Wasn't there and I'm certainly not seeking to diss a very welcome result but just watched the highlights and the defending for the first three of our goals was absolutely hysterically bad. We can only beat what's in front of us but that result hasn't got me down the bookies betting on us getting to the playoffs just yet. That said, makes a pleasant change to be reading this after a convincing win for a change.
What did you think of our fourth ?
Looked like a great take and finish by big Josh. Defender wasn't exactly marking him closely but it was a cracking finish.
I sat watching for half an hour thinking jesus christ, by the end big Karl was the second coming, but I was full of brandy by then, classic game of two halves.
BR were truly dire, how they are above us I have no idea. We had one striker yet they managed to forget to mark him and gave him completely free headers even I could not have missed for our first two. The third was equally poor defending and two of their players went to watch the replay on the big screen whilst they waited for the kick off so they could see just how bad it was. The fourth a nice finish. Bar then had 3-4 free headers of their own which they could only stick straight at Phillips.
Don't get me wrong, I am very happy with a 4-1 win and you can only beat what is in front of you but Rovers were truly abysmal. The Millwall result/performance likely to be a better proxy for the rest of our season.
Was surprised Robo did not put Desilva on for the last 10 to give him a taste of league football action in a no pressure environment.
Sorry AC.....but what exactly is "a better proxy"?
I mean Rovers were so bad that our performance and result against Millwall will be a better indication of our remainder of the season @SoundAsa£ .
That's more like it. Thanks to the community trust for the six free tickets.
What a difference having mobile midfielders makes.
Solly back and back to his aggressive self.
First half hour we were poor though.
Bad mistake from the BFG. He owes the others a drink but otherwise defence was sound.
Cant see how Rovers are/were top six and shows that if we can get any sort of consistently going we can be but also worth remembering that that was the first home league win in a long while.
Thought that when Botaka pushed further up after 30 mins there was more space which Aribo and Konsa exploited well. Both look skillful and willing to run at people and won free kicks from which we scored the first two goals. They left Crofts to sit and he was comfortable in that.
Botaka was a nuisance and more, Tex immense and scored, Fox solid, Bauer good bar the obvious, Philips sound, Chicksen worked hard without shining.
Which leaves Big Josh. Not been on it in the games I've seen recently and was still very isolated for long periods but took all three goals well especially the third and hit the bar twice. He was furious with Aribo for not playing him in too. Worked hard so very pleased for him.
Sure there will be harder games, starting with Millwall, but there is potential there.
Shame not to see Desilva at the end and we settled for the result with 10 to go but hey, we won.
Shame so few there to see it but we know why that is. No point some claiming all is well and please come back.
Only 5% of the Lookman fee being given to Robinson to spend and that includes wages.
Ben....are you satisfied that your source re the 5% comment is kosher? Surely this can't be true.....if it is, then it's absolutely outrageous. I am sitting here stunned.....l can't believe KR will have agreed to that when he was over in Belgium recently .....after all, he has indicated several significant signings are in the pipeline. In which case 5% is absolute peanuts and if correct it's simply impossible to sign one player of the quality required, let alone several! I honestly feel the figure you've been given must be either a mistake or a wind-up by someone!
Might explain why he felt the need to go to. Belgium. After all, Meire tells us that you speak to her you speak to him.
Best performance in ages. Good feeling about KR if we keep playing like that. Energy, skill and drive of Aribo and Konsa key to it. No. 4's time, alas, is truly up now, especially if we're adding Carruthers
I assume you mean the second half, first half seemed dire
Poor first 45 mins. Bloke in front of me giving pelters to Robinson for Bauer slipping for their goal. You can't legislate for that ever. Timely equaliser just before the break and noticed KR hurrying up the players down the tunnel for half time. Whatever he wanted to say must have worked because straight away we put Rovers on the back foot. This despite still not having control of midfield. Konsa, Crofts and Aribo are not the answer. Botaka works hard for the team but continues to frustrate. Can't fault his effort. First four goals of the match all down to poor defending. Rovers must be sick of the sight of us. Magennis look isolated in the first half but with the team trying to push forward he came into his own. Apart from his three goals he was unlucky with a couple of other efforts.
Really hope Robinson can get those central midfielders in because with that, luck and a fair wind we might just might squeak top six.
Onwards and upwards.
Konsa broke up play, ran with the ball at his feet but a few wayward passes but he will get better. Aribo, 3 assists and won the free kick that hit the bar by running at the defence. Crofts marshalled them both well. Best midfield formula of the season so far
Glad to see someone appreciate what crofts brings to the team ...
The kids were great today. Note of caution - kids will be terribly inconsistent, but it's nice to be watching them play so well and make such a difference.
Made in Charlton, as Riga put it.
Someone said to me today that whilst it's a shame Lookman is going, Aribo is much more the type of player we need. Southend and today, I kind of see his point.
Ajose did not start or really feature which meant all 11 players counted and we won. Magennis a memorable performance even though their defence was poor. Aribo ...what a player as well as konsa. All played well and great to be there and KR has got something about him with bringing the fans on board. Botaka also contributed a huge amount. I like that JJ is present at the beginning and end of the game and I also like that the players applaud the fans. Aribo has made a great start to his Charlton career. Rovers were poor, there is no doubt but to capitalise on this is something we don't normally do and Josh has really got the rewards of all his hard work. I think with Josh people will be talking about Aribo and are already forgetting Lookman (although I wish him well). It just started to feel more positive today.
First game since the Wimbledon 'no subs' debacle. First 30mins was truly desperate stuff and l had to apologise to my 9yo for bringing him. Thought line-up was strange but was initially pleased to see Konsa further forward as it's obvious legs in midfield have been a major issue all season. Only problem is he seemed a bit lost at first and found himself furthest man forward on a couple of occasions, at other times unsure whether to press or sit deeper. Improved massively thereafter, and good to see ability to learn on the job. To be fair, the whole team seemed not to know what they were doing at first, demonstrated early doors when we had an attacking left-wing free kick and nobody seemed to know who was supposed to take it.
Last hour, different gravy. Most credit to the kids who played like men - especially Aribo for his 3 assists- but obviously Magennis was quality and the turnaround showed the right stuff from the team. And credit to Fox for the moment when he jogged over from left-back, to right in front of the North Stand where he'd been getting a few boos, to console Konsa after Magennis had given him serious pelters for not squaring to him for an easy hat-trick.
Finally thanks to the entertaining fella in the West Upper, row L around seat 200 (earlier poster said West Lower L199 - same guy? - for his incessant first-half voluble 'support'. Did actually make me laugh when my kid turned to me and asked 'what did that man mean when he said earn your money, you useless tosser?'
Good day - enjoyed it much more than l thought l would. Even the boy said it was 'really good.' That, is major.
Of course, now Roland will be saying we don't need any more players as we won convincingly today (4-1 sounds convincing even if those who were there were not overly convinced) and have got a number of others due back from injury (plus Watt).
Therefore, £10m straight into Mr D's pocket (ker-ching...!)
This is such an annoying post. As you say, you were not there, you and others do not know what the agreement between KR and RD is regards Jan transfers. Even if the post is in ironic jest mode, can't you just enjoy the moment, as a Charlton fan, and wallow in the warmth of a decent win which gives you hope for the future?

But then KR basically said the same thing in his post match interview.
In the very first minute, Morgan Fox tripped over the ball, which dribbled out of play. Our central defence soon emulated him, fluffed just as they did for Millwall's goals ten days ago. We had all the possession in the first half today: slow, methodical, sideways balls – predictable to any opposition and without any fire up front.
Zip, energy, quick passing: we got it together after the break. Magennis has been our best player all season. Forget Ajose; just imagine Tony Watt, all guns blazing, with Magennis as striking partners. Fed by Ricky Holmes: darting forward, searching, probing – threading the killer pass.
It was a pleasure to watch our corners, crosses and free-kicks today: accurate and dangerous – at long last.
Magennis's third was superb. Bursting through with the ball at his feet, 18 yards out – and he sent a precise, curving shot to the top-right corner. Cue: delirium in the Covered End.
Yann Kermorgant would applaud that goal. Who needs Jackson? Who needs Lookman?
Good to see us win and score four at home. Can't get carried away though, any team would be very disappointed to concede from three set pieces like that.
Was pleased when I saw the line up. Wasn't sure how it would work out but we couldn't continue playing 2/3 from Crofts, Jackson, Foley and Ulvestad. It been obvious for a while but still credit to KR for trying something different, Slade took the "safe" option away at Swindon and lost his job because of it.
Agree with others that it wasn't a good first half. We started the game looking to quickly get the ball up to Magennis. As a lone striker that was pointless, he had little chance with no support around him.
Also agree with the comment on Konsa looking a bit lost early on but He improved as the game went on. In a similar style to Cousins he used his energy to win a few free kicks in the second half.
I thought him and Aribo did well although with room for improvement. No doubt RD will want to see them continue in the team. The timing may make bringing in more than one CM difficult - KR even suggested that in his interview after the game. What RD might not understand is if we can bring in a few more signings now we're not only giving us more chance of making the play-offs but also saving us from needing so many signings in the summer. Get in some younger but proven midfielders now and let them settle into the team and club - Crofts and Jackson are coming to the end of their careers, Foley seems to be going and Ulvestad's loan will end.
Great to see Magennis get a hat trick, he's always a threat in the air but he took his third so well. Another impressive assist from Crofts after the MK Dons game, he's not had a great season but he's another that did well today. He saw plenty of the ball and didn't often waste it.
Botaka's very much the frustrating winger, moments of quality mixed in with some very poor decisions/passes.
I've felt that this isn't a strong league for a while now and considering Bristol Rovers are above us in the table that hasn't changed. The right improvements to the squad and more ambition in our football (compared to Slade's style) and we should be good enough to make the play-offs.
It was as clear as day that when we pressed in numbers we got immediate results and forced them into mistakes. When we backed off and stopped pressing we allowed them much more possession but Rovers did little with these spells of possession other than a lot of short passes without any forward penetration - Rovers often looked like they were playing a small-sided game in a training session.
Really pleased with Konsa, Crofts and Botaka.
Big Josh was unplayable and his third was top drawer. - a sublime first touch after a superb long ball between the defenders from, I think, Crofts and the way he opened his body up and finished was up there with the best I've seen at The Valley. A seriously top notch finish.
Was very pleased to see the beginning of an understanding develop between Fox and Chicksen - exactly what Fox needed and this allowed Fox to whip in some decent crosses without fear of losing his position and after KR changed the system a bit, Chicksen would drop into the hole left by Fox as Fox pushed forward with more confidence. Also, Fox did become a central defender a couple of times when Bauer or Tex pushed forward, ensuring we always had cover.
I am hoping that Fox will start to play with more confidence as KR clearly has spotted that much of his problem has been caused by lack of support and cover when he ventures out of position and also support to ensure he's not exposed to a one on one with a tricky winger.
A thoroughly enjoyable performance and so encouraging to see our work rate, pressing and movement improve so much in such a short time.
Big Josh's first goal - the way he lost his defender to leave himself so much space was something I'd expect to see from the likes of Jordan Rhodes - very encouraging. Big Josh's fitness has also improved massively.
Very happy today. My son Tommy (10) has seen some stinkers this season, and missed the last two home matches by request. I had a feeling that today might be one of the games that you wouldn't want to miss, so ta to the players for making that the case. Solly was great today, excellent to have him back. Magennis, classic hat-trick. Botaka, terrible early, but later showed what a handful he can be. I'm wondering if he's nervouse when he starts? Aribo, looks very classy. Konsa grew into the midfield role the more the game went on. So good not to start Ajose. Chicksen also looks classy. Crofts looks better with more pace and forward momentum around him.
With Holmes back, I think we're on to something. If we also manage to make a few good signings, then play-offs a distinct possibility. Possibly even without? Let's hope Roland doesn't mess this up.

If we sell lookman for at least £5 million and make the play offs roland will be very happy with himself.
Forgot to mention that had an enjoyable, albeit brief, visit to the Charlton Museum today. Good to see Ben again, and also to meet Ian Wallace. Hoping to do a Jimmy Seed talk for the Bromley Addicks some time this season.
Made it to the game today & glad that I did. For 60 or so minutes today, Fanny's mojo returned...
Other Lifers have dissected the match & commented accordingly on individual performances which I agree with on the whole. No-one in the red shirt had a poor game but, if we can forget the dismal opposition, I'd pick out OUR 4 Young Guns as joint MOM. And, yes, that does include Morgan who I felt committed himself extremely well, especially in light of the disgraceful barracking he's been on the end of recently ....but of course, that's just my opinion.
9 goals scored with 2 conceded against The Pirates this season says more about them than us, I feel and of course, one swallow...you can complete the saying as you see fit And we didn't need the services of our own "Jolly" Roger !
What today's result should achieve is a further elevation in the confidence of the squad & that's not to be sneezed at. Unfortunately, what also comes with the territory is an increase in expectations by the faithful and with 12 days until the next outing which just happens to be the BIG one, it would be interesting to hear how the gaffer manages that period. With additions to the group likely during that time, he will need to make some huge decisions regarding his starting line up on Jan 14th. Get it right, and he'll be the best thing since sliced bread. Get it wrong, and the fans will let him know it in no uncertain terms. No pressure then, KR.
Apart from the win itself, it was good to hear some noise from the home areas again and to see some happy faces at the final whistle, both on & off the pitch. The kids in attendance for a quid will have enjoyed seeing some goals for a change too & could be begging Dad to take them again - maybe we'll out sing the Spanners this time. It was also great to hear that @queensland_addick & his girls managed to catch a home win at last before they return to warmer climes. We met at a supporter meeting in Gravesend a few years ago & enjoyed a chat. I do admire the ex pats that support from afar & who look forward to their trips "home" to spend time with family, friends and at their football club. Safe journey back to Oz, guys.
Finally, I made a point of watching SWMBO in the Directors' Box when Big Josh scored the equaliser this afternoon. She looked very animated ( it COULD have been RM next to her pulling her strings ) & appeared to be jumping up & down with joy, bless her cotton socks. Mind you, Sue had just informed her that the half time buffet was ready ....
Great to see a Charlton victory, an energetic midfield and a Magennis hat trick. Truly atrocious defending from Bristol Rovers though.
No marking for the first two & on the free kick for the third, the Rovers defender, Hartley runs away from Aribo on the left, & causes chaos in their own defence enabling Teixeira to score. Charlton won't be able to expect Almost deserves a joint assist. Good confident finish from Magennis for the fourth.
Pleased to see the 3 points & you can only beat the team in front of you, but charlton won't be able to expect such charitable defending every week.
its all been said but I will reiterate that this league is utter tripe and I wouldn't be surprised if one if not both us and the scum are in the play offs . I was opposite the tunnel and Josh needed cajoling to do the second tunnel jump , he seems a real humble guy . I really want to like Robinson but he does seem a bit too 'try hard' atm sort of someone who's come in to your group of mates and has too much to say and is a bit too chummy .
0.01% Top two ......... 29.99% 3rd-6th ......... 50% 7th-12th ......... 20% 13th-20th ......0% relegation
Early on I was thinking Josh looked unhappy and body language wasn't positive. Amazing how he turned it on after scoring, third goal was a genuine No 9 finish.
Hats off to Robbo. Adventurous in his selection. Moving Konsa from the holding player to more offensive just genius.
Botika worked hard and after a poor 30. Seemed galvanised by being bought down whilst on a good run and played well after this.
Fox did not put a foot wrong other than a silly tackle for his yellow and loved his justifiable rant at Tex for failing to cover - which seemed to knock him out of his trance. Chicksen playing in front of him gives him support for the first time in yonks and it shows. Bloke's behind slagged off every touch - even when it was not him. Somehow got the blame for their goal as well! Why these supporters cant join the boycott?
Aribo the star though. Great at dead ball play and what a welcome change that is.

Great to be in a rocking covered end
Bloke behind us blamed Phillips for their goal - what more could he have done ?

Phillips
Chicksen Bauer Teixeira Fox
Crofts Foley
Botaka Ulvestad Ajose
Magennis
Those 11 players fit much better in a traditional 442:
Phillips
Foley Bauer Teixeira Fox
Botaka Crofts Ulvestad Chicksen
Magennis Ajose
Hopefully that's something that will be rectified by our transfer dealings
