I don't want to defend Robinson and I certainly don't want to defend the regime, but isn't there a risk of overanalysing every little thing he says?

Mate, didn't you get the memo? We hate him, therefore everything he says is dumb and Scouse.
    OR Scouse and dumb...
  • I find it a complete pisstake that Robinson keeps talking as though this season is a lost cause, and that he just needs to get the remaining games out of the way before he can completely rebuild the squad.

What am I, as a fan and season ticket holder, supposed to do with that information? Go and watch games where the results are largely pointless, featuring a set of players that won't be here next season? It feels a complete waste of time to me, and I suspect the squad feel the same.

    Cheers Robbo, you complete prat.

And repeat every 12 months.............don't renew your season ticket this time mate at least you can pick and chose your games and maybe save some money  .

Cheap shot, meaningless and no relation to what stig said.

Not worthy of your normal stuff.

I like the way he compares the CP first half season to now, "we finished 15th and looked what happened the following season", but forgets CP was backed by the owners and very few of the dead wood players were on long term contracts, so were easier to shift. To pay off the present dead wood players will take a good part of the budget if they can not be shifted permanently to other clubs.

Hate how he says "we" too!
He was a rival manager a team that time, for a team we were against to get promotion...

He wasn't any part of that success at all, so why keep linking yourself to it!
  • My particular schism is that I don't dislike Karl Robinson, and for some reason, at the moment he says something I find myself seeing where he's coming from...at least I think so.
The Grand Canyon of it all is the results. They have been pathetic and it is down to Karl Robinson to get his team to put points on the board, if he can't do that something will have to give.
I say all this recognising that Karl is yet another manager who has had inadequate support. He was steered on to a word about the boxing, but right now Karl is punching below his weight even with the injuries and suspensions.
  • Such woffle.

To be fair the man might be ok and a reasonably smart decent manager given time.

Just so desperate to save his skin though.

Feels the need to always explain things as though the press and media have him on a leash.
The press and even fans don't need to know the players have done a presentation and evaluated themselves.

It also sounds a bit embarrassing and child like.

You just do the talking on the pitch and win games.

    Anxiety issue with KR.

  • he goes on a lot about this holy grail of a football club, which im just not buying - good job as roly aint selling, it just all seems so fake he is here as its a job which pays a wage and that is it.
  • Do you honestly think the players sat down and produced a PP? I don't believe that for a second. More wanky waffle.

People can present without using power point

    1) Genuinely chuffed that you think I normally have a higher standard
    2) It was meant to poke lighthearted fun at the fact that some people seemingly don't like him because he's Scouse or because he talks a lot, and this goes back to when he was appointed. They are the minority, but I do agree with Stig that we're getting a little microcosmic in our criticisms of KR. This was not meant to be representative of everyone's criticism, including my own!
    3) Did I make up for it by posting a "Homer At Bat" clip?

Honestly, it was meant as a silly aside, not some sort of larger passive aggressive or subversive comment. And it's also completely hypocritical because if you go to the Shrews post match thread you can see me analyzing his post-match BBC interview in 20 second segments!

I think I've now put like 10,000x more thought and energy into this response than I did into my stupid joke.
  • He talks waffle

We lose badly he slags the players

Next day tries to praise the players

When we lose on Saturday what's he gonna say then?

Maybe good manager bad timing like Parky but he talks rubbish

What he sees as deadwood I see as demotivated players not wanting to play for him (Rojo and Watt aside)
  • This repeated referencing of Ian Wright, Robbie Fowler, Lee Bowyer and now Rio Ferdinand seems a bit like he's trying too hard to show he knows footballers who have played at the top to me.

    Agree!
Am i right in thinking both Wright & Fowler both worked under Robinson at MKD - but to no success (think bother were striker coaches?)

Ferdinand must be either extremely bored or hard up if he's helping out our kids- unless he's hoping they'll be here for his 'good start to the year'

Bowyers' just happy to be doing something rather than keeping warm in a macdonalds somewhere!
  • Interesting to compare SCP with KR.

Powell is cautious and this was apparent in so much that he did. He communicated carefully, never saying anything he might regret or have to contradict subsequently. He emphasised due diligence in player recruitment, checking character, as well as ability. Tactically he played 442, implementing it with priority attention given to discipline when out of possession.

Robinson speaks from the heart; he’s open and tells us more than we’ve experienced from any other manager in the era of media-dominated football. He expresses these views before he has reflected on them and so contradictions occur. Tactically he throws caution to the wind in his desire for his team to get on the front foot. He switched to 442 for Shrewsbury, but this was not a highly-disciplined 442 a la Powell.

Their styles are completely different and Robinson has been much criticised on this forum on matters of style. I can see why his way of communicating can grate, but I’d at least give him credit for seeing it as a manager’s responsibility to give the fans his take on what is going on. The criticism of his session with the players yesterday is, I think, mistaken. It is well accepted, not only in business, but also in teaching and in life generally, that if performance is unsatisfactory, then it is generally more effective to get the performers to evaluate what they did than to tell them their performance was inadequate. If they are objective in their assessment and recognise their short-comings, then a move to the next step of working out how to improve can be taken in an atmosphere of constructive agreement on what has to be tackled. If Robinson assessed the session correctly, then he achieved this.

Style is important if it upsets relationships with the players. Generally we only find that out indirectly through results after the manager is given a reasonable period and support in player arrivals and departures. As for Powell that means support in the summer and a few months next season. Whether that happens is in someone else’s hands, but I’d like to see him given that chance rather than yet another spin of the managerial wheel.

  • I am genuinely fascinated by what might get said if we lose on Saturday after Turesday's rant
  • Robinson said post match that there would be changes on Saturday - since when does he ever keep the same team!

However, presumably he will be leaving out the ones who, in his opinion, aren't putting a shift in or responsible for the "things he's never seen at a football match". Which might, in itself, be quite revealing.

    Or not!

I wonder if he'll look at his squad, with several players out injured, and realise he can't make many changes!

Indeed, perhaps he'll play the same 11

"The lads were gutted about how things went on Tuesday, and are determined to put things right themselves, so I've given them another go. They'll a great bunch of lads etc etc etc"
  • On the surface it could sound a bit like Powell's first half a season with us where we plummeted after promising early results and then had a complete rebuild the following summer after identifying targets early and securing them.

Where that falls down, well, it's all been said before. Not to mention that this time we've got countless players still on huge contracts that won't be shifted easily.
