Not a bad player. Decent back up for the main two and could come in for Bikey who has been out of sorts. Also has the Football League experience many have been after. I've also heard that he's a tool but there's only so much control we can exert over a signing and all in all it could be a lot worse.
We;re screwed.....we need a target man up front....good god RD has seriously lost the plot.....for the love of our club please sell up and go.....PLEASE!!!

Still not a striker though
Assuming he's match fit (a BIG if), I'd rather him in the team than Bikey at the moment certainly
There was a time when character played a big part in those that were chosen to wear the shirt. Now that no one is around that understands the kinds of characters this Club needs, who decides how the team personalities will come together, if this is even considered. And should it be considered? I think so, but this network doesn't seem to have a spreadsheet entry that tracks character. Are we seeing the fallout from this, or is the way of Curbishely and Powell quaint and outdated?
Anyway, why do we need a defender? Is someone (TBH) going out?
Why, Katrien Meire, of course. here is what she said in the Trust News interview back in August:
“When I came here I noticed the type of players that are here. They are nice guys, and I try to think about that – sometimes a player is suggested, and he might be good, but if he’s too extravagant, it won’t work here, and it might upset the dressing room, so we need to be careful about that and you want the fans also to identify with the players. I don’t think Mario Balotelli would work here.” “So that’s why we didn’t bid for him?” I suggest, resulting in much laughter. Katrien continues, “Until now the fans might be critical that Charlton will lose their identity because we bring in foreign players but you cannot forget that some foreign players represent those values as well. The owner has the same kind of values. He also wants good characters.”
Three mercenary centre-backs at the club, having let one go who was committed to the cause and is now playing very well at Birmingham. Anyone who disagrees, look at how Johnson poisoned the atmosphere at Wolves after joining and dragged people into it with him. Bikey's recent performances have been all about him and it's been rumoured about his attitude on here, and while Ben Haim has played reasonably well, I always have held something back after he held Portsmouth to ransom when they really needed him off the wage books just to survive as a football club.
Rumoured to be signing tomorrow. Wolves cancelled contract today.
Thoughts ?
Absurd. We've got 3 experienced CBs are have been lacking a target man and creative midfielder all season. Can't see the point of this signing and can only think we haven't covered the positions we need to because we have been unable to - in other words because the management of the club have been incompetent.
And does not want to pay the going rate for anyone decent. The only conclusion that you can bring from Duchatelet's crazy running of Charlton is that he wants the club to be relegated.
The kind of signing Pardew would have made and the exact opposite to the type of player Curbs would have looked at. On that basis alone, I'm not keen.
If it was to add depth to a well functioning team on the edge of the pay-offs I might be okay with it, but adding another potentially difficult character to an already dysfunctional squad in a relegation battle and in a position where we already have 3 senior pros, one talented youngster and further cover from the Spurs loanee (sorry I haven't learnt to spell his name yet)? Can't see logic in this one I'm afraid.
If this is true it makes the Morrison departure even more of a head scratcher. It appears that the people at the club not only have no idea of the calibre of player we need, but they don't even understand in which positions we need said players. Johnson may fit the bill in terms of quality at this level (though as stated he does have character issues), but why are we even looking at another CB?

Sorry don't agree (about the character stuff, agree about questioning why another defender). Putting on rose tinted glasses and looking back in awe at a time gone by trying to pretend that the past was all rosey, everyone got on well with each other, that this club was never in any trouble and that players played with passion, heart, 110% commitment or any other football cliche.
Things have changed. Many don't like it, most don't agree with the way things are run. That's fine and it's right to debate an air opinions but let's not try and pretend everything was perfect in the past. It wasn't.
I'm a little uncomfortable with things at the present but I still have hope, partly based on the fact that it isn't in RD 's interests to see this club fall, he is a business man after all and he will want us to be as profitable as possible and to do that it will be making us more valuable to a potential buyer and/or getting to the PL.
My interest and enthusiasm is waning, but after a few weeks to think on things I think a big chunk of it is down to fellow Charlton fans. Everyone is ready to scream doom and gloom, booing the team, the management and owner at any possibility. Giving no one any time and making up their minds on new players or staff before they have even kicked a ball or given an instruction. To be honest it has just worn me down.
When I started typing this I didn't intend it to be a long rant and it isn't aimed at you specifically but I guess your post just prompted me to post something I'd been meaning to for a few days.

Bertie big balls - awful attitude. Hopefully his wilderness times has made him a bit more humble and appreciative

Johnnson last good game was when he played alongside Scott Dann at Brum,
in 2010.
He is such a good pro that he was sent home from training in march 2011 because he was under the influence of alcohol.
He admited that he stayed at Wolves for the Money, even thou he was never going to get a game.
I was told this was on Jacqui Oakley's twitter a couple of hours ago.
"When Cheddar Evans comes" - well, we'd have to disguise it a little.
