As an aside, at the weekend I watched Argyle and on the programme squad list the number 12 had alongside it 'green army'. At least one club understands the value of its fans.
A bit late to the party but here's my two penn'orth ...
I'd like a red shirt to support my club albeit one without official markings but I'd easily wear a white/black/combo one. If there was a "home" and "away" option I'd probably get both.
As for the logo, a version of the FA Cup-winning crest would be good; the robin on a black and white beach ball is a nod to our history and our present predicament. If you wanted a sword logo, instead of the official logo being inside a black ring containing the words "Charlton Athletic", how about having a black and white scarf looped around the sword?
Not too fussed about a sponsor and if there is to be a CARD reference on the shirt put it on the sleeve where the Football League logo would normally be.
As others have said, the number 12 on the back is a nice touch as is the option of honouring old heroes with their name on the back (Humphrey please!).
I may be wrong but I think the club decided a few years ago that it wasn't worth trade marking the badge as there wasn't a market for copying it and an annual fee is required to keep the TM going. The badge certainly used to have the TM logo on it, look a kit that is a few years old. New kits don't have.
Guys how long until the kit is available for purchase?
Only reason I ask is that I wouldn't put it past KM to rush through the release of next years kit ahead of this.
I think it's important everyone supports this regardless of whether the colour, logo etc suit their preference. Will make a big story if we sell 100/1000s.
Judging on what they have done in the past, I would imagine they will come up with a kit around July. I dont think it really matters what they come up with really, we all know its going to be a template from Nike. If we get relegated I dont think anyone is going to be rushing out to buy next years kit, do you?
We have a really great design which we think will please the majority
However, we need some inspiration for the insignia/logo please. Please do not post your ideas here though as we don't want to give too much away to prying eyes, but please inbox me so we can correlate your ideas.
Nothing relating to Addicks/Charlton/Valley/Sword though as that ground has been covered already.
We are looking for something really unique but ultimately something that most Charlton fans will instantly recognise.
Thanks for your help so far, we need a final bit of inspiration from all of you then we can start to talk numbers and sizes and go to a protoype.
I just browsed a heraldry web site. Not just the symbols but the colours too have an underlying meaning. So red indicates a warrior or martyr; military strength and magnanimity, black indicates constancy or grief (fairly appropriate I thought) and white indicates peace and sincerity. Some of the symbols are interesting in their meaning as well.
So, I reckon for the logo, either 14 chips rampant or maybe a pothole couchant.
Im going to order a prototype shirt next week. I think it will please the majority. We dont have a sponsor so it will be a plain shirt but a really cool design thanks to @Nug. Timing isnt right for Andrews and nobody else has come forward, so for now we will push on without a sponsor.
