    "That was shit Rog"

    "Fuck you"

    Great team spirit there

Amazes me how no one clumps Johnson. I don't know what he's like off the pitch and if it's all just said in the heat of the moment but on the pitch from what i've read this pre season he seems a total prick. Wouldn't mind if he was actually decent, but he's probably our worst defender.
Apart the fox . the sad thing is both will start at Bury
  • I expected Johnson to be released, not to build our defence around!

How long before Slade makes him capt?

I know I keep banging on about it but until we sign at least 3-4 more midfielders we are fucked. These tossers in charge are gonna leave us in the shit yet again.

    You sound suprised.
  • Crying out for a creative central midfielder. Desperately need someone who carries the ball and can make a killer pass against defence minded teams.

I'm not but I think a few on here will be when they realise it won't all suddenly come together when the season starts.

  • I'm unique, I was the only CAFC fan at the game. It was all very weird. It started as a mission for Elfsborgaddick, because he emailed me to get a ticket for the game and a team sheet. Got into the ground 5€, went to the kiosk for a beer, and asked if there were any team sheets. She directed me to the president of the Pinkafeld club, who was holding the one and only team sheet in his hand. Also introduced to me was the guy who liaised with Chris Parkes to organise the fixture. He had nothing but praise for the way Chris Parkes dealt with him. He was most complimentary. The upshot is that the president sent his minion to photocopy the team sheet, which I now have. This all took a few beers, and then I met an Austrian guy who had worked in IT in London , living in Steatham Hill, so had to go through the whole Brexit/Boris thing, and the upsurge in the right wing in Austrria. (By the way, the last election has been declared null and void, due to voting irregularities and is being rerun in September). This took a few more beers, and by this time the second half was well underway.
I was fairly well oiled by this time, and the Charlton squad who were not playing, Patrick Bauer et al, were sitting directly below me. So I went around and sat below them, an

Being drunk at a football match, shame on you!
  • There was loads more on this, but the dodgy Austrian internet cut out as I posted it, and I can't be arsed to type it out again! Although it is a bit of a tease

Nothing to do with the alcohol intake amigo?

Well glad I didn't bother with watching or listening to that. 1-0 better than I expected, but I did expect us to be poor, and that does seem to be the case! A few signings and people get excited, but anybody who undertstands how this club is run now can see that the weakenings are under way!
  • Would it have been different if Ajose had played! !?? His partnership with Novak at Welling was very good! Yes I know it was only Welling!

From watching a good two thirds of the game- I doubt it!
There was no creativity in midfield and the ball was rarely in or arround the Anzhi box. Any time Novak had was because the ball had been lumped forward and he had taken it down (waiting for the support which never really came) or it had come from set pieces.
Ajose would have been similar to Harriot IMO , in and out of the game showing little spark/energy
  • Only a pre season run out to get some fitness but the football by Charlton was very disappointing and not a tad worrying. Time enough yet to sort it out. No panic required yet.
  • A 0-0 would've been an alright result if we had looked like creating anything but we didn't all game. There was no creativity at all.

We will struggle to score goals unless we sign some creative midfielders.

Sorry but we are just mug punters whereas the gaffer is a seasoned pro!

Therefore I think it is fair to say that he has his eyes on purchasing some quality in terms of attacking midfield flair!!!

of course he does, problem is he won't get the opportunity to do so.
  • Having thought about it and had a few beers..at least Slade is having a good look at the squad. I doubted his credentials to begin with but I reckon he's a bit cannier than I first thought.

I don't think we'll have the record breaking champs of our last stay in league one. But I do reckon we'll have a battle hardened play off side. Which for a club our size is less than should be expected. Without Slade though, I reckon it would be worse.

Why do we support this club? Grrr cos we do. COYRs!!!!!;7;£!()7&

I always enjoy the walk from Welling station past a succession of nail bars and shops selling mattresses. It was odd that Park View Road was silent: usually there is Radar on the tannoy, spluttering incomprehensible messages to the sloping pitch. Either the PA system or the announcer himself has expired.

We scored quickly, then bumbled around. Harriott shanked crosses - again - and shots were spiralled over the wall to land in an old dear's shopping trolley. Slade is on the touchline in a tight-fighting black jumpsuit and baseball cap, like the commander of a SWAT team in Los Angeles.

We were good at Welling in the second half: moving quickly, getting forward, sweeping wide, and crossing accurately. I like the look of Holmes: he is busy in midfield, and willing to advance. When you think of the catalogue of pansies we have suffered in midfield over the years, Holmes lifts the heart.

I am worried about Ajose. Yes, we all know his scoring stats at Swindon - but he looks bloody tiny, especially from my elevated position at the Danson Park end at Welling. He scored a neat hat-trick of easy tap-ins on the municipal turf, but I fear he'll get shouldered off the ball when the war starts. I am also sceptical about Lee Novak.

He was shunted from Brum to Chesterfield. Broad-of-beam, and passes the Charlton height test. A lumbering lump, two stone heavy. You may remember the first game a couple seasons ago, away at Bournemouth, when Yann Kermorgant was packing a few pounds. He leant back and volleyed the most glorious and spectacular goal. I can't see Lee Novak ever doing that.

Our players are peripheral: dim in the head and weak with the foot. I enjoyed your reports from Bromley and Austria, gents. Keep them going. COME ON YOU REDS!

What are you basing that on?

Currently we don't look like having a squad anywhere else close to being able to compete in the top 6. Might not a have a senior keeper, could be starting with Roger Johnson at the back, we have an ageing, slow midfield with no creativity, and only 2 decent strikers (i'm assuming Watt will still leave). Nowhere close to being good enough for a 46 game season.
  • Right from a fire station leaving do, I didn't get much chance to follow the performance and with a headache this morning I think the result seems encouraging. Yes it sounds like we were slow in possession but I expected a defeat and it sounds like we were organised.

I hate to say it though... What are you basing your facts on that we won't be a strong Play-Off side?

At the moment our pre-season is proving typical of many years gone by, nothing has changed in that respect... Plus I still feel we're in a much weaker League One to the one we were last in

Not only does the league look weaker than last time, you have to remember that though our midfield looks devoid of creativity and out backline is ageing and slow, so will many of the teams in League 1. I think with the right signings (debatable if we'll make them but there's still 6 weeks) then we have a good shot. Relegation talk is mind blowing

Remember at the same time for nearly two years we were a club that were flirting with Administration yet constantly around the play-offs (especially with an ageing blackline that included Dailly and Doherty).

The only time we briefly fell away was when an inexperienced Manager took over (Chris Powell) yet thankfully was someone who learnt his role extremely quickly that summer

I can't believe we pin our hope on we may be crap, but others are crapper.

I dont think we'll be crap... I dont think we need to panic that teams will be better...

i.e. this is a League that includes a Gillingham side where half its First-Team couldn't beat our U21 side... Walsall have just lost Tom Bradshaw one of the danger men in the League, Millwall look set to lose their danger man; Lee Gregory, I think Charlton are the only side so far to spend any money on transfers in League One this season so certainly dont think we'll be crap.

At the moment it's just the usual panic from fans as they constantly panic over friendly results!!... Yet for the last four / five years we've lost at least one game to a foreign team and one game against Non-League opposition, this last week, the results whether it be under Russell Slade / Bob Peeters / Guy Luzon / Chris Powell is nothing new

    Friendlies mean nothing.

England have beaten France, Germany and Portugal within the last 9 months.

    Every single year people panic.
  • Official Twitter have just put up a video of the highlights- which make the game look very exciting and make it look like we were exceptionally strong!

Shame about the 85 minutes that weren't shown!
