Saw Bromley vs Colchester. Lyle had 1 assist and 1 blocked shot. This may annoy fans with a certain mindset but he still has the guile, craftiness and nose for goal that we saw years ago. He has lost alittle pace. But lasted 60/65 mins or so. He helped out in defence, maybe lost one ball in hold up play that put Colchester under pressure. So if we are going to have one place in the squad for an "elderly striker" eg Lapado, Hylton then LT is a far better choice. I would prefer a young talent from PL, but we seem to have a space for a geriatric and he would be better than these recent choices.

right now I'd swap him for Gas 100%
Taylor and May upfront would have produced a few goals.
To be fair, he played for two clubs at this level last season and was rubbish for both.
Not fit, he had been on the sidelines for most of the time at N Forest, which was about 2-3 yrs?. Took time to get sharp and fit again. Both of those sides were poor, as are/were Colchester.

yes totally-for today- Gas will improve ( we live in hope).

Just like a diminutive RB who was our club captain but because he wasn't "needed" and he is one of the good ol' boys we welcome him back

Sorry, but that is not the same thing at all. I have already spoken to Chris, and he has promised to give me the real story of his departure and the way he was treated by the club at the time. I will be interviewing him shortly so that volume 3 of 'The Valiant 1000' will give a fair and balanced view of what happened.

Ok i'll wait until he gives his side of the story, he probably hasn't had a chance to tell his side yet after all its only been............. 5 years

But you were advocating for us to sign him...
Looking at this objectively (without bias) where would he fit in?
He isn’t an up and coming anymore, he is 34?!
We are already on Chuks (despite being younger), the most that he would be offered is a one year deal, and if he doesn't perform then fans will be banging on to get him released.
Then if you look in the free agent market you have former players such as Wickham and Waghorn who offer a better alternative than Taylor.
Most importantly he has a few year left of his football career so we don't want to prevent him for finding a better club.

He doesn't fit in. And I don't get why a binary choice between Hylton and and Lyle is being tabled. Don't want either of them. Looks like Hylton isn't being renewed anyway.

Exactly, there's been two years or so of various people saying we should re-sign Taylor as he's possibly better than some of the strikers we've signed since Taylor left.
What they always ignore is the third option - trying to find a different striker who is both better than those we've got already, and also isn't a 34-year-old who has proven that we can't rely on him actually fulfilling his contract if it doesn't suit him.
Hylton being a bit of a crap signing doesn't make Lyle Taylor a good one.

To be fair my original comment included Hylton (but then realised he is older than Taylor 😅).
I put a * everytime anyone talks about Hylton being released (since lets be honest he has primary come here to do his coaching badges/get experience). This then gets into a discussion about should the manager be able to choose his own coaching staff.

Unbelievable comments about him possibly returning, the bloke is an utter Cnut for what he did and should never ever be considered for a return. Most of the fam base would simply boo him so no point whatsoever!

He did kind of address it in this article at the time. Points you can take from it: was looking for a way out, didn't work out and the game time (in his mind) didn't justify staying on. * he did say “I’d never want to talk bad on the club because I loved my time there. The club was brilliant for me and I did well for the club" in the article, so do not know if this is the same stuff you're alluding to?
Be the judge yourself (this is his last games for the club):
I get the point why he left, however I also understand he was in the unique position of having family in the area. (not many players who played on were).
Wouldn't call him a club legend as a result, but definitely a cult hero status, and glad to have him back. Again Taylor doesn't offer anything other than playing (no coaching badges as far as I am aware), and if he were to come back in that capacity I would expect 10 goals before the end of the season (otherwise what are we paying money for?) and this is a lot to ask from a 34 year old.

I've read through but he doesn't address it though and unless it turns out Bowyer, et al lied about him, there really is no difference except tat Taylor was more important to the team but you know he is one of us and one of the good ol' boys so we cut him some slack.

I'll never forgot though (after lockdown when we went back), all the times they would show his goals on the big screen everyone started booing them. I have seen players come back and getting booed but not that.
Think the major difference between the two is Solly never went on and on about it, but he would (which doesn't really help matters). In hindsight we should of sold him of (the previous summer) and tried to get Toney.
