While I don't disagree with protests and I have full support for what CARD are trying to do I'm not comfortable with fans being 'advised' not to do something and I'm even more concerned with how how Grandpa is been riddiculed on here. Every time something like this happens and the individual that exercises his right to his own opinion is 'attacked' CARD lose just a little more support.
If these events continue to happen in the end there will be less support for CARD than there is for the club.
I'm going to ignore any abuse I get for this so you'd be wasting your time giving it but from memory Grandpa has been a reasonable poster on here and has been as keen to remove the Belgians as most others. There does come a point where you will have excluded so many that you really wil be 2%.
I can't think of any historical campaign that has been successful when the members are so quick to turn on their own.
Bring on the abuse......
I agree, at least in principle. As far as I'm concerned, this has been some people voicing their feelings about the protest, others protesting legally, and you're both right--you're both entitled to your opinions.
It seemed that we started careening toward turning on each other at the end of last year when not renewing was being discussed. It feels like there has been a lot more sympathy, as it is a very, very hard decision and that's made me really proud. As far as I'm concerned, no fan is "The Enemy." We will not all agree with each other, you will never have true plurality, but the problem lives in Belgium, not London. We need to respect each person's desire to protest or not protest in their own way, or we're no better than those who we oppose. When RD is gone, we'll all still be Charlton fans.
Just out of curiosity, have you ever been to The Valley?
Out of curiosity, if I hadn't would I be less of a fan or my opinion less valid?
Of course, you fairweather Yank. Do you even know where England is on a map? We all have tea with the Queen by the way, and walk around in top hat and tails, and can't go 15 minutes without a cuppa. If you ever do come here, remember we don't say hello or good morning, our Official greeting is "lovely/terrible weather we're having" (delete as applicable)

Well, have you or haven't you? It's a simple question.
And if he does not answer the question take it that he's not been.
I'd answer like this either way.
I like how my post about "we're all entitled to our opinions" has become a challenge of "are you fan enough to have an opinion?"
All fans are equal, some are more equal than others, eh?
SD, at a time when many are boycotting to try and save the club, the furtherest away you are from The Valley the better. If you were to come out and tell us you'd never been to Europe that would make you the ultimate Charlton fan
Ugh god, that'd be even worse.
I lived in Charlton for a few months (lovely few months as well), and I think I've been to The Valley around 15 times now. Only one away trip, and that was Ipswich when I was studying in Norwich. Sat in the home end because it was like 5 quid for students. Saw Danny Haynes score a sliced cross over Nicky Weaver. That was the only time I went to Ipswich.
Again, I'm quite bad at this fair-weather thing. And I do not believe in contrived distinctions between "fans" and "supporters" or however you want to break it out so that some people's opinions are les valid than yours based on the person and not the opinion.

That was this bloke. I think Roger Johnson must have positioned him given the lettering behind him.
It was all very amicable. I wonder how many there are like me who will go along for the protests but not the game? I'd much rather have had half an hour of Roland Out etc in the car park. I suppose most fans are either boycotting or protesting?

Honestly, I understand that, I really do. Just because I think we're all entitled to an opinion on equal footing does not mean I do not try to have an appreciation of history or that I don't have a massive amount of respect for those who went through something that now seems unfathomable.

On a forum this large, there's a disagreement on every thread, even on topics that I wouldn't previously have imagined could cause disagreements. Pre-regime, that was just the accepted way.
Curiously, with the regime coming in and ruining everything, there's been a very definite "It's Us vs Them" mentality, which goes on to give the impression that since we're all one entity fighting against a common enemy, we're all on the same page. But the huge amount and diversity of posters on this forum means that we're still getting disagreements on every possible subject. It's just that now, so many of the subjects induce a much higher level of anger/passion/rage, so the arguments feel that much more personal.
While I don't disagree with protests and I have full support for what CARD are trying to do I'm not comfortable with fans being 'advised' not to do something and I'm even more concerned with how how Grandpa is been riddiculed on here. No abuse but I do think you are being unneccessarily defensive on behalf of Granpa. All that happened yesterday was a good natured gathering outside the club shop, some of whom politely asked those going in not to "fund Roland". It really was nothing for anyone to be intimidated or upset by. If people went in anyway, that was respected. And I don't think that anyone is ridiculing Granpa, as much as expressing surprise that he was angered by it.
It's a shame the regime has brought us to this place - genuinely saddening that Granpa couldn't potter around the club shop. Please someone chalk this up as yet another tragic consequence of this useless regime. Hope you can cope with these tough times, Granpa.
I have to say I felt slightly odd protesting yesterday. Amazed at how little reference to Roland there was among my neighbours in the east stand. I'll reserve judgement until results go pear shaped but I did feel a little like a rebel without a cause. I hope this doesn't signal benign acceptance of Roland et al but it did all feel a bit meh yesterday.
Interesting as this was more confrontational than the interaction between @The_President and Katrien's Father.
Yet we dont defend our own fans right to peace and quiet - but we go mental that he knocked on her dads door.
It really pisses me off that people still spend cash at the club, but we shouldn't be targeting other fans, they should make there own judgement and should be left alone with that decision.
A bit of banter on a forum is one thing but picket lining a shop that people are going into is just silly.
As has been said from the off. Everyone has a right to do as they see fit. If that means buy season-tickets, replica kit, pay the extortionate prices for very average food and drink, and refuse to join in any anti-regime chants, then that's an individual's right and we should respect it and leave them alone. Just as we have a right to do all we can. within the bounds of decency and the law, the hound the loathed Duchatalet, the simply appalling Meire, and the Quisling Murray until they all bugger off.
The one thing we must not do is turn on each other because when Roland is dead and buried and Katrien has disappeared up her own CV we will be the ones still supporting the club and trying to help rebuild it from the shambles they will leave.
Some idiot tried to stop me and my grandson from going in to the shop but when I told him to fuck off, out of earshot of my grandson I might add, he soon backed off. Some of these morons who are protesting really do CARD no justice at all. Foul mouthed abuse happened a lot last season from protesters. Really does not help the cause.

So much hate on here at the moment! We all support Charlton and want Roland out! The way to do it is not all this fighting between ourselves. We either boycott or protest, does it matter which? We will never achieve 0% revenue for Roland but if the protests say for example cost Roland money week in week out then it was a success and it doesn't matter if someone wanted to buy his grandson a programme, we are constantly hitting Roland where it hurts so well done card!!
Anyway, a way to stop this infighting is to have a Charlton life party. 12 noon Charlton park before the next home game. According to @ricky_otto it's @ElfsborgAddick round!

Actually, fuck it.
You've never been to The Valley or experienced the the Selhurst years, the numerous relegations, the ecstasy as of a play-off final win along with all the other shit, so your 'opinions ' do not carry the weight of all of those that have.
Wrap your head around that insensitive bombast.
However, I think you're a decent chap and am pleased that you chose to follow Charlton.
Edit: just seen your previous post.Fair dos.
How the f*** have you got so many, you're not even funny!
He's actually at 13.8k LOLs apparently...
The geezer has only been given four flags, not for long.
Honestly, I understand that, I really do. Just because I think we're all entitled to an opinion on equal footing does not mean I do not try to have an appreciation of history or that I don't have a massive amount of respect for those who went through something that now seems unfathomable.
