Tell you what, I think Cousins could learn a massive amount from having Diarra alongside him for 18 months or so (if this season works out ok). Even in training, it is a great chance to work alongside a defensive midfielder who played in over half of the 2006 World Cup Final.
Already banned for next 2 games after his yellow against wigan
Is that definitely the case, as I've seen nothing announced formally. As one of the bookings (vs Blackburn) was followed by a second yellow, and hence a red, does the first booking count as one of the 10?
Has to get match fit first, and then adapt to the intensity and tempo of the Championship. He has proven himself in Ligue 1 during his prime years didn't break though at Bayern/Liverpool or West Ham so lets see.
He is a natural defensive midfielder much more so then Buyens, Lepoint, Jackson, Cousins.. so adds balance, we have players that might win the ball on occasions but don't have the ability to keep it or recycle possession also our midfield are very weak in aerial battles. I think Diarra is a possible answer to these problems being a pivot a anchor man of our midfield.
Good signing for the rest of season, this sort of quality on long term contracts and Roly may be changing his philosophy a wee bit which would be great news. Not the loans biggest of fans, but due to our lack of strength of depth (we're 2 injuries in certain positions away from being back to a really poor side IMO) this is very welcomed, in a crucial position too.
All of a sudden, the squad seems to have much better depth and quality, with real competition in midfield. Sill feel we are short in the striking department and would still like us to bring in a proper target man. Watt and Igor look great together but it is telling that we haven't had a recognised striker on the bench in the last couple of games.
Welcome Alou. Must surely be given the nickname "Bombay"?
An aging (33 years old) tall defensive midfielder with little experience of playing in English football but with a lot of French experience and a winner of many French international caps ... Welcome Alou ... It will be VERY interesting to see Luzon's plans for Diarra; a defined role in the first choice eleven, or a squad member/bench man who comes on to beef up the defence if we're 1-0 up with 10 minutes to go.
Surely I'm not the only one who thought of Lassana Diarra, now that would be a good signing. On the fence on this one, could be good for us at this level but having played very, very little in the past few years you never know how it'll work out.
I don't know what to make of this one to be honest. 34 years old in a few months and injury prone, only played 18 games in the past 3 seasons.
BUT...
Considerable top level experience and 44 international caps for France. Has been training with club so they've had a look already. Only till summer so we haven't got an Amdy Faye on our books for the next couple of years, yet will we actually see him play or is he going to be this season's Florent Rouamba ?

Had been suggestions he was but fact he got two yellows v Blackburn in the cup means subsequent red leaves him on nine cautions. #cafc

Welcome and good luck.
It does make a mockery of some who kept telling us how wonderful it was having a tiny squad and the youngest squad in the division.
Suddenly we have a lot of options in the middle.
Even Eagles can play there in a more attacking role.
Muldoon and Munns too.
He's prob-ly on our bench
Diarra, Diarra
