Back in the Brunswick for a cleansing ale after a tense last 30 minutes.
They had a lot of possession, particularly towards the end but I think we thoroughly deserved this point. The team was very well organised and we restricted Derby to very few chances. As a couple of Derby old timers remarked on the way out, "Charlton are a good football team - they made us play in front of them all the time."
On top of that, we carried a real threat on the break with Watt, Gudmundsson (who had a quiet game but two excellent efforts in the second half) and Makienok, who flicked on some excellent headers and whose pass put Tony Watt in space for the goal. When you have that menace as the away team, it makes a really big difference to the whole psychology of the game.
I thought that Diarra and Bauer were excellent and Nicky Pope was comfortable and confident throughout. A good show from Foxy, up against Ince, and Solly was tidy, although Derby troubled us a bit down that side.
Kashi was always available but not as dominant as last time out and Jordan was his usual highly energetic self.
All in all, a very satisfying afternoon and a great away trip. Well done to Guy Luzon and the boys.

A great overall performance against a top side. Derby were all up for it and we frustrated the players which kept the fans fairly quiet. To be able to sing 'is this a library' with 28,000 home fans is says a lot about how our team worked very hard to nullify their breaks and runs that were relentless at times. My impression is of a defensive display, which could have been a smash and grab. We scored one and could have had possibly another, but Derby are quality and we've had so many tough trips here and gone away feeling that we've been taught a footballing lesson. As we created little in their goal area, i'd say the standout players for us were Pope (looked very confident and some really great saves, so could become our number one in future), Bauer (big & strong but also put himself in the right place often), Diarra (was always available to receive the ball and clear out) and Makienok (does as much in defence, if not more than he does in forward line, but is all over the pitch. He must cover some ground during the game). Watt (is just a menace to defenders and is a great character to have in the team).
Derby are definately in the top 3-4 sides in this league and to go there and compete, shows Guy is doing the right thing on and off the pitch. I feel a unity in the team is returning, something that was so important during the promotion campaign. The way the players came over at the end showed me they appreciated the support and also recognised that this point as Derby, was very much a point 'won'. Yes and if you add Big Mak and Morgan Fox who can both head the ball from defending a corner we do seem better. Just need Patrick and Simon to get on the end of the ball when we have corners.

Yep played well, defended brilliantly. And Watt was outstanding. Makienok brings so much to the side defensively. A little short on numbers there I felt but those that were there were in great voice.
It's all been written .. a hard won point against an expensively assembled side in front of a big crowd on nice sunny afternoon .. the possible weak links, Pope and Fox are massively improved from last term .. the team is tenacious, well organised, very powerful in the air and with a skilful front man in Watt .. BUT .. we need a bit more guile and craft in midfield .. watch out Forest, CAFC is on F I R E ((:>)

Jordan has a massive influence defensively which is sometimes overlooked because of his other attributes.
I thought Jordan Cousins made a couple of absolutely brilliant defence splitting passes yesterday, I'm still reeling from the block that Jacko made, when he took one for the team, Bauer what a panzer!
One eyed view from you as usual, most of those shots were long range mainly blocked good defending, most of the possession was in front of them and they kept us at arms length, they could have scored right at the start, for half an hour we were on top and they were no threat Thorne was running the game for a time, towards the end of the first half they started to use the ball better and from that had the best chance of the first-half.
Second-half they had the deflected goal, had a great chance for 2-0 and posed no end of problems on the counter, we could have sneaked it after a strong last 15 but throughout the game on good chances and real attacking threat it was pretty even, first-half I thought the way it was going the way we were getting the ball back quickly we would end with a comfortable win, after that I thought they played well counter attack from half an hour in and defending, a good away performance that merited a point from them.
If you want balance and realism I think my analysis would offer more, not that I am over critical of our performance first 2 games, both opponents have played well probably above what they will do over the season, we haven't played badly just not quite well enough to overcome them.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure you were at the iPro watching the same game yesterday.
I thought they were extremely lucky to get a point. They were practically time wasting from the kick off. They came for a draw and seemed as shocked as we were that they'd scored a goal.
They seemed bereft of ideas on how to break us down in either half, and more often than not resorted to a long hopeful punt down field.
Balance would require you to admit they were largely spectators. Had we played as they had played, we'd be berating the performance as poor, and extremely lucky "we had to clear it off the line and rely on last minute desperate blocks".
We won't play like that and not walk away with the win on many other occasions. We were not perfect, but we were at least twice as good as them.

Have just watched the extended highlights on CAFC player. Having seen Makienok at the West Ham friendly and also against QPR, I think he may end up netting around 10 this season and making/saving a lot more.
His shot which could have taken us 0-2 up against Derby was the shot of a striker without much game time or goal confidence. I think after he gets the first one or two, he will quickly add some more. I rate him as an addition and if we can get ventokele back fit, we have a good range of options in attack.
Feeling up about our prospects this time out right now, would love to have a good result against forest and then see us perform and do well against a very good hull side at home.
The average age of our first eleven yesterday was just 23.8 with Diarra (34) being the only player over the age of 26 - Kashi is still three months away from his 27th birthday. The next three: Makienok, Gudmundsson and Solly are still months away from turning 25 while Cousins, Fox and Watt are yet to reach their 22nd birthday.
Anyone else thinks this bodes very well for the future?

Remember a few years ago when Suarez made a bad start to a season and couldn't score for trying. All the pundits were saying he wasn't a natural goalscorer, etc. Much as I detest him, even at the time I thought the criticism was very wrong.
I wanted GL to bring Big Mak on as a sub against the Daggers to give him an easier chance to get on the scoresheet, but he went for Reza instead - maybe on orders to give him the chance to bump up his own transfer value before the window closes.

Defended resolutely, even if we did ride our luck on a few occasions.
Makienok was brilliant defending corners for us, and Kashi is one of the best defensive midfielders we've had in years.
Would have gone with Bergdich over Ceballos, who was quite frankly awful.
Tony Watt looked threatening, but I'm also a bit concerned about where the goals are going to come from outside of him and JBG.
Derby look strong - genuinely think Richard Keogh is the best defender in the division. He can do it all.
