As good as Pearce played, was anyone else going mad when he tried to burst out of defence and make a run forward with just minutes to go?!
No, I think he's just well aware that at this level no team has the technical ability to sit back and defend a lead. Every time we tried it this season (including yesterday) we got into troubles... My only wish is that he'd share this knowledge with our animated manager...
Regarding the Dodoo comments. I said after last weeks game that I thought he looked a bit of a donkey. On the other side I also said he took his goal well. From what I saw today he doesn't seem to fit in with the team which is made up of players who are comfortable on the ball and can control and make a pass. The juries still out for me but from what I've seen so far (apart from the goal) I don't think he's going to cut it. My opinion of course and it would be great if he proved me wrong but I just cant see it. To give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he's still settling in.
Regarding the crowd whilst I expected better if you compare to the Southend home game in April then as well as having an additional 1500 paying home supporters the big difference is that the season ticket holders are turning up - I reckon there was no more than 6000 home fans at the game in April.
When I go to the Wigan game on Tuesday I would have matched the number of home games I went to last season...
I'm still in the Roland Out club but this team, leadership and atmosphere is like chalk and cheese from the last 2 seasons.
Great game, great goals. Good atmosphere. Nothing to add to comments above.
The attendance should make those who think people will soon come back in numbers wake up and smell the coffee though. There were under 11,000 home supporters for a sixth straight home win. How many Tuesday night? Will the gate even make five figures? It may be a stretch if Wigan bring about 300.
Yes Airman it does look like there are numbers in the 1000s who are prepared to stay away while the Belgians are in charge. They said they are staying away and they are. Huge respect to them, someone said earlier in the week it's probably only a few hundred

Nahhhh. Most of them aren't there because of the division and lack of success. Guarantee you that if Roland took Charlton to the prem those seats wouldn't be empty.
3 days on the lash at Lords meant I missed out on another Valley success.
Friday it piddled down in the morning so had a session in the pub and usual beers in the ground and who should be sitting in our seats as we returned smashed out of our nuts late Friday afternoon , none other than Alan Smith ex palace manager . He was a nice fella and took our drunken chants of stand up if you hate palace and sha la la la in good spirit and there was some added banter with some Gills and Oxford fans close by in the Upper Edrich Stand .
I'll be happy with 4 points from Wigan and Gills but that's prolly a bit too greedy .
Anyway we know this league is pony and there for the taking .

Season ticket sales and average attendance were much higher in the recent League 1 seasons before Roland.
Second part of course if we're in the Prem we'll sell more tickets.
First game of the season today. Very impressed with the starting 11. They look hungry and they look like a team that know they have the ability to win the league. My worry is the depth of the squad. You look at the bench and we have no like for like quality. We either need a relatively injury free season or we are going to struggle over the Xmas period and after.

You really don't know what you are talking about. If Roland takes Charlton to the Premier League it will be because he has totally changed the way that he runs the club and of course the crowds would return. I don't see any sign that Roland has changed. So we've won a few games and people are saying that the football is good. Let's see what happens in the January transfer window (previous seasons haven't been good) and see where we are at the end of the season. He needs to get us back to the division that we were in when he bought us before anyone can think of the Prem. I think too many people are getting carried away by a tiny bit of success after three and a half years of dross.
I don't think anyone is getting carried away , the teams in form playing well , scoring goals, and there's not a negative atmosphere within the ground due to this,
The thing about two shit chalets and his plan for cafc is that he don't give two shits if the fans are there or not
As was said this week
Go if you want to Stay away if you want to Buy from the club shop and kiosks if you want to Don't buy if you don't want to
It really is that simple
Last week at Oldham I got the cafc bug back it was reinforced yesterday being in the white swan having a social , introducing my youngest into football that We are still a special club who hopefully in the cycle of football are coming back around
Great game, great goals. Good atmosphere. Nothing to add to comments above.

Some would return, of course. The point is, people are rightly continuing to protest by staying away or only attending like me if a spare ticket is there. IF Roland and his accomplices had taken Charlton more seriously from the off then none of this would be relevant. The facts are, 7 managers and a relegation from what was a relatively stable Championship club. Yes he has righted some wrongs, pitch was in a real state when he took over and we have signed some good players, Kashi & JBJ. BUT he has made some horrific mistakes, selling Yann, removing SCP and bringing in a number of players who were not good enough, to name a few. Oh and hasn't he been absent himself at The Valley for nearly 3 years ?! What kind of serious owner would serve his own absence like this ?
I will continue to support the team at away games but hope/pray if we get promoted that RD sells.
On yesterday, thought we overcame a stubborn Southend relatively well. Kashi is a major plus and the newbies, Clarke and Fosu looked very good acquisitions. Hopefully the team will maintain this run and come Spring 2018, we are in a comfortable promotion spot and new investors are in negotiations.
I think it always felt we had another gear, and we found it when we scored our two goals. If we are going to be successful, we have to be able to win games like this when we haven't got it all our own way - which we should credit Southend for. I think we deserved the points also so all good.
A good three points against a decent side who I would expect to be around the play off positions at the end of the season.
Tight and even match and the first goal was going to be key. Great cross from Solly and good header from Magennis. Fantastic strike from Holmes. Bit sweaty after they pulled one back, but bar one scare hung in.
Play like that and have good luck with injuries, then top 2 place is ours. If not, then heads will roll.
Regarding the Dodoo comments. I said after last weeks game that I thought he looked a bit of a donkey. On the other side I also said he took his goal well. Agree with this, I thought Dodoo looked dreadful. Still don't understand why we've sent youngsters out on loan and brought Dodoo in. In terms of home debut appearances he looked worse that Polish Pete.
Still it was only a few minutes and hope I'm wrong.
Crazy game but entertaing...as usual we made a meal out of nothing...they were just a hoof ball outfit and it was a good job we were up when their goal happened.....slicker teams will unlock us.
I didn't see too much hoof ball and slick isn't really a term most would use in the third tier of English football. But I suppose we all see different things and have different opinions.
I thought Southend started out with hoofball which, as @redlanered said to me at the time, could be a way to play against us as it bypasses our rather good midfield, but then played much more on the deck.

Whose head though? It will probably be Robinsons but we all know whose it should be.

With Marshall and Reeves on the bench then midfield is sorted. I personally think Konsa might be earmarked for Kashi cover. Page will cover Dasilva, we don't know how ell though. Dijksteel can cover Solly, possibly also Defensive midfield?.
Cover for Magennis? Dodo looks likes he's a work in progress to me. Looks very short of match practice. CF cover, there's the weakness.

Thanks... What i said, good to see someone else actually watched the game.
First game of the season for me and possibly the last for some time.
First of all it was great to be back - boy to I miss my fortnightly visits to The Valley.
As far as the game goes, was impressed in the way Brown set up his side in an attempt to spoil our game but his long ball tactic of hoofing it up to Ranger (who I expected a lot more from) didn't work as both Bauer and Pearce had him in their pockets the whole game. They've got two or three really neat hardworking players and should do relatively well this season. Rumours are that Josh Wright is heading their way as well.
All that said, we were by far the better side and when we got our quick, slick passing game working, not many teams in this League will be able to handle it. It was a pleasure to watch, especially with such confidence and composure on the ball. Neither Reeves or Marshall are going to be guaranteed a starting berth when they're back to fitness.
Of the 'new boys' I was really impressed with Fosu, who works really well with Solly and along with Clarke, caused Southend all sorts of problems down our right flank. Clarke also impressed with his work rate, speed and quality of pass and his ability to bring others into the game. Certainly the 'number 10' we've been missing for sometime. Kashi was superb in the holding roll and was unlucky not to score with his first half shot
Solly had the best game I've seen from him recently and the cross for the goal was perfect. Pearce was immense yesterday and again the best I've seen him play. Da Silva is very dangerous going forward but left us exposed a couple of times when he did so. He also got caught out of position twice in about 30 seconds in the first half, which I'm sure is just down to lack of experience.
Both Bauer and Magennis were good today, without excelling and I thought JFC had a fairly quiet and anonymous game.
My only slight grumbles, were that I actually thought Holmes had one of his poorer games that I've seen. His crossing was awful and their right back at one stage caused him to move over to the right hand side - then he goes and scores another wonder goal that we all know he's capable of - still, what do I know.
Amos, hmm. Had very little to do, but what he did do, was less than impressive and to be honest, reminded me a bit of Thuram, with his punching and lack of command in his box. I like my goalkeepers to have complete control of their box, big, loud, confident and wiping out everyone who gets in their way to collecting the ball. However, judging him on one game is unfair.
Without a doubt we are going to do well this season (comparatively), with some class players still to come in.
Fantastic day out with Addickted Junior and good to see some mates again.
The Oak may have had the last of our custom as they no longer do draught ale and provided possibly the worst pint of 'IPA' I've ever had.

Fosu is a talented lad but his inexperience shows at times. He really shouldn't be starting every week and once Marshall is fit I don't think he'll be in the side.
It may be that our midfield options overall are so much better than anyone else that we can overwhelm any issue that emerges up front, but we are far too dependent on Josh.
Great game, great goals. Good atmosphere. Nothing to add to comments above.

Watching in from afar at the moment, but I have been going to Charlton since I was 4 at the end of 1970. Not exactly a glory hunter and my favourite player will always be Colin Powell (sorry Kins!! )
I'm not going until the grinning liar is gone. Have some away games lined up when I am back and my 76 year old dad is even more adamant...he just can't stand liars and not when they are playing with his club.
Think what you like, but I'll be renewing my season ticket when they're gone and I know a lot of others who feel exactly the same.
Great to see yesterday's result and keeping the good run going. Long may it continue. COYRs!!
It wasn't about sitting back and defending a lead, there was just no need for him to burst forward. Pass to a teammate and stay in position, the game was almost done.
First home game this season & only 2nd one overall (Exeter & Plymouth). Not sure what all the fuss has been about as I thought we were a bit lucky to win & a draw was a fairer result. Didn't get going for 20 mins & Southend could have been a couple up by then - Nile Ranger missed an easy chance after more messing around at the back. Kashi played too many short balls that gets the defence into trouble - he did the same at Plymouth in the first half when we nearly let one in & soon it will cause us letting one in.
Being 2-0 up seems to be a disaster for us & we took our foot off the pedal again, only to be saved by some poor finishing by Southend. If we do the same on Tuesday night I can see out first defeat at home.
I don't want to sound like a sour puss & really very pleased we won & are up to second, but its early days and as curbs once said - don't get too down after a defeat & too up after a win.
Holmes, Clarke & Pearce all played well, Fosu not so good & Da Silva was run ragged in the first half & their winger had him for toast. Not enough time to judge Dodoo but wish we had a bit more experience to come on with 10-15 mins to go than him & RFH.
Agree with some of that but where oh where you think Charlton were "a bit lucky to win and a draw was a fairer result" from I really don't know. We played a very decent well set up team yesterday. Of course they are going to have chances. They didn't have as many as we did though and didn't convert as many either. The other thing is you say " Dasilva was run ragged and their winger had him for toast". I certainly didn't think that in any way and I don't think it's reflected in the four pages of comments here.
You are right to warn against getting carried away. It far too early for that but those early signs are positive and I doubt there will be six better teams than Charlton in this league. I have no views on Dodoo but cover for Josh is my only real concern. We need him fit until January and for a decent competition for him signed then.
Enjoyed my day. Met the voice, for the first time, that is @KillersBeard aka Terry Smith before the game for a quick chat. Had a bacon roll outside the ground, took a leisurely stroll into the East Stand and then enjoyed watching the game. First half we seemed a bit nervy but both sides had a few chances, very impressed with the link up play between DaSilva and Fosu down our left hand side. Baur and Pearce had their hands full with Ranger, what a man mountain he is!! Had a quick meet with Dr Kish at halftime on the concourse and we both said that the game could go either way, Southend always looked dangerous on the break. Second half we seemed to come out all guns blazing, great cross by Solly for Josh's goal quickly followed up by Ricky's shot, another great goal!! Southend made a few changes and their goal was always going to come, but after that we played as much possession footie as we could and saw the game out. With Marshall and Reeves to come into the side, I think we could have a good chance of getting out of this godforsaken League, BUT if we are in good place in January, RD will have to give KR the opportunity to strengthen the side for a final push, as the lack of back up strikers does bother me.
Great game, great goals. Good atmosphere. Nothing to add to comments above.

I have as much an idea of what I'm talking about as you do, thanks very much.
My post was in response to comments suggesting that because our attendance wasn't back to huge numbers after a good start to the season, that it proves people are boycotting the team still.
I was not saying Roland WILL take us to the prem. I was saying if he did then there would be very few consciencious objectors "fighting the good fight" by not going to the game.
So I'm sure the matchday attendance yesterday is slightly lower because some people are doing that, of course.
I'm equally sure others are staying away because of the many seasons of failure. The longer outside the prem the more will drop off.
I also know for a fact some are staying away because of the toxic atmosphere protestors were bringing to the match day.
And for those that click LOL on my posts like smart arses, you can go f*** yourselves with your pompous attitudes, as if your view on the club is much smarter than mine.
