  • At the risk of repeating myself and being accused of being Lyle Taylor again, Taylor did what he did, he should of played the 4 games he was in contract for and then stopped playing. Fans would of been more understanding if he had, that all said he was a contributing factor to us getting relegated but IMHO I dont think he would of kept us up singlehandedly that season he was alright for us at championship but nothing special and had been injured aswell. I think losing Gallagher was the biggest loss as when he left we lacked creativity and drive in the midfield.

Would we have had a better chance with Taylor ? Yes but is it nailed on survival ? No. He did what he did, he burnt his bridges but im certainly not wasting any time or energy putting level of hate towards him. Its time to move on.

We can’t, move, we want to, but it just hurts to much. It’s easy to say it, but just one goal could have meant we wouldn’t be where we are today. In another parallel universe where Lyle played, we could be in the Premier by now.

I thinks it’s time us, and those who cannot get over the loss of May receive some support. A therapy group, where we can sit down and talk it through. A bring an end to the recurring thoughts we have about the goals “They would have scored”.
  • Seen the very brief highlights of the game after my post above.Got to say that his contribution in build up play was excellent and awareness of space in the penalty area ...that of seasoned pro with an instinct for goals. He does look like he carries abit more weight but still has movement
So the question is would LT offer more to CAFC than Danny Hylton?
The answer is as plain as the goals scored tally.

    Scoham- love that clip!

Well done him. Bossing it at the bottom of L2 after failing at 2x L1 clubs last season.

Yes -unfit for the short Wycombe stint
Cambridge- started scoring but unluckily sent off for a 50/50 incident. I expect you'll mock me but then I bet you won't bother to watch it. Cambridge fans took against him for that. Irrational  (but due to the pressure of league position)
Colchester- fitter and scoring, good build up play in a side that started the season on the poorer end of the scale. He does look like he's carrying abit more weight. But look at his last goal -sat the defender on his backside before scoring.Class.

It comes down to this- if you want a rat catcher -why not get the best you can afford?
Still waiting to hear/see what Hylton offers.

Gilbey does well in L2, as does Jack Payne, should we sign them as well...?
  • Should be in action tonight v arsenal u21s. Can't find scorer odds for him but expect he'll deliver, especially given recent form.
Unused sub last night. Back in action Saturday at home to Bradford.

Even if he does then there are better (younger) forwards that would offer more to CAFC than Lyle Taylor.

Don't want him back as a coach, so for that reason Danny Hylton offers more (they are only a year apart age wise).
  • Taylor is for now a league 2 striker. He will never play at a higher level again. Only going lower from here on in. Maybe he can join that other waste  of space Bonne next season in the Conference.

    I'm sure he'll worry about that , being 34.

    Just to summarise:

Lyle Taylor left the junior school of Charlton Athletic to go to the big Senior school of Nottingham Forest. Not straight away but without saying goodbye and leaving the school bereft as they had no replacement for him.
32 goals in 63 games was exceptional and Lyle went from hero to zero and from Lyle Taylor baby to Lyle Taylor snake as well as Cuxx.

He was hardly every picked for his Forest school team as other big boys like the mature boy with the long beard Grabban were ahead of him. 7 in 57 app over the 3 years.

Lyle left the senior school to go a really bad Junior school in Birmingham with an old headmaster of Taylor's being there and he scored 5 in 14.

From there Taylor went to Wycombe Infants but couldn't settle and 0 in 7 was the result in the exams.

Cambridge next but not the university as no one would take that punt on him ! But the Infant school where he scored 3 in 14 in the exams.

Next, on to the reception class in Colchester where young 34 year old Taylor has pulled his socks up and has 5 in 11 and received a gold star.

To be continued when Lyle leaves to go back to nursery school...

Taylor way better than Bonne at any point in time past , present and future. You are letting emotion cloud your judgement.
  • Also worth remembering that Hylton is there primarily because Jones owes him big time.  Watching him coach TC through his goal against Chelsea u21s was very good to see. If that had been Taylor instead of telling him what run to make he would have been pointing out all the nearest available emergency exits

Don't be that hard on Charlton. You have to consider he had a 10 yr career before us, so really hard to look at us as the Junior School (if any team that fits that label it is AFC Wimbledon). Forest are the third team he has played for at lower league level team that went onto the Premier League, without him.* (probably says something about his ability/personality of the guy). Point being he was a decent Football League player (championship max). Could off been another Mendonca, for us, but decided to be big headed.
*-Not sure you can count it if he didn't make the PL squad.

Fair but the thought of Taylor never playing outside of League Two is quite funny.

  • Two more goals for Lyle in the Vertue Cup. I think thats 5 in the league and 2 in the Cup.

Nice little earner for me that one. Clearly motivated against a former club. Shame the hatrick was out of his reach.

You’re worse than me updating the Alfie May thread!

Don’t blow that 45 pence profit all at once!
Sure not to. I see it as 10 more bets to play with/invest in future LT goals :)
