  • Really really really doing ourselves no favour shopping in Belgium, but it's what they know; so it's what they'll do. He should have kept SL if he wanted to merchant Belgian League players.

I'm sure Charlton will become a lot less attractive next season for them too, League One to them will seem way too low a level to move from top tier Belgium - we'll be shopping at Karel Fraeyes old team VW Hamme.

To be fair to them they've been doing quite well since they binned off Fraeye

For all those complaining at us always looking at Belgian players. The FIFA world rankings, by country: http://www.fifa.com/fifa-world-ranking/ranking-table/men/
England in 9th place. Not saying its the right thing for us to do - but they must be doing something right at the National level.

I'm sure there wouldnt be complaints if we go after the likes of Eden Hazard though... Instead we appear to go after players who are no where near the National Team
Yep - that's true enough. But you would hope that the approach trickles down through the divisional levels and the quality is generally pulled up a bit like in the UK....oh hang on a minute....

It could easily work yet foreign players coming to England need time... Despite Lepoint getting abuse on here, had he been given a bit longer to settle in this country, he could be doing for Charlton what he's doing in Belgium at the moment, the said players just need to stay off CharltonLife and ignore the comments from the stands.

Instead we appear to have owners who decide that if the said player hasn't settled immediately they're sent straight out of the club again, surely instead of throwing them out of the club either on a permanent deal, send them to League One on loan with a recall clause...

They then might create more Callum Harriott situations with the foreign players which'll give them more money in the long run

We're in a relegation fight. We can't afford to give players time to settle in or come back from injuries. We need players ready for The Championship.

To be fair, we've bought plenty of British and British based players in the past who've flopped as well, many who have gone on to have very decent careers. Simon Francis for one, but even McOxo a regular for Brentford in the Championship.

Not forgetting the big money flops of the Dowie/Pardew eras. Izale McLeod, Andy Gray and Luke Varney are all the sorts of British players that people on here would want RD to buy!

Your right buying players now is extremely risky because you do need them to settle now...

What doesnt make sense is someone like Christophe Lepoint, he signed in January last year and was given four months to settle... He's gone back to Belgium and has eight goals from Midfield this season.

I'm not saying that by keeping Lepoint this summer would be the answer to our troubles, but eight goals from anywhere on the pitch is something we're crying out for at the moment

He's also playing in an easier league.

It is difficult signing players in January, which is why Roland and Katrien should've got it right in the summer. They failed. Again.
He's also playing in a slightly slower league is probably a better way to describe it.

Many Footballers comment that they struggle to adapt to the English game because of how fast its played

No one in the MLS wanted me so will stay in England and haunt some other football club
  • Danny Graham signed on loan at Blackburn. Cue hattrick on debut.

I think Simon Church has scored more goals than him over the last 4 seasons
  • Lepoint was never gave a chance he was signed for Luzon and he sidnt want him. He must of had something about him if fans from his old club travel from Belgium to see him play for his new club

They only came for a day out on the p***.

And a row. They were right up for it. Giving it large to the Blackburn fans. Shame they didn't come to Millwall away....

  • QPR paid over 2m for Washington I believe. Can't see us paying that.

How can we calm down... You've put a rumour on a rumour thread

Since when did we CharltonLifers stick to a thread topic?

that for a proven goalscorer albeit in a lower division .. what with Austin going for a reported 4 million, although, once more, albeit near the end of his contract, these moves put the 'Lookman question' into some perspective .. If he moves, or is it WHEN he moves. the fee will probably be no more than 1 and a half to 2 million
  • So no rumours then.
