November 2014 Richard Cawley @RichCawleySLP Chris Eagles signs for Blackpool. Wasn't long ago he was turning down Charlton because they weren't a big enough club....
He did turn us down. We wanted to pay him less than he wanted, now after realising his real level at Blackpool he's took what he can get.
What happens at the end of the season when everyone's contracts are up again? Do we build yet another squad each summer? Not really long-term planning from Roland is it. Good signing.

So we've been in for him twice?
Is Cawley the only source for the 'weren't a big enough club' rumour?
The 29-year-old been registered in time to be considered for selection in Friday evening’s game against Wigan Athletic (7.45pm) and will wear the number nine shirt at The Valley.
Good signing. We have needed a creative attacking midfielder who can also play wide - and now we've got one. The past doesn't really matter, people make choices all the time based on the circumstances pertaining at the time.

He still only possibly turned us down, dont ever remember him actually saying it (i.e. Journalists do get it wrong as Louis Mendez has today tweeted a comment from the Telegraph saying that this time last year Powell was set to be given a new Contract from RD).
Either way if he did turn us down I'd rather him come out and say that his move to us last year was blocked rather than him saying: I didnt want to be here last year, dont want to be here this year either but Charlton were the only club to show interest so had no choice.

Rewind back through my posts I was one of the first to know about us being interested in him, and I heard the exact same that we weren't a big enough club/wage related. Make of it what you will.

Is called tact
Powell had agreed a new contract with RD. He was sacked because they couldn't agree over 'footballing strategy.'

I do agree.
And it's all in the wording r.e. your Journalists comment. Being set for something can mean a whole host of things, because Powell did sit down with RD to discuss contracts, which in my opinion was a non entity from the start but they still did sit down to discuss the matters.

Some people are never happy! haha
Fair point though I think. To be clear, I'm happy with the signing. I'm not happy with RD and KM telling us they have a long-term strategy but then contradict that by signing players on short-term contracts and player turnover in the last 14 months.
Last year I'd have said excellent signing and I think he'll be dangerous.
A year on I'm not so sure. There must be reasons he's been let go by two clubs in under a year.
If nothing else, it's good to have depth (and experience) in a creative, attacking position and I'm willing to give him minutes on the pitch to prove his worth. Welcome Chris, hope you prove my doubts ill-founded.

I thought it was reported he turned us down.

“I’ve had a great feeling about being here, it’s a massive club.
“I’m over the moon to be here and as soon as I knew they wanted to sign me it didn’t matter what they offered me I just wanted to be here.”
