Wigan Bid For Callum Harriott

  • Apart from playing a few matches out of position as a supplementary striker, he often played with a naive Fox who never made any attempt to overlap and ensured that Callum was doubled up against a winger and FB. Did those slagging him off actually watch his appearances? Who was LB when he scored his end of season goals?
  • Still don't understand why we haven't tried to get him game time at a League One club, especially towards the back end of last season when he wasn't likely to feature much for us.
  • He's always been most entertaining to watch when hugging the left touch line and given the ball to his feet and allowed to run at the opposing right back. His "footballing brain" always looked good in that scenario to me.

When on form and in that position he's a bit like a smaller Antonio.

I guess ultimately he is perhaps more one dimensional than Bulot. But he is talented, from what I've seen. Wish him well.
  • A bit like young Kevin Lisbie. Been at Charlton a fair while. Divides opinion. But at the end of the day, only had 2 good games v Watford & Blackpool. (Lisbie had one v Liverpool).

Think that's a bit unfair, regarding Lisbie. Liked the side netting and Liverpool was his peak but I'm sure he had more than one good game.
Name the others then ?

  • Good luck Callum!! Yes some on here damming him!! He scored some of the goals that kept us up in the Riga era!! Riga got best out of Harriott just goes to show that when people have confidence in you you can be very good! Negatively is not the answer
  • If he goes good luck to him.

Personally I find him a very frustrating player who is probably not good enough for Championship level, L1 I think he'll do well.

  • I like Callum, he has great potential and definitely in favour of keeping him, clearly a confidence player and I have a suspicion if he did go somewhere else it would work out and we would be questioning why we didn't keep him.

Really can't imagine a young London lad (STILL JUST 21 FGS!!!!) like him, with a young family wanting to move to Wigan in a million years.
  • He has been dreadful apart from 2 games last season, unprofessional attitude too
  • Callum is a lovely lad and I wish him well if this transfer comes off. He's got bags of talent but is inconsistent. He needs a manager who can build his confidence and that will only happen if he's playing regularly.
  • Is crazy... people were moaning that Poyet left us in the way he did when in truth I now cant blame Poyet, if this is how fans act when we decide to sell a player I wouldnt want to be at the club!!
  • got nothing against him (but personally I don't think his twitter name has ever done him any favours)......but from a footballing perspective he's not a championship player in my opinion and shouldn't be anywhere near our starting 11 if we have serious aspirations of play offs etc.

best of luck Callum if you go

  • He's only 21 and might yet make it in the game with time and the right management... but when you compare his performances to the likes of Bulot and JBG then he's quite clearly nowhere near that good anything like consistently enough, and that's a shame. Yes, they're both older and more experienced but even on a poor day they tend to keep trying and pushing when Harriott's still got an unfortunate tendency to let his head drop if things go wrong and it becomes a self-perpetuating cycle of confidence/performance issues.

I think perhaps a move might reinvigorate him and perhaps he needs to move on and find a fresh start for his own good. That said, I am not sure Wigan is the place for that!
  • Haters gonna hate

Calum has a huge amount of talent as a footballer, I would say out of all our youngsters he was the one who should have gone on to great things , fans at cafc love a winger love players that could do what Harriot could play like ,

Harriot is wasting his talent it can only be an issue of mental strength, and unfortunately with players like Harriot this is all to often the case
  • Cant see why CH is getting so much abuse. What has he done to deserve people who dont know him to say he is a dick or has an ego?

In regards to football yes he has not really kicked on but I bet the same people who are digging him out are the ones that where creaming themselves over him when he come on the scene at the end of the first championship season.
  • Maybe if he had put that chance in against Brentford his season would have followed on from

It's crazy - a Charlton player is the subject of a rumoured bid, and loads of you then slag him off!!!! He isn't walking away and sticking two fingers up; he's one of our own, and if he goes and we get a fee for him, then great

This is the thing... We've rejected a bid for him which might mean that Wigan will go looking at other players and that no other club will put in an offer, that means he'd be staying at the Valley and am sure his confidence is great at the moment if he's seen the twitter comments.

Oh and as mentioned before... His best mate is Jordan Cousins (someone we all want to see sfay), hows he going to feel about staying if his mate is being slagged off by the fans of the team that he plays for, because of that attitude he may choose to sod off too!!
  • Agreed the player has talent, but is inconsistent, and I fear he does like to play the 'clown'...... nothing wrong with that as you say the guy is 21. Although acting like this does make you think he is an attention seeker. I feel that on balance he has had his opportunity, and should move on.
  • He's a young winger, of course he's inconsistent. How much of a chance did he get last season? He's got the talent and he can shoot and score goals. Hang onto him, he'll soon find the required consistency.
  • I like Callum. Besides what's been said about his character (and he seemed very friendly at POTY), he's often been played out of position and was vital in keeping us in the Championship not long ago.

I'd actually keep him but can understand why he'd want to move, and why some fans think we can do better. To celebrate his leaving though is poor form.
