Chris Eagles - Signed For Rest of Season (pg 12, wants to stay)

  • Regarding this "reluctance to sign", Sue Parkes on FB has the following to say "Who said he turned us down in the summer? Don't believe everything you read."

She may or may not know what is reported in the papers but, sometimes, players don't move to a club for a whole host of reasons especially if he doesn't want to uproot his family. In Eagles case, he has been playing for the last seven years for Burnley, Bolton and Blackpool and probably wanted to stay in that area if he could hence the move to Blackpool.

Also, for what it's worth, Eagles also received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bolton for his services to sport and local charities.

I've seen players with worse on and off the field achievements and probably could name a dozen from the last couple of years.
  • I was told that Sordell recommended him when Bolton were releasing him and he trained with us. However it then transpired that his wage expectations were well above what we had in mind as he was on around £30 k a week at Bolton.

Well one thing's for certain. Blackpool wouldn't be paying him anything like £30K a week. That said, Lee Clark has said that he needs to release his wages for other players and Blackpool's case that might amount to about £500 a week.
  • Doubt if he was on much money at Blackpool, what he'll be asking for now will be much lower than in the summer. As for Dougie Freedman's criticism of his senior players in the press, not sure I'd trust his judgement when he chased the money at Bolton after Palace afforded hima great opportunity he wouldn't have got elsewhere.
  • The squad is still way too thin, thanks to the stupid network policy. We still need another attacking midfielder and a forward, as we have done for the past year. If Jackson is injured for Friday, our centre midfield will have to include either an uninterested Buyens or a comedyuntested lepoint. If either of our strikers are inhjured we have only Church and KAG. The underinvestment in the team due to the network policy is the biggest issue I have with RD.

  • Wouldn't say no as long as wages were realistic!

I wouldn't mind betting that, with RD at the helm, the wages for any player we sign will not be unrealistic.

    Tony Fernandes he ain't.
  • Be good backup in place of either Gudmundsson or Bulot as apart from Harriott and Wilson we are weak out wide

Oh FFS it's having no hope blundering half-wits like Calamity and Wilson that makes us weak out wide, neither can cross with any consistent quality rendering them useless as wide midfielders.

Reckon he'll have to lower his wage demands a tad!

Boxxxxks if we was not good enough last year. Why are we better this year.if he can't even get a game at Blackpool what makes him think he good enough for the mighty charlton. He a shaun Wright philps in disguise. Bench warming money grabbing tax avoiding scrounger .fxxkoff off back up north. We want people who want to play for the shirt who will try and give 100% .

Didnt we all think the same of Roger Johnson a few weeks ago...
Not all of us mate but I know where you are coming from . We are thin on the ground with JJ, Wiggy and Ro Jo all injured experienced players Saturday so he'll be a welcomed addition for me.
  • I was wrong about Ro Jo, could be wrong about Cheag. As long as he puts a shift in he'll probably improve us

    Where indeed......?

I think Ig Ve and To Wa up front make a great pairing.

I think playing Jo Co and Jo Ja inmidfield works too

But Mo Fo at left back is a no no.
Don't start on Mo Fo again you ended up taking a self imposed exile after the last episode  .

Apparently Alou Diarra is also on trial with us. 33 yo midfielder currently without a club.

AlDi? Let's hope he doesn't get trollied, still Ro Jo can check him out and give him best advice on steering clear of the demon drink.

Didn't he get a hat trick at the Valley for Man U in the FA youth cup or am I dreaming that?

I don't know about a hat-trick, but he certainly was outstanding in that game against Man Utd. Hasn't totally fulfilled his potential, but would be a good addition to the squad.

I don't think so. He played in both rounds when they beat us 3-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals, 2003. But Kieran Richardson scored in both legs for them and Eddie Johnson got their other one. Karl Beckford scored ours (a penalty).

Passes the height test 6ft 3in 44 full caps for France but obviously seen better days

Will he be known as Bombay?
  • If Ro Jo get his Mo Jo back we quids in. (free transfer)

Chris eagles only 29, so could still do the business.

He would definitely improve the squad, good signing if we get him
  • So , has the eagle landed yet?
  • Richard Cawley just tweeted that he's signing & will be in tomorrow's squad

Chris Eagles is signing for #cafc. Should be in squad for tomorrow's game at Wigan.
