It has been a long time since I've posted anything Charlton football related on this site. I, like the majority of other fans, not the 2% KM seems to believe, have found this dire situation at our beloved 'cloob' difficult to take. My kids are 10 and 8 so can't quite grasp the politics of what's going on but know that the fans want shot of the owner and those related to him running the club. They miss going to football with their dad. I miss it too having chosen to boycott. But the longer I'm not attending The Valley the more my boys will get disinterested in Charlton and might try and follow other teams, although I won't let them. I haven't been to The Valley at all this season. By the sounds of it some of the games have been worth staying at home for. However, I'm missing it. We might have to go to a game for a quick fix? As soon as RD has sold up then Senpai and family will be returning on a regular basis.
In response to the title, no I don't think it's looking good. I think RD is papering over massive cracks with unestablished players whilst increasing his own wealth. OK Jake Forster-Caskey might have potential but I've never heard of Lewis Page. How much RD is willing to allow KR to invest in more players remains to be seen and how much of the money is actually put back into the club rather than line his own pockets might only be evident once the accounts are done.
Personally I'd go to the matches for the sake of the kids. By not going you're possibly depriving them of the joys of being lifelong Charlton fans, with all the success and glory that that entails. They'll drift off and support some stupid club like Chelsea or Arsenal like their mates.
Roland has bagged between 7-10million on our best player.
2 ways of looking at it.
1. Its a good deal. You cant turn down 10mil for a league one player. We are laughing all the way to the bank. Ca-ching. Run with it.
and....
2. Roland has pocketed 7-10million on our best player.
That money is not going on anything that will benefit the club in any way. of what will make the fans happy and benefit the fans from a supporting football club point of view, the fans will not see any of it. Its almost nothing to do with us.
Roland claimed to want the visionary self sustaining model....so considering that idea. Every single penny of Lookmans fee should go on building a better 1st team...with the intent of promotion this season.
It wont happen.
The money will be used as a covering losses excuse.
Which is also due to the fact that the fans mostly hate Roland anyway. The major dip of revenue compared to last season also.
Roland will be very very happy with the sale of lookman. Will soften his recent ego damage.
It probably means he thinks he can keep doing it.
just "Sell a lookman" on average once every season and his business model is looking on the up.
Maybe those expensive academy facilities will be made after all.

No League One club is realistically going to spend £7-10m on players. We shouldn't need to at this level either. I want RD to sell the club but Lookman would have gone under almost any owner for that sort of money.
On the positive side they've got signings done quickly. It's disappointing that two are on loan, along with Rudd, Ulvestad and Botaka that's five now that will need replacing in the summer. Whatever happens it's going to be another rebuild in the summer. That's what happens when you keep changing manager and the latest one comes in with a completely different style of play.
A positive is for the first time in a long time we begin to see an identifiable shape coming together with elements of cover in key areas.
Will the playing personnel be up to the task of making it work? We will all find out soon enough.
If you lay the Robinson preferred 4-2-3-1 template across the names I suggest we can see a little clarity though it is easy to see a few key pieces are missing along with any number of imponderables.
Rudd & Phillips are a good combination for League 1. In the event of further injury to either a step into the loan market may be necessary.
The Back 4 should be amongst the divisions’ strongest. Solly, a fine player does struggle to maintain performance levels as his long term injury takes its toll. Squeezing Konsa into the role is one option but Chicksen & Byrne can provide the more natural cover.
Centrally I believe Pearce is lost for the season leaving Bauer & Texeira as the preferred pairing. Cover is provided by Konsa, Johnson & Lennon. Page & Dasilva are unknowns. We must hope they are up to the job, if not Chicksen & Byrne again offer options.
The back 5 should be up to the task of challenging for a top 6 spot
The front 6 provides a different challenge altogether.
For the central 2 midfielders we have Crofts, Jackson, Forster-Caskey, Ulvestad. I am not sure any provides either the defensive qualities to protect the Back 4 or the hard running mobility to shut sides down. There is quality there just not the ability to provide the necessary balance. They are key roles in the spine of the team.
Crofts seems to offer the best option with Jackson providing cover for one role. Hopefully Forster-Caskey and Ulvestad can compete for the other. You can however see why Konsa, despite his inexperience, is in the mix.
It has long been a disappointment Muldoon has never been considered to offer enough to be given a chance.
In the short term we can but hope the combination of talents available can do the job. Maybe it is fortunate 3 options are out of contract at seasons end. The engine room needs a substantial refit.
For the “attacking midfield 3” recent additions provide a wealth of options in a group of; Holmes, Aribo, Chicksen, Byrne, Da Silva, Forster-Caskey, Ulvestad plus Botaka upon his return.
They offer mobility & creativity but can they supply a goal scoring threat & proficiency. Can Ajose or Watts adapt to be more than an option of the bench to play in a full role in such a team structure?
To be truly effective a true no 10 is needed. They do not come cheap. If one can be acquired the squad have a fighting chance.
Magennis & Novak fit the single front man role with Watt offering an alternative style. Hanlan, Ahearne Grant are also options.
So for the first time in 35 months it is possible to identify a shape, a pattern of play and crucially a range of options to fit to that pattern. It is however a squad full of risk and unknowns.
A signature signing for Robinson will be important to provide the quality and impetus needed. Longer term securing the permanent signing of the likes of Byrne will also send a message but for now we are for the 4th time on the edge of an opportunity.
The executive threw away an opportunity to work with; - Powell by failing to add 3 or 4 quality signings and then ripping up the Championship Squad he built - Riga Part I who had shown the remainder of that squad could play Championship football - Peeters to build on a promising unbeaten run by depriving him of key additional resources at a crucial time - Slade by failing to give him the full level of support he needed from the outset. The club was a complete shambles when he walked through the door
Robinson has positioned a quick time squad turnaround. He is asking a lot of a number of new faces and some substantially unproven talent.
He needs to be fully supported with vision and a strategic spend or two.
If this executive wants to prove it has learned its lessons, to silence its critics, here is the opportunity to give its supporters the ammunition they need by stepping up to the plate.
No spin, no PR, no vacillation, no equivocation, no strategic compromise, no excuses just get the job done.

Halfway and not looking all bad, certainly a better place than where we were. We all new some would go, but if player wants to go there's not a lot you can do. At least they are bringing in new blood which is always a good thing and will give the team a lift, could still see a few more. Things certainly seem to be a little different to last season( in some ways). End of the season will prove if they got it right......play offs here we come.

This is the last chance saloon for the regime IMO. But will they step up to the plate this time ?
Thought not .
