The key for me was getting back level before half time after a poor first half hour, which gave us the platform for a very encouraging second half performance. A long way to go of course, but I certainly think we can forget now about being involved in a relegation battle, and with a few good signings we could make a run at the play offs. Too much to do to threaten the top 2 however.
First 40 mins shambles....got a goal at the right moment second half different class. Went to both games and in both games could and should have got more. I am puzzled to see where they are in the league.
Saw Rovers on NYE comfortably beat Wimbledon, but with a quite different side from today. I wasn't at their today, but the front and middle pairs were second string - in fact the front 6 players were changed. Rovers cant really score without Taylor up front or play without Lines and Clark pulling the strings.
Great result nonetheless. It seems KR has worked out the pace problem - perhaps it took him a few weeks to find his feet/ delete button.
But I'd like to see Aribo before he goes.
Were those second string players playing a month ago when we smashed them 5-1 ?
Well Taylor and Clark werent playing. I'm no expert. They obviously change things around as much as others.
A lot of fair to middling sides. It's that type of division isn't it?
Second half best home 45 minutes I have seen this season.
Mcguiness took his goals very well but the marking was terrible.
Aribo looks classy with bags of potential.
Let's see what gets spent of the Lookman money before building up any hope.
Was Pinnochio around today, I couldn't see her.
KM was there today but I do blame her for a good victory and for Foxies good performance. Also blame the cretin in the Lower West who started slagging off Solly as soon as the match started He sits around L199/20. I believe he is on controlled release and his equally cretinous friend was not evident today.

Agreed, quality of the the league seems much worse than the last time we were in it.
Good win and played well. Croft's is some player. I don't get how other people can't see how important he is to us. Josh looked a handful and it was funny seeing his kid running all over the place before kick off. My son was mascot today and KR spent time with the boys and I got a chance to speak with him. I was very impressed with what he had to say. He alluded to concern over potential problems with Nicky and Watt. Be interesting to see how that pans out. Fingers crossed for a a good run and push up the league.
Probably, because Crofts hasn't played as well all season !
BR were truly dire, how they are above us I have no idea. We had one striker yet they managed to forget to mark him and gave him completely free headers even I could not have missed for our first two. The third was equally poor defending and two of their players went to watch the replay on the big screen whilst they waited for the kick off so they could see just how bad it was. The fourth a nice finish. Bar then had 3-4 free headers of their own which they could only stick straight at Phillips.
Don't get me wrong, I am very happy with a 4-1 win and you can only beat what is in front of you but Rovers were truly abysmal. The Millwall result/performance likely to be a better proxy for the rest of our season.
Was surprised Robo did not put Desilva on for the last 10 to give him a taste of league football action in a no pressure environment.

Sorry AC.....but what exactly is "a better proxy"?
The classic game of two halves in many ways. First half too many of ours weren't really 'at it,' although Solly came back into the side and played as if he had never been away, and we were duly punished when Bauer fell over with nobody near him and kicked the ball into Easter's path with just Dillon Phillips to beat. Dillon tried to force him wide but the man who knocked us out the league cup 10 years back during our halcyon Premiership days when playing for Wycombe Wanderers was not to be denied. 1-0 Bristol Rovers. Prior to their goal our sole attacking action of note was a free kick from Josh Magennis and Big Josh got on the end of a cross from the left to equalise from what was pretty much our next attack of note. So 1-1 at the interval.
Much to my and most of the sparse crowd's surprise Charlton started the second half as if they meant it and Esri Konsa in particular really stepped up to the plate in his midfield role winning and taking a free kick* which Big Josh powerfully headed in for his and our second.
Recent Charlton sides have tended to sit back once in the lead and get punished accordingly but encouragingly we kept pressing forward and gained our reward when Jorge Teixeira slid in our third following a goalmouth scramble. Still we pressed and to the delight of the home fans Big Josh deservedly scored a third with a confidently taken looped shot into the net.
A pleasant and unexpected surprise made even better for me as my daughter was watching with me.
This result changes nothing longterm re the regime but I will enjoy a rare shaft of light in the darkness that has been Charlton for what seems so long and good to see Big Josh tunnel jumping.
*Winning. Aribo took it. For some reason at the time I thought it was Esri.
Wasn't there and I'm certainly not seeking to diss a very welcome result but just watched the highlights and the defending for the first three of our goals was absolutely hysterically bad. We can only beat what's in front of us but that result hasn't got me down the bookies betting on us getting to the playoffs just yet. That said, makes a pleasant change to be reading this after a convincing win for a change.
Was Jackson listed as Player/Coach today as at Southend? Think Robinson is being very savvy aligning himself so closely with Jacko, will buy him plenty of time with lots of fans.
We were terrible for the first 30 minutes, passes going astray, no energy and most annoyingly no movement of tthe ball. Thankfully Bristol Rovers shambolic, pathetic excuse for a defence all stood and watched Josh equalize.
Second half we were better but were helped by some utterly hapless defending, the Rovers back four and keeper were up there with the worst I've ever seen.
Some decent performances and pleased that Josh has been rewarded for his hard work, he has looked increasingly isolated and frustrated in recent weeks and hopefully that will get the fire re-ignited.
Didn't like Robinson's carry-on at the end, well over the top imo.
Well that was nice! One-paced first half hour capped by an absolute howler from Bauer to let Easter in for his mandatory goal. I was busy wondering who in our line-up would've poached as he did when we equalised from a well-delivered free kick to ward off any half time boos.
Seeing the line-up at the start, and then that first 30 mins, I just couldn't see where the always hard-working Magennis would get any service, but once Aribo stepped back a little and Konsa grew into the game things really started to happen. With Crofts sitting in behind them they were both terrific - Crofts also played a huge part in finally upping the tempo during the 10 minutes leading up to the goal, just by putting a foot in quicker and at least trying to move things forward.
Konsa relished being back in midfield where he often played for the U-23s, showing a real maturity, and Aribo's confidence grew and grew after a series of fine set pieces. And ahead of them all, the thoroughly deserving hat-trick man. Take a bow Josh - for once his work rate was rewarded with goals he earns. A superb all round centre forward display, always available for the out ball, bullying their CB's on the deck and in the air, and barely giving away a soft free kick in the process. Two great headers and a wonderful third - they simpy couldn't handle him. Work that hard Nicky Ajose and you might just surprise yourself with the rewards.
Another competent game from Phillips, and all the defence apart from that mishap, but for once this was more about the attacking unit, with drive and skill creating the openings for a rampant No.9. Well done lads, more of he same please.
My first win in 3 years, and first ever win for my girls, after 6 games. I came away from Southend saying I was excited about our youngsters. Then Aribo stole the show. Today it was Konsa, despite Josh's hatrick and 3 assists from Aribo who wasn't quite as dynamic as against Southend. Get Holmes, Kashi and Watt back and we'd have a hell of a team for this division. What a difference a mobile and energetic midfield makes! Anyone who says that Croft's is slow, is wrong. He may look slow alongside Jacko and Foley, but he was great today.

I disagree, its good that he gets the players doing that. The relationship between fans and players has vanished over the past few seasons. Even more importantly, will he have them doing the same in a fortnight when the scoreline is reversed.
Of course, now Roland will be saying we don't need any more players as we won convincingly today (4-1 sounds convincing even if those who were there were not overly convinced) and have got a number of others due back from injury (plus Watt).
Therefore, £10m straight into Mr D's pocket (ker-ching...!)

Don't mind the players applauding, it was his tub thumping and fist pumping that was over the top imo.

Did you hate Powell doing the crossbar celebration at Wednesday?

Hardly comparable, and who said anything about hating it?
We've beaten a pretty shit Bristol Rovers team and Robinson is carrying on like we've won the league.

So that wasn't over the top? About time someone at the fucking club had a bit of passion and actually gives a fuck.

The guy's first home win, he's entitled to be pleased.
Can't believe people are getting on KR's back by showing some passion. Everyone lapped it up when loony tune Luzon jumped on the player pile during goal celebration.
Brilliant result. Keep 'em coming Karl. Seemed like the midfield worked a lot better today. And, no new signings in there so Karl is working with what he's got and it worked, today at least. Encouraging.
3 goals for Mag and he deserved that. Apart from a couple of lapses he has played brilliantly for us. Who needs Yann :-).
That's more like it. Thanks to the community trust for the six free tickets.
What a difference having mobile midfielders makes.
Solly back and back to his aggressive self.
First half hour we were poor though.
Bad mistake from the BFG. He owes the others a drink but otherwise defence was sound.
Cant see how Rovers are/were top six and shows that if we can get any sort of consistently going we can be but also worth remembering that that was the first home league win in a long while.
Thought that when Botaka pushed further up after 30 mins there was more space which Aribo and Konsa exploited well. Both look skillful and willing to run at people and won free kicks from which we scored the first two goals. They left Crofts to sit and he was comfortable in that.
Botaka was a nuisance and more, Tex immense and scored, Fox solid, Bauer good bar the obvious, Philips sound, Chicksen worked hard without shining.
Which leaves Big Josh. Not been on it in the games I've seen recently and was still very isolated for long periods but took all three goals well especially the third and hit the bar twice. He was furious with Aribo for not playing him in too. Worked hard so very pleased for him.
Sure there will be harder games, starting with Millwall, but there is potential there.
Shame not to see Desilva at the end and we settled for the result with 10 to go but hey, we won.
Shame so few there to see it but we know why that is. No point some claiming all is well and please come back.
Only 5% of the Lookman fee being given to Robinson to spend and that includes wages.
Ben....are you satisfied that your source re the 5% comment is kosher? Surely this can't be true.....if it is, then it's absolutely outrageous. I am sitting here stunned.....l can't believe KR will have agreed to that when he was over in Belgium recently .....after all, he has indicated several significant signings are in the pipeline. In which case 5% is absolute peanuts and if correct it's simply impossible to sign one player of the quality required, let alone several! I honestly feel the figure you've been given must be either a mistake or a wind-up by someone!
It's not all bad, he's also allowed 7.5% of the Konsa fee, 10% of the Fox fee and 12% of the Aribo fee and any others....
Comments
When Aribo was substituted, both Crofts and Josh made a point of going over to him, shaking his hand, and ruffling his hair.
It's important that the senior pros acknowledge the performance of the kids after a performance like that.
A lot of fair to middling sides. It's that type of division isn't it?
