some quite hateful stuff.

Interesting that he also doesn't mention teaching the Crusades whereby Islam had it's own go at colonialism. Yet more evidence of selective historical teachings and context.

Why does there need to be a separate, specific phrase is something I’ve always wondered. There’s no phrase (that I’m aware of) for being anti-Christian or anti-Catholic for example.

*Standard Charlton Life ‘no offence intended’ disclaimer. Just a question.

To be fair he talks about 'colonialism' which I assume is British and excludes German attrocities and modern Arab slavery. It would be nice to encompass historical horrors of all nations, but to fully understand our own would lead to students leaving school at 25ish.

It's interesting that the discussion has moved on to be about israel/palestine when my original question was concerning british jews, not jews in the middle east.

but to make things clear, you can be a zionist but be against the damaging policies of the israeli government.
  • I ve been a labour voter all my life and member for a lot of the time. I really don’t know how the party that has always been so inclusive and stood for common decency has arrived at this point.

Personally i believe its a lot to do with the media conspiracy nonsense that die hard corbyn supporters spout, its not a very big stretch to go from saying theres an elite liberal media controlling what we think to they're all funded by the unseen jew.

It is always moved to Israel because that is the "Whataboutery" of the Corbyn cult and because many in the cult see Jews and Israel as the same thing. Hence why the Labour party refused to accept the parts of the IHRC that covered accussing Jews of not being loyal to the UK or other country of residence.

The IHRC definition allows criticism of Israel before someone says it.

Maybe its omitted as we already teach about The holocaust at school?
  • Surprsed nobody has yet posted mention of the editorials jointly issued today by the three main Jewish newspapers on the matter.
    .
For me it is the most authoritative and damning condemnation yet of Corbyn's Labour on the issue.
