Was thinking last night about world exposure, bar the US President inauguration, what other regular non-sporting, non-entertainment world events around the globe attract such a sizeable world audience outside of our royal events (weddings, jubilee etc)?
None.
Does that indicate support for, or a vindication of, having an un-elected, birthright Head of State? No, of course not. It's pure voyeurism - an interest in history, pomp, ceremony and above all celebrity. In the history of photography the Queen is the most photographed person in the world (it helps she's been around for so long of course). She is the world's most famous person.
It does no harm in portraying Britain to the world and helps tourism, no doubt.

Kumbh Mela has attracted a crowd in excess of the UK population.
The Arba'een Pilgrimage takes place every year in Iraq and attracts crowds of up to 30 million.
The funeral of Tamil leader Conjeevaram Natarajan Annadurai drew 15 million people.
The Pope gets good gates - more than 6 million turned up in Manila to see him three years ago.
5 million turned up to a Rally in Istanbul in 2016.
More than 3.5 million pilgrims join the annual Hajj to Mecca.
There were 3 million people at the Queen's Coronation.

Also, Charlton Athletic regularly draw between 6,000 - 9,000.
Spoke to lots of my students today here about it and they virtually all watched it, and enjoyed it. Can't imagine many British teenagers would be interested in a Spanish royal wedding! Goes to show the popularity of, or at least the level of interest in the British Royal family abroad.

Imagine first man on Mars will break a few records.
What frame is that, that the flag is drapped over? Was it supplied by the police and did they also cover it with the flag too?

So none of the above, basically.
Miss World? I'd tune in for that!
I can’t think of many events that will haveuniversal worldwide coverage.
Seems to have gone well, good luck to them both.
