  • Is Buyens one booking away from a ban?

Already banned for next 2 games after his yellow against wigan
Is that definitely the case, as I've seen nothing announced formally. As one of the bookings (vs Blackburn) was followed by a second yellow, and hence a red, does the first booking count as one of the 10?

Had been suggestions he was but fact he got two yellows v Blackburn in the cup means subsequent red leaves him on nine cautions. #cafc

Great so he can play tomorrow, and Alou can replace him in the team on Saturday once his inevitable ban starts.

Many a true word spoken in jest. The stats tell their own story, tackling is an art and Buyens struggles with it more often or not, getting it clumsily wrong and gets booked. JJ has an excuse with his timing these days Buyens doesn't IMO.
  • Just got this from a WH supporting mate.

Alou Diarra - interesting one. I actually quite rated him as a player; you don't captain the French national team if you're some mug!

However, something was amiss because he got very little game time. Reliable sources say it was because of a falling out with Allardyce. Apparently he lured Diarra to the club with promise of building the midfield around him.

It didn't work out like that as with Diame and Noble playing very well in the centre, as well as Nolan having to be accommodated, he probably didn't get a fair crack in his favoured position - even occasionally being played at centre back.

    So the jury is out.

I think he's definitely a great signing for you boys - if you can keep him motivated I think you'll love him!

    You can call me Al!

  • I've been alone with you
    Inside my mind
And in my dreams I've kissed your lips
    A thousand times
    I sometimes see you
    Pass outside my door
    Alou!
Is it me you're looking for?
I can see it in your eyes
I can see it in your smile
    You're all I've ever wanted
And my arms are open wide
'cause you know just what to say
And you know just what to do
And I want to tell you so much
    I love you

I long to see the sunlight in your hair
And tell you time and time again
    How much I care
Sometimes I feel my heart will overflow
    Alou!
I've just got to let you know
'cause I wonder where you are
And I wonder what you do
    Are you somewhere feeling lonely?
    Or is someone loving you?
Tell me how to win your heart
    For I haven't got a clue
But let me start by saying I love you

Positive that off the back of 2 wins we are reinforcing. RD is def keeping the spend in check though considering Johnson, Eagles & Diarra are all frees

A free often means a hefty signing-on fee.

  • Blimey. I am of the generation that got very excited when Cyril Davies won his only cap for Wales as there wasnt a whole lot else to get excited about! Now we get former captains of France...

we have quite a lot of players now who have played very little 1st team football in the last year. Watt, Johnson, Diarra,Eagles and Bulot to name just five
But all five if on their game could be great additions to the team.

Alou Diarra has spent long periods at top clubs(and west ham) without playing so
my main fear would be that he would be rusty, as the Championship is unrelenting if not match fit.

Good signing in my humble opinion. I wonder what he's wages are?

I don't think footballers get a wage anymore, it's more likely a salary.

No, it doesn't. The same happened with Bowyer against the scum in the snow.

Eagles was a regular for Blackpool, Bulot had a good run at the African Nations. Watt is definitely getting up to speed now, while we've kept 2 clean sheets since Johnson came in, and he looks in much better nick than Bikey say...

Diarra might be rusty, Lepoint was very rusty...
  • A good signing this. I know he's 33 but age is not so much a factor with a defensive midfielder, much the same as for a CB. Could work out well for us.

Richard Cawley said he's travelled with the squad to Derby.

    have they left already?

All of a sudden, the squad seems to have much better depth and quality, with real competition in midfield. Sill feel we are short in the striking department and would still like us to bring in a proper target man. Watt and Igor look great together but it is telling that we haven't had a recognised striker on the bench in the last couple of games.

Welcome Alou. Must surely be given the nickname "Bombay"?

Oiiiiiii, that was mine das ago!

That'll teach me to read every single word on every thread then!

Congrats on having a quite brilliant sense of humour.

That's a very impressive signing. Yes he's getting on a bit but with JJ out and the spurs kid crocked, Diarra's a great short term option.
If only these signings were made a little earlier, we might well have had a bash at a play off place.
  • We could just go with a repeated rendition of Alou Diarra, Alou Diarra,Alou Diarra, you know the rest.

It has been said that Luzon only takes the 18 players involved in the game, so he must be involved tomorrow

Eagles had only played 7 times for Blackpool, and wasn't in Bolton's team in the second half of last season but is a proven championship player so could well be a astute signing.
Ro Jo want's a new nickname (Not relegation Roger !) so will give 100%, as proven by playing with broken rib.(no 1st team game in last year)
Tony Watt won the crowd over within 5 seconds of 1st game. (few 1st team games)
Bulot few games in best position, Left wing.
Diarra And Lepoint, we live in hope that they can turn the clock back ?
    Not just 1 hour.

  • To Lionel Ritchie's classic.

Alou... It was Zidane we were looking for
  • Interesting that we're making short term free agent signings, while everybody else are taking in loans.

Definitely seems like a deliberate strategy.

  • Fantastic news. Diarra, Eagles, Watt, Johnson, in addition to the better of the summer signings, this is starting to be a good-looking team, only a shame it is too late for the playoffs. presumably if he does well Diarra wil be off to one of the French-speaking teams in the n*******k. But if he helps us win a few games and make a decent showing by the end of the season, welcome.

Big lad at 6'3". Guess this means Lepoint is seen more as a forward option. Good experience for the sqaud too at 33. Perhaps Guy doesnt fancy Buyens too much in his 4-4-2 system? Hopefully to play WITH Cousins not instead of. Welcome Alou.

Not sure Lepoint is seen as any kind of option

I have only seen the few minutes he played for us and he set up a goal. I assume you have seen him play a bit given your comments. Could you elaborate on his shortcomings and against what sort of opposition. What are his good points and strengths.

    Thanks.

I think you have got him there. It has always amazed me how quickly we form an opinion, on little or no evidence. Give him a chance.
