Great, we are crying out for a creative midfielder and we sign another defender.

    Well done

    if you kean

Instead of just slaughtering the regime cos it's the in-vogue thing right now, would anyone like to look at this logically?

Riga knows that Solly's knees are fooked so that can't play more than once a week. We have five Tuesday night games scheduled over our run in, and from all accounts, Fanni is at this stage of his career, a 'centre back who can play right back'. I think Fanni was brought in as an older head to play (or even just be around training) when Diarra is out, and this lad, who comes highly rated from Watford in our league, will offer the true right back cover we need when Solly can't play. As the first of these games isn't for a couple of weeks his lack of fitness shouldn't be too much of an issue.

(Then again, maybe I'm being too glass half full here, and looking for logic where none has been applied).

I'd go with your last statement, the only knee involved in the current recruitment strategy is the one associated with jerks....
That's right, everyone expresses their displeasure with the regime to follow the crowd
  • The only Italian that would make me happy is Paulo Di Canio as manager, armed with a decent budget to rebuild without interference

Roland as owner and a fascist as manager - two reasons not to renew my season ticket.
  • Perhaps we've made this signing because Bauer and Solly aren't going to play every game this season, Diarra is wasted in defence, and Fox, THD, Sarr and Lennon (at the moment) aren't good enough. That then gives us a possible back four of Motta on the left, Tex and Fanni/Bauer, in the middle, Solly on the right, with Fox in for Motta and Motta moved to the right when Solly needs a rest.
  • Was this guy at at Watford the same time as our Interim chief scout Mark Sow?
  • In a week or two's time our defence will probably read

    Henderson
    Solly Fanni Teixeira Motta

    Better than

    Henderson
    Solly Johnson Williams Lennon

    Right?

Who knows. We haven't seen two of those play. Could be terrible.

    Right?

Without seeing 2 of those play it's very hard to tell. But I'm not too keen on the idea of a right back playing left back and Fanni playing (football) after having hardly any game time under his belt.

The bottom line is defensively we have very very little quality at all. Don't see many clean sheets between now and the end of the season.
    Feel sorry for Henderson.

On paper obviously yes but Fanni and Motta have hardly played this season.

How far off returning are Diarra and Bauer?

  • So now we got a fanni and a Mott in defence

His face reminds me of a chubby Ronaldo.
Looks like a chubby Sean Bean in When Saturday Comes, or whatever that Sheffield United movie was called (it didn't come good)
  • I wonder if we are going down the 3-5-2 route in an attempt to get JBG more central and still keep two strikers ahead of him?
  • Any link to the Italian ice cream family? Back in the day Gelati Motta was excellent.

Since the business got taken over by Nestlé it's just become the usual everyday stuff. Sadly, they sell a Smartie-topped cornetto.

    What is wrong with Solly?!

    Roland has never rated him.
Which just proves how much Roland knows about football and footballers.... f*** all!
  • I've never heard of him or seen him play but I believe him to be useless

It takes time to find creative midfielders who are cheap enough and no one else wants.

Perhaps RD/KM need to realise that there is a reason why this is the case. Their view that you need to avoid traditional methods and avoid competing for the signing of players and managers is not perhaps unsurprisingly now being repeated by the team in the Championship. Perhaps we could move to a league that supports their alternative football paradigm!

I didn't see him for Watford but I used to watch him as a right midfielder and right back, solid at the back, a good reader of play and decent dribbler. He's intelligent, someone you could describe as 'accomplished'. He was definitely a Serie A quality player, hence his past clubs and so I'm pleasantly surprised. He would have been a great signing in August.

As someone with an informed opinion, you have no place in this thread

Looks a decent player at Championship level, strange that he has been unattached since the summer. Why sign him now, and not 1 or 2 months ago though?

36 U21 caps must be a record, and Italians generally know about defenders

looks like a decent player at Championship level? Then why has he not been signed up by one of the 23 clubs above us and been unattached since August? Perhaps the rest of the league are missing a trick by looking at his previous performances and deciding he ain't up to it. it's far too over-rated having a Director of football or Chief Scout making football decisions. just have a guess or find an ex-teammate to give you a reference. then make the signing....it worked with VazTe.
This for me is the problem with any new signing we make now. If a player comes to us with the club in the mess it's in, I'm immediately questioning what's wrong with him. No sane player with options would chose to come to Duchatelet's Charlton, so until there's a change of policy or a change of ownership we're only going to get high risk or sub-standard players that no-one else wants.

I sincerely hope that Motta can come in and play well at this level, and wish him well. It used to be a moment of optimism and wonder when we signed someone, but I really can't help but feel cynical and negative about every new signing that's made. Just one more way that Two Shats is sucking the fun out of football.

    No they don't.

Of course you may know my reasons for expressing my opinion better than I do. And there was me, foolishly assuming that I expressed displeasure because I am exasperated with the actions of the regime.

Personally, I think the recruitment "strategy", if there is one, is akin to a punch-drunk boxer grabbing out for any rope to hang on to....

Not sure, but I bet like most of the squad he will melt under pressure.
  • Bizarre signing, again - not had a Club since August, signed a RB already this week, Solly has had an injury free season, will be unfit, not eligible to play Saturday. Really, what is the point?
  • He will probably go on loan somewhere else next week anyway
  • He's been training with QPR for a while, but they decided not to sign him. Hopefully he's in decent shape for the exertions to get a contract there...
  • Or does RD not know his left from his right? Nothing would surprise me now..

More like his a*se from his elbow, Weegie...

***Note to self ...Ah , THAT'S where Colin has disappeared to !
Colin's head is so far up Rolys backside he must be able to see Katrien's shoes.
  • Not signed a keeper for a while, I'm quite dissapointed.

I suspect he or Solly will end up as left back - but maybe Solly's knees are causing him gip again. I don't think we need to lose any sleep over this one, although it might say something about Riga's view of the Fanni signing.

Think Fanni will be playing centre back.

Exactly what I said at the beginning of the week in the pre match thread.

With the squad we have now, it seems the most logical and balanced way to go. But this is Charlton so I doubt they would do that.

I think if Motta is near match fit, he would be a good signing, you don't play for Juventus, Udinese and Roma if you don't have something about you.

I've been wondering this as well. Left wing back would be a good position for Berdich, and Motta would slot in nicely on the other side (when fit). As the back three you'd have Texiera, then two from Solly, Lennon, Johnson, Sarr, and Bauer/Diarra when fit. Fox could also potentially slot in there. I think a back three would help the likes of Lennon, Fox, and Sarr as it takes some of the pressure off of them from being in a central defensive two.
