Found this amongst some old photos. Looks around 1950s. Think a neighbour's girl was in it. The boys holding the banner should have held it a bit higher (probably weighed a ton though) as the word Woolwich is partially obscured.
Lochnagar is a very nice part of the Highlands. I wonder what the connection with Woolwich is?
After extensive googling(!) it appears that exiled Scots formed the Lochnagar School of Highland Dancing in Plumstead/Woolwich and one of their teachers Mrs Gladys Whittall formed a Pipe Band. They used to raise money for Charity by appearing at fetes. fairs etc.
Missed this thread for a while. Recognised the Swingate Lane picture straight away. Moved just round the corner in 1975 (as an 8/9 year old) & remember it looking like that. A couple of years later, we also used the Swingate Lane playing fields, walking up through Rockliffe Gardens from St Pauls in Wickham Lane. Great for me, as I was always home early after games.
Little bit here on Rockliffe which was always my short cut to/from school

Genteel Bexley don't want Woolwich! This should cause some discussion. I just found it funny. Some of these comments, honestly.
Nicola Hunter wrote to the commission to say she moved to Bexley borough because “their ideas and priorities are far superior and in line with my views [and] aspirations”.
Good god. Even if you think that you really shouldn't put it on paper to get quoted...
Mary Clark said: “Woolwich has gone downhill big time. I do not want to be classed as being in Woolwich, and the value of my house will go down.”
Where to start with this one? It is more than apprant that Mary is unaware of the upturn in Woolwich over the last few years, with more resurants, pubs, supermarkets and flats added many years ago It has hardly gone downhill, if anything it has seen a steady progression since Berkley homes have regeneated the Royal arsenal, Beautiful flats, plans to regenerate the public market to add a cinema, work space, more luxury flats, the new waterside blocks are stunning, there are more resturants, more bars, a second hotel to be added soon, the Royal arsenal itself houses a private gym already but will shortly add a second luxury gym, swimming pool and private cinema which will be available to residents of the RA. Not to mention the stunning farmers market, the guardhouse, congusto, the Pubs everywhere, even one that brews its own beer out of Woolwich and will use this year to expand thier operation all over the UK and overseas, there are coffee shops, cafes, of course we all know there is a busy high street with major names streching from one end to the other, and going back to property, the one bedroom apartments going from £400,000 At the time of writing, so how's that for house prices, Mary? This is all before you even consider the fortcoming crossrail station , that paired with DLR,national rail and the thames clipper, will make Woolwich one of the best connected parts of London. Only 14 minutes to Liverpool st on a new air conditioned crossrail train with wifi. Doesn't sound to negitave to me? Granted, there are good number of wrongns in SE18, but Woolwich is changing and will continue to do so, despite what some think.
Anybody recognise this ? Found it on a random Google search. It's obviously Woolwich / Charlton because of the Woo telephone number. Some right likely lads too.
I was born in Woolwich and lived there until my early 20's. It was always seen as a step up moving out of Woolwich to places like Welling, Bexleyheath etc.

How about all those dodgy parts north of the A2 form their own borough. ;-)

I agree 100% with Nicola Hunter Don't let Roland see this, 450 seats would be ideal for a ground share
