  • The fact he can play in many positions is hindering his development. A bit like a Phill Neville, Mr dependable and such a team player picks up slack in other positions for the good of the team never nailling one position for his own. A decent run played a settled position in a settled team would do him wonders. Shame as can't see that happening anytime soon!!

Stand by my opinion that I don't really know what he offers the team apart from pure running. First touch is weak, gives the ball away a lot and isn't as physical as some make out.

His full debut against Forest a couple of seasons ago he looked incredible, but thats the best game I've seen him have for us.

And no I didn't slag off the likes of Dale Stephens - who is by far a better player.

The Forest game I was on about was last season. It was a Tuesday night game at the Valley.

I think JCs debut was away at Barnsley in CPs last season?? He scored a goal too in that game.

I think Jordan Cousins came on as a sub in that Barnsley game, but his full debut was the Forest match shortly after.
Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong on that though.
  • Probably right mate.

I just think JC has stuck by Charlton in a difficult period and think he could be a very good player and worry he will leave and then turn out to be another cracking player that got away.

    I guess time will tell.
  • Been as bad as everyone else. I don't think he will win the youth graduate player of the year this time. Got Lookman's name on it already.

Personally I expect him to stick around for a bit, especially as he's under contract. He's a decent player, and I'm happy to have him in the team, but he doesn't have the same potential that the likes of Gomez, Poyet, Jenkinson had. I can't see anybody in the PL being particularly interested in him, the likes of Lookman and THD will probably attract more interest.
  • Cousins is a players' player.

Those within the game undoubtedly appreciate his talents even if some fans do not.
  • With no Fox,Pope,Sarr,Berditch and Big Mak starting yesterday,
i was wondering who would be the fall guy on Saturday ?

You can always rely on Charlton fans folk to find someone.
Cousins would be great with a ball playing midfielder alongside him.

yesterday he had an on off game. I still think he has more to give though.

he like others in the last 15min were having a nightmare clearing the ball but then unlike the others he picks it up in the full back position and goes on a run past a few players but then he gets cynically brought down just as he was about to feed lookman who was through on goal.

his touch lets him down at times which is a shame but he's a proper professional who gives it his all every minute of every game.

  • Not easy for a young player to play under so many managers, even though every one has been a success.

Actually preferred him out wide, as his touch is shit for a Central midfielder and he loses the ball far too often because of it. He also gets forward more when played out wide and therefore has more chances to shoot. If all fit and available for selection the midfield 3 for me would be Jackson, Kashi and Diarra

I genuinely didn't think he was that bad playing left midfield, or "wasted" out there. Yes he cut inside all the time, but these days a lot of teams have inverse wingers playing on the wrong side, and he posed much more of a goal threat when he played there.

He also gave good protection to the LB.
  • Not really sure his best position. May do well as a defender. In midfield not sure if a holding player. But he does not seem a creative midfielder.
He has skill but needs a good coach to create the best from him.
  • Yes looks like can't get a start at MK Dons. Tell me how many goals has he scored. How many assists. Let's face it Poyets brought his career to a abrupt stop. Like I said I would pick Jordan above him everyday.

As mentioned if you attended the back end of the 13/14 campaign you'd know, he was our best player and I believe if it weren't for him we'd be in League One as we debate. I'd swap him for Cousins any day of the week he's a proper holding midfield player, tell me what type of midfield player is Cousins?
  • On Cousins or Poyet it depends on who they're playing alongside. Cousins is quicker, more energetic and can either sit back or play a more box to box role. He's more of an all rounder, he can also do a job out wide or at full back.

Poyet is better on the ball but I can't see him playing in a more attacking role or being as comfortable in a wide position. He's not there to get goals or assists, he did a good job for us sitting back, intercepting, tacking and keeping possession, which is what you want in his position.

Diego Poyet is a Defensive Midfielder whilst Jordan Cousins is a Box to Box Midfielder, that doesn't mean he's the creative type in the slightest, just means that'll put in the Defensive duties yet will try to get into the box too (Erm... Kinda like Fulham) its like comparing Lookman and Makienok as the same type of Striker.
  • @ForeverAddickted I get that but you can still highlight which one is a better player and who you'd prefer in the team.

And I'd say Cousins is box to box because he contributes at neither end, as a pose to both.

I'd have both as you need that balance. (i.e. see my last post on the Kashi thread)

In an ideal center midfield at this level you'd have a Poyet and an Andy Reid, energy in the middle is pointless without ability.
  • BR7 hope I never have to sit next to you at a match. I bet you just slag all our players off all game. Give lookman another 6 games if he ain't scored you can start booing him and shout get harriot back so you can say his crap.

Are you Jordan's old man? Why's it upset you so much? I don't rate the lad surely this forum is the place to state that, FYI I've never slagged off any of our players when I'm home or away, I'm always vocal but never slag the players off. Keep your pants on.
  • You don't slag off our players but Jordan's not good enough for championship.yet Poyet had two loan spells to Huddersfield and Mk and can only make bench.you ought to be a judge on exfactor or something. His the closest thing we've had to Scott Parker. Or was he not championship quality. Jordan will play in the premiership mate I am sure.

Cousins comparison to Parker, go home kid you're drunk.

He's not comparing him to Scott Parker...

Name a better Box2Box Midfielder who has come through the Youth Team since Scott Parker was the question?

I can't see this personally - I think we sometimes get a bit ahead of ourselves when one of our own breaks through from the youth into the first team. Technically not good enough for the Prem and although I think he has performed well overall in a Charlton shirt to date, he's a championship player
  • See my point further back, Cousins contributes nothing at either box.
  • See my point further back, Cousins contributes nothing at either box.

    How...?

He's played at Right-Back this season against Hull City, means that he had to do a lot of Defensive work in his own box... He's scored a cracking goal against Wigan in the past, and won us a point against Fulham this season which was in the opposition box.

  • @ForeverAddickted I rate him at right back mate go back on this thread you'll see that. CM he offers nothing at either end, love his endeavor but no ability.

@Showmetheway2gohome think you mean *you're, and you're embarrassing yourself mentioning prem and Cousins in the same post.
  • An interesting thread. Cousins is still a kid yet he is now a hardened veteran in the Charlton side. He has become the engine room (and as he is alongside Jackson who understandably tires in the last 30) has to run the hard yards every game. No question about his fitness levels but perhaps his development as an all round player has suffered. When he first broke into the first team what struck me most was his maturity and the ability to appear to have time on the ball. That ability seems to have been diminished by his need to cover miles of pitch every game. The result is poor distribution and risky tackles. In a club with a decent sized squad a rest might be the answer but no chance at Charlton. Christmas programme is looming and the engine will just have to keep running till he drops.
  • So we need to buy another player in order to make Cousins effective?

Good players make that impact with their own ability more often than not. Until Cousins starts doing that he will be the epitome of plain average.
