Horner already whinging to the stewards and gets politely told to fuck off
How on earth can Hamilton get away with going off the track like that and gaining such an advantage? None f the commentators seem to think he should have
Because Verstappen was more interested in pushing Hamilton off track than going for first position - Other drivers will manage a clean over take there
So you are only allowed to overtake at certain points and you are allowed to take short cuts?

No. You can’t force another driver off the track needlessly to gain an advantage. If you have track position, you can shut the door and force the other driver to brake or, if they choose, go off. Verstappen didn’t have track position at the apex, no matter what Whinger spice says. Hamilton was ahead, Verstappen overtook him on the apex and willfully shut the door forcing Hamilton off. I do agree that Hamilton got the benefit of the recent statements about encouraging fair driving and got lucky. But Verstappen only has himself to blame. Again.

Only question is the Hamilton advantage that he created.
Do the stewards have evidence of him slowing though

If he successfully overtook, why does the other driver not just slow down rather than take a short cut and gain an advantage over the driver who got past him?

Why should Hamilton when the other bloke hasnt gone for a clean pass yet instead has gone with the aim of pushing him off - Not to mention there was the risk that slowing down would have seen others past him.

The issue is Max had nothing to lose. If he gets past he probably wins, if he takes Lewis out he wins.
it’s a free hit for Max so Lewis did the only thing he could. Stay out of trouble by taking evasive action.

Can you 'successfully overtake' by forcing another driver off the track?

So the opportunities for overtaking seem rare
Not really if Verstappen was able to overtake Sainz cleanly.

Why didn't he do the same to Hamilton?
Because he was in the right situation at the time, which it seems wasn't the 'right' position. I'm sure any driver would overtake whenever they could, but it seems there are too few 'right' opportunities
